  • hey ég heiti líka Álfgrímur

  • hahahaaa...big Kisses From Iceland

  • like if you understand what the kids were saying in Icelandic

  • The boy had not started learning English in school but he, as so may other children listen to films on the TV and learn, so did my son.

  • The most people from northern countries speak very good english. The more south you come the more worse it gets. I have been to south Italy a few years ago. No way with english. I love Italy but they should learn more foreign languages.

    Wanna go to Iceland soon.....!!!

  • so young and understands English! even if only a little bit

    impressive :)

    very cool vid

  • @MagicalSunrise1984 Every kid in Iceland start learning english in school when they're about 7-9 and then danish when they're 11. And if they decide to carry on in school after 10th grade(most teens do) they have to choose between german, france and spanish. So altogether we can speak 4 languages. I think it's tough but awesome(i will start learn spanish next year)! :D

  • @NorgexDanmark i think... just... think... that you like aph

  • Gaur ekki ljúga að þeim.

  • The way he says "Huh?" is cute. It doesn't even sound like a question

  • It´s "Ha" - it means something like "What" when asking someone to repeat a question. I agree, it´s awesome.

  • haha- I speak Icelandic!

In the end he was like:

    "HA? I dont understand you!"

    lol

  • Hello this is me im 13 years old now i was 8 years old in the video it is really funny to watch this now 5 years later LMAO.

  • Dude that's awesome! How funny is it you actually came across this video? We had fun talking with you. I have one question for you, though. How do you spell your name?

  • Álfgrímur :)

  • Wow! I can't believe the coincidence here. I was just reading these comments, and was really surprised. It's not every day you randomly come across a video made of yourself.

  • @csbolt84 You spell his name "Arngrímur"

  • @csbolt84 I think it's Arngrímur ;)

  • @MrBilakall97 no, i think he said Arngrímur

  • @TheFemaleIcelander his name is Álfgrímur

  • @csbolt84 I will answer this one, i´m Icelandic :P i think he said Arngrímur... Okey its like fucking Eyjafjallajökull lool, i can imagine how that sounds for you, and wow Americans think we´re retarded eating (skata) fucking MOST disqusting that i know of here in Iceland, fucking sheep heads too, like WTF? its kind of a *"tradition" but i fucking find it disqusting and all my friends do too, my mom dont even eat that shit, but my grandma does.... She´s 70 haha. But i´m 20 btw..

  • @DrTrawly haha wtf ?

  • @DrTrawly Held frekar að hann hafi sagt Álfgrímur hehe :)

  • @csbolt84 Álfgrímur

  • @alfsi97 ertu í alvörunni strákurinn á þessu myndbandinu? hvernig vitum við að þú ert ekki að plata okkur bara?

  • @alfsi97 I don't believe you...

  • @alfsi97 ur a liar

  • This is not funny..

  • Oh that was too sweet, that little boy really made an effort, and explained at the end that he just didn't know enough English. What a sweet boy:)

  • So "ha" is short for "what"?

  • It's usually just short for "What did you say?" or "Can you say that again?". There are also a few other uses for "ha".

  • correct,

Ha? = what? (usualy used to anounce that one did not hear what other said)

Hæ = Hi (a casual greeting)

1(Viltu gjöra svo vel) að rétta mér glasið= 1(Please) hand me that glass.

Please not, if you think an Icelander is being rude when speaking to you, it is not intentional, our own language is built up so thet it is hard being as polite as the English speaking people.

  • Thanks!

    rudeness: really? how so?

  • Do you mean you don't have formal word forms?

  • We have them but we usually don't use them in everyday life. For instance i call my boss by his first name and i never say sir/madam or the Icelandic equivalent herra/frú. If i would i would probably be treated like a kissass around the workplace. About please, we dont have that word in icelandic, we have to form a whole sentance in a proper way to get that meaning. That is not to say we are not friendly here, we are very friendly.

  • Oh I see, because of the small population and likely hood of being related in some way to the people you see or meet everyday, right?.

  • Comment removed

  • in icelandic you can say either 'ha' or 'hvað ertu að segja'

  • Haha! I think I'll go with "ha" just out of its brevity :)

  • haha, ok :D

  • heheh cute kid...well its pretty obvious there's no traffic in iceland

    boy- " ha?..eg skil ekki.. =("

    LMAO

  • I love how he checks out that women at the end crossing the street. haha xD

  • me too hahahahaha

  • what if some tourist from another country, came up to you in your country talking in some weird language, mmhm, harrassing the kids of Iceland

  • notice the kids go up to the woman and start the conversation in english, not the lady in the movie.

  • Actually the woman is filming the kids for god knows what reason, then the kid says hæææ = hi

  • well actually, in Iceland the Hi sounds like english but it is written Hæ so he was just prob talking icelandic, because then he said in icelandic"ertu að taka myndir af okkur? which means "are you taking pictures of us"

  • Absurd conversation indeed, hahaha

Actually I know this kid, he was 6 at the time. A real ladies man.

  • Y-y-yess...

  • That's Cute...

  • Hay good video, Thanks Jamie for posting it too me It made me laugh :-D

  • i am going to iceland in november, and tips of advice? thanks

    Jamie

  • First boy I ever kissed was from Iceland. He was here in Florida as an exchange student. His name is Erikur Bjarnason. His sister is awesome. But her last name is Bjaradaughter (misspelled, I'm sure). Male's last name ends with 'son' and female's ends with 'daughter'. Eirkur (Eric), was the first boy to kiss and I remember it well. We got caught in a rain and was stuck under a library awnning. Too bad I slapped him...lol. Oh what a guy!

