When I close my eyes and listen to this live recording, I imagine it's being sung by a drunken angel (it sounds like she's changed the words to "you're just human; you get what you can") who is spilling out all the truth of living. I know that Chan Marshall has personally struggled with alcoholism, and I'm certainly not trying to make light of or play at that. There's just something tragically beautiful and poetic about it.

most people don't realize that she was probably drunk during this performance... she didn't get sober until after juke box, and said that it wasn't until then that she ever performed sober. that means any performance before 2006 she was probably drunk. give me all the thumbs down you want, but thats the dirty and very unfortunate truth. whats amazing is that despite how she fucked up her life, she was still the best female artist of the 90s and beyond.
