There is nothing worse then a Comedy that isn't funny, And i'm a easy guy to please and love black comedys.... But this movie was plain not funny. It's been about a year since I have seen it and forgot what the whole point of it was. People say Horror is the hardest genre to get right, I think comedy is the hardest genre to get right.
I can't stand folks who defend this movie by questioning their comprehension and intelligence. I'm not saying this movie was awful but it was definitely not good. If it's not supposed to be a comedy then what is it? I'll tell you, another bad Clooney flick. The movie goes no where and it's dull. There is a hint of humor sprinkled throughout along with mostly unfunny scenes. If you loved Leatherheads, run to the theatre and watch this movie you will enjoy it.
It's by no means boring... You just have to have a certain type of humor to enjoy it. Or love the fact that this movie has no point.
What this movie does so well is give you the impression that something amazing will happen soon, when you begin to question if he really did have powers or was ever telling the truth.
Now i'm totally confused - not sure if i want to see it or not. I had mixed emotions when i saw the trailer last week while seeing another flik.
I was bewildered whether you were being complimentary or derisive of Chaplin in your comment about Clooney's facial expressions. Chaplin, as everyone in film realizes, was a god of comedy, a giant of cinema, and a classic, considering that he did most of his routines without words. No one today would be fit to be his toilet paper.
Couldn't agree more with the assessment of Chaplin; no one working today is close to his league. Ellis just hates that Clooney sometimes over-does his expressions like a little kid who just watched 9 Chaplin movies in a row. He's nowhere close to Charlie; George is more like the old guy on the Keystone Light ads.
Yay, you're back! Great review, of course.... I wanted to see this based on the trailers, but now that I'm hearing about it it sounds like a rental at most. What I'm hearing is reminding me of The Informant: trailer looks like a yuk-fest (quirky yuks), but the movie doesn't consistently deliver. Too bad; great cast and original premise. Anyway, great to see you guys!
I don't think this movie is really supposed to be that hilarious.
Of course, the studio wants to make the trailer look that way, but it is about a bizarre yet true military black op. I'm dying to see this one. Not just for the yucks.
I found MWSAG to be one of the most intelligent comedies this year. The folks I went with all had read about these studies and tests and all of us enjoyed the picture. I'm guessing this film is only able to deliver based upon what the viewer brings with them to the experience; only giving out what is put in.
I have read a few articles about the studies and experiments done both here in the U.S. and in the former U.S.S.R. Not sure which started first. That was one of the reasons I was curious, although I tend toward the skeptical view that it was money wasted on non-existent abilities.
Ellis enjoyed "Gone with the Wind", but didn't think it'll have quite the staying power of a true classic like "Atonement" or "Tango and Cash". Time will tell...
I was disturbed by the use of the word 'd*mn' in the film. These film-makers sometimes cross the line and I can only imagine the type of thing to which this will lead. I expect actresses to begin showing their underwear at this rate!! Heaven forbid!
I'm guessing you haven't been watching much commercial television the past month! Seems the ads for the film are running in constant rotation on some stations.
I watch my tv online at the network sites and this never shows up, I do remember seeing preview for it in the theater now that I think of it. I didn't remember the title though.
