i have had piriformis troubles for a few months it wasnt untill two weeks ago it caused an unbelievable amount of pain. i was immobile for about an hour. it still hurts alot and im finally going for a massage but man even thinking of putting pressure on it hurts so im excited but not at the same time
Better yet, what if she let out a big, horrible wet fart right as he went up on her gluteus Maximus??!! And it smelled like rotten eggs and ammonia!!! Aaaaaugh! Fuck!!
Tosay, almost everybody suffers from sciatic pain or periformis syndrome, which actually has to do with nerve pressure directly on the sciatic nerve or on the periformis muscle. One having to do with nerve pinching and the other with extremely tense muscles in the lumbar area.
The fact this guy is using his thumbs leads me to believe this is a bad educational video. a massage therapist thumbs wouldn't last more than half a year treating clients this way. If u are a therapist, don't do this.
I get leg spasms when I try to sleep at night that make my leg jump up and I'm wondering if piriformis syndrome is the problem. I can find these pressure spots myself when I massage the area.
true sciatica is generally caused from damage to L4 and/or L5. Psuedo Sciatica (aka. piriformis syndrome), is caused from the spasm of the piriformis which compresses the sciatic nerves that run through the muscle. So if you have never had lumbar damage, you likely don't have true sciatica.
Jai of Bodyspex showed a piriformis loosening exercise using a foam roller.
I believe he should maybe have noted that the sciatic nerve runs through the piriformis muscle in some people.
It's not a good idea for those people to be basically rolling about on the muscle and nerve. However carefully.
It'd simply loosen the muscle whilst aggravating the sciatic nerve, and I don't believe the largest nerve in the body really needs to be aggravated. It gets kinda pissy. :-)
If you have low back pain, mid-back pain, etc., there is a really good book called "Healing Back Pain" by Dr. John Sarno. It conveys, without a doubt, the most Responsible Content on the matter that I have ever come across and is NOT "about" anatomy in general. You can google his name. You can probably find it at your local library if you don't want to purchase it. P.S. I've had 2 discectomies in the past - didn't know better, and........yeah, it's a really worthwhile read.
umm, that is one way, but there are better ways to deactivate piriformis muscle trigger points. Since piriformis is a lateral rotator of the leg, its best to put it in medial rotation to put it on a stretch and strip through the muscle. You also should mention in the video to be careful not to compress the sciatic nerve.
@usherzlady Yes, I highly recommend it. Although...if you really have piriformis syndrome, it hurts like heck. It will even hurt after the massage, but after the "manhandling of your butt soreness" goes away, you'll get some relief from this treatment. It will only last a couple of days though...maybe more if you really do your stretches well. I'm a dancer, so usually I'm hurting after the next class.
A solution for 300lb clients is Barefoot Compressive Deep Tissue. Save your hands for cross-fiber and small TrP's. See my channel for samples. My 98lb ex-girlfriend is a client also.
This syndrome occurs when the piriformis irritates the sciatic nerve, which comes into the gluteal region beneath the muscle, causing pain in the buttocks and referred pain along the sciatic nerve. This referred pain is known as "sciatica." 15% of the population has their sciatic nerve coursing through the piriformis muscle. This subgroup of the population is predisposed to developing sciatica.
