@DarklingX yea i know. but if you take it's use as fuel out of the equation then oil would become an extremely cheap commodity. we could probably get what we need with just a few domestic on-shore wells. so we could break all dependence on imported oil, and would certainly not need to drill off-shore.

@IschysDynamis uh, well... that message is a bit too broad and ambiguous. you can't just say "stuff sucks", and we should "make it not suck". you have to reduce it down to digestible units. breaking fossil fuel addiction is a clear and understandable goal that would go a long way towards making the earth a better place to live. not just in terms of the environment, but also it would greatly reduce our involvement in middle east politics.

@IschysDynamis well, i'm not holding my breath for people to stop being greedy. in my opinion karl marx's manifesto was fatally flawed in that it failed to acknowledge greed and the individuals desire to excel. as for the other behaviors you mentioned... deceptiveness, adultery etc... these are unfortunately traits deeply woven in the human psyche, and would require a spiritual awaking of epic proportions to mitigate. i suggest we stick with something attainable... like giving up oil.
