  • Even though very virtuoso violinists have their own interpretation of Bach, I believe they have reached the acme of playing and thus, should not be criticised in terms of the mood, colour ,etc.

  • ASM rocks! All haters can go smoke their bows.

  • well played...not sure i like all the wide romantic vibrato in bach etc, but she has a great and very personal style

  • Arguing about music is like dancing to architecture.

  • Beautiful woman and amazing violinist.

  • This video sucks but the artist is so wonderful!

  • Conheço uma violinista Portuguesa que se chama "Ana Sofria Muito" que é muito mais musical!!!

  • danke, joeplatter

  • you are amazing!

  • Preciosa la interpretación de Mutter.¡Hasta el gran Von Karajan, pese a su misoginia tuvo que plegarse al talento de ella.¡Posiblemente la mejor violinista de hoy.!

  • Great tone. She is playin with a soul. True artist

  • I agree, the marketing of Anne-Sophie Mutter is great. But her music does not touch my heart.

  • Probably the most touching performance of this work that I have ever heard.....including Messrs Perlman, Vengerof,Milsten, and Kogan. Stunning interpretation! A previous writer mentioned availability of the complete works....I'd like to know too!

  • she in one of the best violinis in the world(now days)almos at the level of perlman or maxim vengerof

  • She's beyond Perlman and Vengerov because she plays impossible modern pieces whereas Vengerov and Perlman do not as often.

  • I'd say at the level of Hilary Hahn or vice versa. Although Hilary Hahn is very young her level of playing is almost perfection, in my opinion.

  • Yes, technique and rule-wise (I mean following the conventions of the genre), Hilary Hahn is great. But Anne-Sophie Mutter is the best in sheer power and emotion. Even when Mutter breaks the rules, she sounds great; you can forgive her.

  • well...

i have to say Anne-sophie mutter is the owner of the firs plase in my list of violinist because her music is so expresive, but even i have to recon she is not as good as vengerof, maybe as perlman buy maxim vengerof skill is probably the best nowdays.

i repeat the violinis i admire most is anne-sophie mutter but she is no te best(sadly T.T)

tank good one of the best

  • Well, that is your opinion. However, I will say that Anne-Sophie Mutter's repertoire extends beyond most modern day violinist. She's played everything Vengerov has played and some. Innovation: Not only has she played numerous pieces, she has not let critics detour her form having the most distinctive SOUND and TONE in the business. I could recognize Anne-Sophie Mutter's sound over a mile away. Vengerov--it would take me a few minutes to know who exactly is playing.

  • i disagree mutter does havea great repetoire but so does vengerov i mean have the new viola concerto that he plays? its really quite creative and definetly out of the ordinary. Also their are some very distinct things in vengerov's sound that set him apart. especially the way he plays bach.

  • I agree with you deeply. There's something to be said for that "characteristic sound;" it's one of the marks of a great violinist. The problem here is that mzrequiem does not understand that his opinions are utterly subjective--literally, there is no basis upon which he can objectively uphold his claim that Mutter is "maybe as good as Perlman" but that "Vengerov's skill is probably the best nowadays." This is a trap into which a lot of music-lovers fall. Even if I wanted to say that "Mutter's

  • (continued from last) "Mutter's tone is the best of any violinist," I couldn't, because there's no way to empirically prove such a claim. It's all a matter of preference. I can say, however, that Mutter's showmanship, emotion, and musicianship are all astounding, and that her playing moves me profoundly in a way that very few other violinists can achieve. People like mzrequiem should refrain from saying stupid things about music, like "she's not the best." Words like "best" are subjective!

  • You are right! I said that as well. Of course, I do believe Anne Sophie is the best relative to the violinist I have heard, in my opinion. Of course, I can not say she is the best in the world because I have not heard the millions of violinists that exist. But out the "famous" soloist I have heard, in my opinion, she is the best which is why more composers have composed music for her than any other violinist!!!

  • Mzrequiem can not be serious to even dare to compare Vengerov to Mutter. It will take more than a few extra lives for Vengerov to even get close (and that's very doubtful!!!)to Mutter's technique, delivery and above all interpretation of everything she has played and whatever else she will decide to play in the future!

  • Thank you for posting this video. She is the most superb musician I had the joy to hear many time. I wish the young violinist of today could learn from her

  • the accords are too "brutal", for my taste. and i don`t like glissandi in bach music.

  • You need to have your ears checked. There is nothing brutal in her chords. She is just the most superb violinist of today

  • Chords are clearly to hard. And she is not the best violinist, perhaps best markets.

  • You are not a professional musicianI presume and definitely not a violinist. So I forgive you for your ignorance.

  • oh, yes i am.

I am not (professional musician hardcore ;-))the only one think in such a way.

    Sorry for you fixed.

  • She plays in here native town here.

    Amazing!!!

  • She is a real musician and fantastic violinist.I want to listen or watch complete J.S.BACH Sonatas and Partitas of her. What can i say?Thank you sebastiaan001.

  • she needs to record her bach!!

  • does anybody know, when this was recorded?

a.s. mutter is one of my favorite violinplayers. why? because she plays authentic music, as the old masters oistrakh or menuhin and others...

  • @doublearejazz One question do you play violin? I won't judge the jazz guitar but I can't believe you think it is ( nothing ) special it is very special the gift of playing cello, violin, viola, and bass is hard classical acoustic is hard. All classical music is hard I am just bothered by how you said it is nothing special. I don't mind improvising at all a piece but I take that comment as your think the instrument or piece is simple.

  • @doublearejazz

    OK.... Ok....

Bach himself improvised daily abaut his own pieces: W. F. Bach

  • With the main difference, that Bach would have improvised multiple voices at the same time if the instruments selection suggests it. A guitar does suggest it. Way to go... You can see how it is done by watching the Ted Greene videos. He also got a few, particularly for guitarists, interesting materials online. Have fun.

  • You have no idea what you're talking about old man. To accomplish what Anne sophie mutter has accomplished takes a hell of a lot more talent to do than your awful attempt at Bach. A serabande is a dance not some random pentatonic scale and jazz chord that you do on your piece of shit video. Anne Sophie Mutter has performed with the best orchestras in the world, you on the other hand put a video on youtube. She's accomplished more than you'll ever accomplish in your life so show some respect.

  • @uscdb07 Coca-Cola has performed at the finest places where ads can be seen but is it a good drink then ? It's all a matter of taste. She has a stunning tone but I personally believe that her taste and understanding of music is rarely convincing. Agogic and structure..

  • @doublearejazz What are you talking about? This piece wasn't made for guitar certainly not jazz. And reading notes sight reading is hard so I don't know what your talking about. To hear something new? but this piece isn't made for a jazz guitar I haven't seen someone who thinks that a guitar is better than the playing of Anne Sophie Mutter and her violin is priceless. You have no idea how to play Bach. I can't believe that her lifes work is compared to your simple jazz guitar playing.

  • absolutely sensual ....

  • how rare is this? she never recorded solo bach ever and this has never been released

  • omg shes so young before she changed her vibrato, i liked her sound back then i cant listen to her now

  • Mutter is the best, nobody can reach her!!!

  • i love her!!

  • What a gem!

  • I don't understand why some people critized her playing when she is the most amazing violinist!! She may play everything really romantic and over the top but hey, isn't that what makes her unique??

  • ya you're right, there is something in her playing that i appreciate. i collect her cds especially the contemporary

  • This is one the greatest Bach's plays!Mutter plays it more than brilliant!
