Damn, I bet Memphis wishes they had drafted Blair instead of Thabeet, along with all the other teams. How lucky was San Antonio to get this guy in the second round?
If Thabeet had more potential, why didn't he get the playing time to show it? Something tells me he has too many fundamentals missing, may end up the next Darko.
This is why NBA GMS are so dumb, watch the tape you got a guy in Thabeet who gets dominated by Blair yet you take Thabeet with the 2nd pick and Blair goes in the 2nd round. NOw Thabeet is in the NBDL and Blair is the best rookie big man. Not rocket science guys.
me too. i always thought the spurs were so boring with the big fundamental, but blair kicks so much ass, i can now look past that. i'm the same with liking memphis now because of sam young.
Say what? Tim Duncan was nothing like Blair in college. Timmy was one of the most skillful and cerebral players coming out. Blair is a straight up beast... a widebody with a nose for the ball.
Hopefully he learns some offense from Duncan, and the basic fundamentals from the Big Fundamental. That way when he leaves, they have another solid PF to take over and keep the Spurs going as a top team in the league.
This is why Pop>Phil. Phil always switches to the top teams in the league. Pop makes the important decisions, and drafts steals like Parker, Ginobili, and now Blair.
I think Tim,Ratliff,McDyess can teach Blair how to play the PF very well. He has an all star of teachers lol. I wouldnt be suprised if he starts though. If he shows he can Defend big men well he would probably start. It would be very hepfull if he does become a good defense big men espically agasint the Lakers. Pau Gasol has trouble when he is played agisnt tall good D players. Blair has what a 7 foot wingspan!
Well the 3 are getting older, so having a nice fresh rookie starting will help all 3 play A LOT less minutes. He will also mature faster, and having the greatest PF of all time there to train you, maybe he'll even earn his starting position. I just hate to see Timmy go back to C, I really liked him better at PF.
It's actually like a 7'2", or maybe an inch bigger. So yeah, people can't say he's short when you consider that factor in.
I just can't wait. Next season is going to be GREAT.
You should give that credit to the GM but Phil come on now. John Paxson/Steve Kerr, best pure shooters in the league, Dennis Rodman, best rebounder in the league, Scottie Pippen...enough said, ron harper, horace grant, B.J. Armstrong and of course your Airness. How can you say those bulls teams weren't carefully orchestrated like Pop's Parker, Ginobili etc. Not even to mention Laker teams but I'm just saying Pop is an all time great but don't mitigate the accomplishments of Mr. 11...Phil Jackson
haha you're probs right...those dumb-as-fuck NBA gm's have a 7 footer fetish. i.e. darko, patrick o'bryant, olowokandi, jerome james...and don't even get me started on "potential" lol
is blair undersized? yes. are there other undersized and successful nba players? yes. did blair outperform just about every other big in the ncaa? yes. willl blair be a future nba star? no. is he easily capable of putting up 14-10? yes. is that worth a second round pick? yes.
is he a good complement to tim duncan? yes. thats all that matters.
@aberjan21 true, but i wouldn't say that he won't ever be a star. He seems to have to little something extra that the stars of the league have. In five or so year, i wouldn't be surprised if he's a 14-12 guy. Remember Magic Johnson only averaged about 17 points, but you knew the kind of talent he had. Not saying Blair will be an all-pro, but i could see him as a top-notch starter. Remember he's only 20.
@metalfang5 i know he's just a rookie, and he does seem to have what your talking about, i think at the end he doesn't have quite the skill level to be an all-star player with his size. im always seeing him struggle on the offensive side of the ball. against the lakers he was getting manhandled by gasol and bynum. theres just too much size in the nba for him to be one of the best bigs.
but i do see him as a very good player in the future, putting up double doubles. just dont expect 18ppg
@aberjan21 14 - 10 is definitely and i say definitely not a 2nd round pick. that's lottery numbers. also not every rookie of the year is a 20-5-5 or 20-10 guy. a 15 - 8 guy have been rookie of the year in the past.
i was thinking of him the same way before but i think i've greatly underestimated him then. this guy is a beast. right now hes like 8pts - 7reb per game in just 18 minutes. could be a 20-10 guy in a couple of years. if he was on a shit team right now playing 30+ mins hell get 15rpg.
Thabeet is so overrated, yeah he's tall and got a great defensive game but DeJuan Blair is a damn good player, he's got the physicality and skill to be a solid PF in the NBA.
The Spurs did not have a first round pick this year but they got first round talent in this guy! how can a guy he manhandled go #2 in the draft and this guy goes #37. He will play with a chip on his shoulder.
blair dominated thabeet in college..& good luck thabeet in the nba..besides rebounding & blocks' he has no offensive game...look for him to have a long tenure working on his offensive game..
Im looking all over Spurs networks to see if their going to bring over Tiago Splitter from Europe. He's that missing piece that we need, he's like a Pau Gasol, but not a weak-ass like him. Spurs fans dont know much about him, but he can BALL. Spurs potential lineup:
Tiago Splitter will stay another year in Europe because of his buy-out, it's too high.
I agree with you, he's a baller! It's a shame that he won't play for the Spurs next year...
GO SPURS
P.S.
Blair isn't a SF, he remembers me Malik Rose; you also forgot McClinton and De Colo from the bench, maybe they'll be useful during the season (McClinton for sure).
I read somewhere over the internet that with the economy being so bad that some european teams are trying to get rid of some big contracts and Tiago will have a good chance of coming to the NBA. I know Blair isnt a SF, but with Duncan being the PF, blair has no choice but to be a SF. Duncan wont move to Center and I didnt add are other picks until they make the team, but you can add them because Im excited about this years draft...great job by the SPURS.
come on man lets be real blair small forward nobody would ever put blair in that position. if anything look at glen davis plays a back up center alot and he is only about 6'7 . blair could come off the bench as a power forward if that was the case or back up center with a tall foward by his side.
Blair WILL be an all-star in this league you can write it down, if he stays healthy. Thabeet??? I don't know, I wanna see him do good too but I think he's overrated. Blair manhandled him in both games.
Starters: Pg-Parker Sg- Ginobili Sf-Jefferson Pf-Gooden C-Duncan Reserves: Mason Jr., Finley, Blair,Bonner, Hill, McClinton, Udoka, hopefully Mahinmi can contrubute... nvm scrub Bonner, wack ass nando de colo, and jacque vaugn and get a big via FA, then we'll be da shitt..
i was at this game on center court and these highlights dont do justice to how dominant and impressive Blair was. Every single one of his baskets came after Uconn made impressive baskets and it looked like they were gonna pull it close and Blair kept making plays against THabeet and just took the air out of the stadium about 5 different times
SPURS STARTERS=pg-Parker sg- Mason Jr sf-Jefferson pf-Blair c -Duncan BENCH= Ginobili, Finley, Gooden,Bonner, Hill and Bowen might return?? uhhh that lineup looks fucken SCARY!! GO SPURS GO!!!!! give them the trophy now!!!

