I was surprised to learn that this version is NOT the original! The original was more of a country-blues(as a opposed to straight country) song recorded by it's writer, Alex Harvey. His original is here on You Tube, and also available at CD baby. Tanya really did make the song her own, however. Hard to believe she was 13!! Doesn't sound like it.

Here's another(possible) example,maybe. No one knows for sure, but it is believed that folk singer/songwriter Lori Lieberman still in her (late) teens when she recorded the ORIGINAL version of Killing Me Softly(with His Song), before Roberta Flack covered it and had a megahit with it.

Lori is believed to have been about 18 or 19 when she did it, but she sounded like someone WELL into adulthood!

Alex Harvey wrote it about his mother on the day she died in Brownsville TN. He had just returned from a television taping in Jackson, TN due to his rock band winning a local talent night. He wouldnt allow his mother to go, upon returning home he was informed she had died. He does it with so much soul you want to cry! In blues form too not the twangy country version.

Now I can't even describe how terrible it is. With the exception of the older country singers (Jackson, Strait, B&D, and the lies) nothing sounds anything like the country music I was brought up on. They might claim to sing "country", but true country music is dead.
