As a sci-fi and movie buff I appreciate Charlton Heston's work on POTA. Before this movie you had a lot of films where a western or history drama had more production value or story lines than the 'Get them out by Thursday' adventures. Looking back, studios were getting into risks that could have been a Universal death nail for this kind of genre. The 'Tim Burton' remake was enjoyable, but the performances and executions had a 'high water' mark to follow... this isn't easy work.
@shakeyphil Actually Planet of the Apes was released in 1968 and the star trek series was somewhat obscure and did not do well in its original release on television. Mr Heston was speaking in regards to popularity of the Apes series at the time as opposed to the popularity of star trek in the late 1960s. And FOR YOUR INFORMATION the Personal Freedom you enjoy is GUARANTEED by the Right to Bear Arms as in OWNING GUNS. nazism is liberal facism which seeks to destroy YOUR RIGHTS!

If only Mr. Heston hadn't resisted efforts to recruit him into the presidential race years ago, after Reagan had already demonstrated that an actor could win... He could have begun by running for the California Senate or House...
May the Omega Man rest in peace.
A must-see video clip here at YouTube, by the way is:
What a wonderful man! It's so sad that he's gone to his reward. We are a diminished world without him. Thank you Charlton for a wonderful film career you left for us to cherish....and who could forget:

Planet of the Apes came AFTER 'Starship Enterprise'. But I wouldn't expect a nazi gun nut to know it was called Star Trek.