dejaun blair=dirtbag that has no skill just strength and getts away with illegal pushes and tried to snap thabeets arm off, that is why he "owned thabeet"
No actually he owned thabeet cuz he has 22pts and 23 rebs to thabeets 4pts 5 reb in that game. and in 2 matchups he average 15 and 15.5 to thabeets 9 and 9.........................................thats why Blair OWNED him!
oh yes...i can only imagine his thoughts in the locker room- "hey coach, i'm going to go intentionially snap thabeet's arm in half". yea i see that totally happening.
i think i have a calhoun crying towel left from the last matchup. maybe i should give it to you.

ummm who made it to the final four? whos going to be the 2nd or 3rd pick in the nba draft and be a better mutumbo? whos going to have a shit career in the nba because hes too short and slow? thats a one year wonder team for pitt anyways they have that type of year once a decade uconn is a national powerhouse who produces the most and the best nba players pitt never wins the ncaa tournament or gets the final four and they produce shit nba players that is why uconn is better than pitt
wow, completely irrelevant to what i said. hmm, i wonder why you got so defensive... i never said that we were better than you... just said we were able to beat you twice this year, which is something to brag about given your stellar program. and calhoun crying 24/7 is always fun to rip on.
my team lost a tough game to a very respectable big east opponent. yours shit the bed to a team that got completely ass raped by UNC.
in other words, your last tourney game wasn't so hot either.
How can you say completely irrelevant, by saying "we beat uconn how many times this year?" implys that pitt is better than uconn which is rediculous, also you dont have anything on calhoun the man is perennial HOFer and a cancer survivor, and please dont tell me that you think pitt wouldnt get their asses handed to by unc even though uconn and pitt would have the best chance against unc, lets leave it at this, pitt is a respectable program but cant match uconns current tradition of winning
i implied that we can play with the big kids- and win despite ppl thinking pitt is a crap team. we were better than you twice in terms of game matchups this year. i agree your tradition has been lasted for years- pitt has been on the rise since dixon came to town. i'm not saying we would have beat unc but you and i both know that either pitt or uconn would have made a much better showing than a freaking big 10 [or 11...thx psu] team.
at least we would have showed them some big east lovin'.
Please dont compare Thabeet to Mutumbo. Mutumbo put up great numbers in the NBA and Thabeet cant even put up similar numbers in coolege despite being huge and all that
wtf are you talking about, thabeet could hardly catch a ball coming into freshman year and he worked himself to where he is now, in a year or two hell have a 10-15 ft shot, post moves, and thicker body
hasheem thabett is an average basketball player at best. He is sort of like a better shawn bradley. He is going to go pro now, its good that this nigger is going pro, it will make things intresting. He should be going pro in a cotton picking league, I wonder how that nigger would match up against other slaves on a farm. Who can get the most cotton in a bag, hmm would be more intresting than the NBA.
How does Pitt play two Jesuit colleges in a row? Weird..............
And BTW, the size of the student body means nothing since none of the players are chosen from the students. They are all recuited outside. That's why an all white school like Georgetown has all black players playing for the last 30 years.
what do umean if's.plus did i take about why chose college over pros. But i like both but more college.I used to watch alot of pros. The think that ilike about college is the march madness. That beats the shit out of nba since you have 1 chance,If you lose your eliminated but nba has like 4 chances.
Blair is 6'7" but he has a 7'3" wingspan. So he's more a guy who's about 6'10" or so.
He should make a good power forward in the NBA. And if Pitt had a true center that's the position he would be playing. Sam Young is more a natural small forward, and that's where he would be playing.
I hope Pitt gets to the Final Four and they play N. Carolina. Of course they won't let Blair hurt their poster boy Tyler so Blair will foul out in 25 minutes.
Or,they can lose to Villanova, a small Jesuit college of about 14,000 students in suburban Philadelphia.Have you ever heard of it? I bet you have now.I would have paid money to have been in that Pitt lockeroom
blair did awesome and thabeet did awful...yet uconn was still close and even leading toward the end??? how the hell is that possible..2nd game coming i bet uconn wins by 5-10 unless the same thing happens again which i doubt and he does great and thabeet does awful then it will be uconn losing by 10
So a coach saw that tape and STILL thought Thabeet is 2nd pick worthy? WTF

