cheers frisco,plenty of info! last year with NO knowledge, i just drained the blocks(we had our worst winter ever - 1 full week under -10 celcius,i was worried my winterise attempts would be found out come the spring!!! but she fired up easily! btw do not purchase a 95 sea ray!!!seen ur other video (couldnt resist,sorry!)but shes a beaut, plenty of time over winter to tip away at it,doing bits every now n again- come spring youl realise shes near ready and ul get more enjoyment after ur efforts
I soak my bellows with tirefoam to keep it soft and leave it down all winter.. And that dosen't look like my Alpha..It looks like a type 1 I have on my 74 Trihull???
Do you actually need to drain the block before you add the anti freeze? Can you just pump 5 gallons of anti freeze in and wont that kick all of the water out the exhaust? Or do I need to drain all of the water, AND THEN pump anti freeze in? I would leave my anti freeze in and then just drain it in the spring.
Did you know that the purpose of filling the engine and exhaust manifolds with RV antifreeze is twofold -- one to protect from freezing and the other is to protect from rust? When you drain out the antifreeze, metal surfaces are exposed to air and the corrosion process begins. If those surfaces are submerged with the antifreeze, corrosion is inhibited. The antifreeze should be left in the engine over the winter to insure both freezing and corrosion protection.
also you should run anti freeze through all the plumping such as the bilge pump and you should change the gear oil and the water pump in the out drive
I have been a fan of yours during the re-build and was hoping you would make a winterizing video. Question, when you fog the engine, do you still run antifreeze through the engine?
How did you Fog the engine after you had already antifreezed the it? Did you just pour more pink while you fogged it? Thanks

@lebanoncurt Yes. It takes two people. I poured as my son fogged it.

Another tip is to throw a shower cap on the carb to keep water from leaking into it.

@jerryyoungtx OOOOO... that is a great idea.

Yea its better 2 leave the antifreez inside tue blocksm... Keeps it from rust and other stuff... Good choice

@FriscoJarretts thanks for the awesome video, but after water drained how did you keep antifreeze in with your petcocks out?

@bcstringer
I drained it all. The antifreeze was a flush. This year I am leaving it in.

@stlouissux9119
You can do it either way.
FriscoJarretts 4 months ago
@FriscoJarretts So you don't need to drain the block before doing the anti freeze and you run no risk?
stlouissux9119 4 months ago
Thanks for the video. We keep our boat in a garage that gets very cold. This was quite helpful!

@sideskraft
There are many thoughts on this. The mercruiser manual say nothing about this, and air cannot freeze.

Frisco, Where did you buy those brass petcocks you installed in the block drains? Nice job man!

@ChrisCraftJohnny I got those at a local boat repair place. The guy just gave them too me.

I do the gear oil in the spring, along with the impeller. The drive is stored inside. In this boat there is not plumbing, and the bilge is dry.

You forgot to change the gear oil

Yes my wife poured the antifreeze as I fogged. Took about 10 seconds.

I did forget to say that. You do need to put it in the full forward position.

Can you make a video for winterizing a jet ski?

Great video, but you forgot to mention to put the shifter in forward gear before outdrive removal...