  • Bjarnsdóttir

  • That's it! Thank you for correcting that.

I love that country. I wish I still have my Icelantic book.

  • It would actually be Bjarnadóttir if the boy was Bjarnason.

  • they really do sound Viking :D

  • lol, I'm Icelandic, so I understood his part as well.. he must have been well freaked out haha :P

  • The kids seem very very friendly. I am going to iceland in november, any tips?

  • Can you tell me what the boys say please?

  • After the hi, he says; are you taking a picture of us? then he says; are you icelandic? and after the "conversation" he says; i don't know.. i don't understand

    :)

  • Hahaha, it would go worse in Poland :D Really, he's not that bad ^^

  • no, poland is pretty understanding in english... most people ahha... go to warsaw though.

  • Honestly, I am not totally convinced :) I doubt if such a little boy would understand an English native speaker... but perhaps he would. It's getting better and better when it comes to languages here. Well, Warsaw... Warsaw is kind of multinational :D

  • maybe he doesn't want to learn english just yet?

  • hahaha i know that lil boy i always saw him in school when i was in school b4 hahaha

  • oh and i forgot im 12

  • lol that was nothing that kid was about 9 or something i was 6 ( im icelandic and look im WRITING ENGLISH) when i first began speakin english its becouse my sister kinda forced me to.

  • já voðalega vinalegt hérna nema kannski þarna í miðbænum, ekkert sérstaklega fallegir hlutir fara þarna fram við sólsetu og ég tala af reynslu :(

  • That was cute, in an awkward and honest way. Loved when he said Ha.

  • what an adorable kid! so friendly :) he seems more mature than i'd expect from a boy his age.

  • Strákurinn var algjör dúlla XD (The kid was so cute)

For foreigners, the kids said at the beginning (besides "hæ"(hi)) "Taka mynd af okkur? Ertu íslensk?" (Filming us? You Icelandic?)

  • aw... yeah I think he was so cute... saying ha? all the time.. tee hee hee... it's like when ppl say þú veist or skilurðu accidentally to foreigners.

  • hahahaha, i do that all the time :P

  • But I'm amazed that such a young kid could speak some English, even if he had difficulty with some of it. Well done him!

  • funny how she just picked him out of the other poys and talked to him,, geting him alone and all,, makes you wonder,, p.s. i'm from iceland ( ég er frá íslandi)

  • hahaha the little boy called in the beginning: hi!! are you filming us? :D hahaha

  • hehe. :p

I am from Faroe Islands, that reminds on faroe islands. Iceland, Faroe Islands and small places in Norway you don´t have to worry too much about talking to strangers. Growing up such places is freedome.

When i was young the only time i went home was when eating. Otherwise it was just lots of games around the neighbourhoods with my freinds.

I can see that the little dude is bored with the interview and want to get away to play with his freinds :P i understand him.

  • the boy said sorry I can't understand you sorry! :D

  • Krúúútt :'')

Im icelandic and its kinda funny haha :d

  • Haha! I'm Icelandic, I find this hilarious. :P

The boy didn't understand much, he was kinda young after all. :)

  • ha = i did not get that, can you say it again ?

  • i'm from icelad and he was saying that he didn't understand

  • cute!

  • Aww i love small country like this

Where you dont have to worry about stranger or any.. small lil place

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! We dont know every1 in the country! I mean..i dont really know everyone in my town... or school... hahaha ! I just love when people think that!

  • lol UrdurFlatbraud is right!! there live 300.000 people in iceland all over the country! how are we supposed to know everyone hahaha!:') don't be so ignorant lmyao!;)

  • wow, for me it was interesting! cute little boy

  • can somebody please write his name in icelandic? it sounded so... exotic!

  • It's Arngrímur

  • thanks!! it's beautiful. i especially like the sound of the last R.

  • Sorry, it is not Arngrímur (wich means Eagle-mask), but Álfgrímur, it literally means Elf-mask, but I am sure there is a deeper meaning wich I don´t know, that has to bee looked up.

  • I wrote this as a reply to an earlier post asking about the meaning of his exotic name and someone replied that the name was Arngrímur, somehow it got here to the front.

  • hahahaha krúttið :D

  • Álfgrímur became my friend, because of this video. He is really very cute.

  • Haha cute kid! ;D Kids in Iceland start learning english really early but not just in school they also pick up words from TV & computer games.. I didn't start learning english in school until I was like 12 years old but not long after that my english had gotten better than my teacher's!

  • yeah, i dont know how long ago that was but your typing is spot on

  • eg tala islensku (;

  • Cool video, the only Icelandic I know is: Halló, Ég heiti Sara (my name), The only reason I think I remember it though is because it is similar to the German (which is the language I'm taking in school)

Hallo, Ich Heiße Sara. Oh, and I know taska. =P

I want to learn more though Icelandic seems like a really cool language, and Iceland a cool country.

  • jájá flott

  • haha þetta er algjör snild

    -sandra-iceland

  • Translation:

    Hæ!!! : Hi

    Ertu íslensk?: Are u icelandic?

    Ha?: Huh?

Ég kann ekki/Ég skil ekki: I dont understand

  • I'm Icelandic. When i was twelve i spoke icelandic PERFECT. AND I MEAN PERFECT!!!!

  • Very funny.....

  • That was not meant to be a racist comment btw, just saying. I'm sure most Icelanders are lovely. Just thought i'd say before someone kicks off about it.
