i did the trip with lyme's diesease, medicated on stuff that makes your skin very sensetive to the sun so i could not expose my skin for long periods of time even my hands had burned a layer of skin off so i had to wear gloves. well the trek was about 90 miles my crew consisted of about 3 different troops i was from troop 74
I got back on the 29th of July our troop did trek 14 we summitted Phillips and got up at 4 Am to climb the tooth it was still dark =D most inspirational thing in my life. One heck of a time!
Made this trip with Troop 3 in 1966. My older brother was a ranger for 3 years there and was running the mess hall the year I went. I was so proud and happy to see him so far from home. Philmont looks the same but the world has changed. Even the great flood they had when my brother was a ranger there could not destroy its natural beauty and my introduction to it. Nice video.
Nice to see it still looks the same as did back in '96 and '98 when I went. It truly is a life changing experience. The best memory I have is watching the sun rise from the top of Comanche Peak. Every scout should have a chance to make this trek it really is something else. I hope that I can go back someday.
as my 1st time goin i was the pace setter on the 3rd to last day. Came 20 feet away from a bear in the morning i stopped, turned around and i was like "bear" and people whipped out there cameras, then bout 10 seconds later her cubs ran away right behind her. i got to fill out a bear sighting report!
i went last year and i was at the borderline of the physical abilitty to go i was at the smallest weight limit for 5"4' haha but my ranger took us out really early in the morning to give us his "parting gift" he took us to sit on the top of "The Tooth" to watch the greatest sunrise of all time ya this was an intense trip.
@johnv811 same here! at one point i remember lying on teh ground in my leaky rainjacket screeming curses at the weather! but it was stillan awesome trip
i went to Philmont in 2007 and i get to go back for the 100 year anniversary. tooth of time wasnt what i expected, but mt phillips, wow that was the best of times and the wost of times. on our way up we got hit by hail. in June!?!
my boyfriend just left this morning to go to philmont for 2 weeks, he told me a lot about what the scouts do nd how it works... i wanted to see for myself.
i did trek 30 this past summer! we got caught in the fire that was 1 mile away from our camp and had to evacuate on the second night

ask your council if there is a contengit crew going. i know people who do that, or they get put in a crew with a few open spots from another troop/