my team lost a tough game to a very respectable big east opponent. yours shit the bed to a team that got completely ass raped by UNC.
in other words, your last tourney game wasn't so hot either.
tbsigma4life 2 years ago 7
How can you say completely irrelevant, by saying "we beat uconn how many times this year?" implys that pitt is better than uconn which is rediculous, also you dont have anything on calhoun the man is perennial HOFer and a cancer survivor, and please dont tell me that you think pitt wouldnt get their asses handed to by unc even though uconn and pitt would have the best chance against unc, lets leave it at this, pitt is a respectable program but cant match uconns current tradition of winning
super34Trooper12 2 years ago
i implied that we can play with the big kids- and win despite ppl thinking pitt is a crap team. we were better than you twice in terms of game matchups this year. i agree your tradition has been lasted for years- pitt has been on the rise since dixon came to town. i'm not saying we would have beat unc but you and i both know that either pitt or uconn would have made a much better showing than a freaking big 10 [or 11...thx psu] team.
at least we would have showed them some big east lovin'.

Please dont compare Thabeet to Mutumbo. Mutumbo put up great numbers in the NBA and Thabeet cant even put up similar numbers in coolege despite being huge and all that
janitormopmop 2 years ago
Thabeet WILL NOT be a better Mutombo, considering his attitude and lack of work ethic.
Hibbs4Prez 2 years ago
wtf are you talking about, thabeet could hardly catch a ball coming into freshman year and he worked himself to where he is now, in a year or two hell have a 10-15 ft shot, post moves, and thicker body
super34Trooper12 2 years ago
hasheem thabett is an average basketball player at best.

That's why an all white school like Georgetown has all black players playing for the last 30 years.

pitt owns uconn beat em twice already. we just beat em by 10 and sam young had 31 points can thabeet even touch that?

A game of If's.That's why I prefer the college game over the pro's any day of the week!
sixteenhundredPAAVE 2 years ago
what do umean if's.plus did i take about why chose college over pros. But i like both but more college.I used to watch alot of pros. The think that ilike about college is the march madness. That beats the shit out of nba since you have 1 chance,If you lose your eliminated but nba has like 4 chances.

Blair's numbers are better than Charles Barkley.
middletonss 2 years ago
Blair is 6'7" but he has a 7'3" wingspan. So he's more a guy who's about 6'10" or so.
He should make a good power forward in the NBA. And if Pitt had a true center that's the position he would be playing. Sam Young is more a natural small forward, and that's where he would be playing.
I hope Pitt gets to the Final Four and they play N. Carolina. Of course they won't let Blair hurt their poster boy Tyler so Blair will foul out in 25 minutes.
familybc146 2 years ago
Or,they can lose to Villanova, a small Jesuit college of about 14,000 students in suburban Philadelphia.Have you ever heard of it? I bet you have now.I would have paid money to have been in that Pitt lockeroom

blair did awesome and thabeet did awful...yet uconn was still close and even leading toward the end??? how the hell is that possible..2nd game coming i bet uconn wins by 5-10 unless the same thing happens again which i doubt and he does great and thabeet does awful then it will be uconn losing by 10
sciontcdude 2 years ago
It's possible because during the the opening 30 minutes of the game, Pitt's back court was a combined 1-26 shooting.

Pitt will win by 5-10...Tabeet is scared!
