You guys shouldn't give a shit who's popular or not. Just respect it's good cause for charity and it being No.1.
I understand you not listening to them often but If you've never even seen or heard of Kylie Minogue, Cliff Richard, Jason Donovan, Sonya, Bros and Bananarama, then you need a brick wall dropped on your head.
This version is like playing MILI VANILI. The only people I recognize are Banana Rama and the guy from Bronski Beat. The rest suck a lot. I have never seen or heard them before. FUCK THIS SONG. They fucked it up a lot. Probably a bunch of mainstream garbage just like "We are the world". Mainstream garbage sucks a lot. How many billions and billions of dollars do we have to give to fucken Africa. Those mother fuckers have been starving since I was a kid. Are we going to feed them for ever?
@heartsthatbleed87 A lot of them were Stock Aiken Waterman acts but they were all chart regulars in the late eighties! admittedly some of them sunk without a trace soon after but I have fond memories of them all
Not up to the standard of dudes like Simon le bon, Paul Young, Boy George, Glen Gregory, George Michael, Midge ure, etc but I do love the acts in this version! I was a big SAW fan back in the days!
You all need to wake up and realise why the popstars of this generation actually did this!! Not to take the first one off, but to do their bit and make money for a very worthy charity!!!
Originals ALWAYS outshine remakes not just in music but movies too. the money went to charity so thats good but it goes to show this generation of 'pop stars' and I use that term very loosely had no talent to write a song that would sell and make money for the starving of Africa so they done a remake.
@OnlyForEveryone Oh it does . This is far better . And more to the point is actullay alright . I hated that first version . And If this had been the original then this is the one everybody would be saying is the best
@OnlyForEveryone The original had an amazing cast of musical acts! there was no way that Band Aid 2 was going to come even close! How could this bunch beat dudes like Bono and Paul Weller and Duran Duran and Boy George! to name but a few! the original was a who's who of pop at the time.
@ebbwvalleys Here here , better than that first load of **** they did . Like I have said before the only reason most people prefere the other is because it is the original . If this had been the original everybody would be saying that this one is the best which I think it is . Better cast , better produced and generally more refined in its sounding
Everybody runs this down . Well as I have said before this version to me is far better than that original . God I hated it . This is far less cheesy and more refined . But there is something else . If this was the original and latter covered , then you woul all be saying that this is the best . Does not matter what what the subject is , where there is more than one , people will always favour the original no matter what . Anyway it still made No.1 as I recall
Funny really , I hated the orignal before I even heard it . Even worse than that shit form Slade , but this version please God forgive me I actually rather liked . Does not sound so cheesy as the original .
@Nocgirl Who cares what every singer here is suppossed to be . So long as it sounds good then what is the problem . All I know is that to me this version does not sound the chessy crap the first version did .
@franko161 Hell no! The first recording was released when I was 9 or 10 years old and freak'n LOVE the original, but this one is great too! I'm not that old really (HAHAHA) but the worst thing that anyone could say is that they don't know it, or that this one is better than the original. I'm a music teacher for younger kids and I think also the most important thing for them today is to just respect it! Great song!!!
@MOZ1175 I know, I know. The original is great. Glee made a good job but it never gonna be better than the original. Are you a music teacher? That's amazing. I'm just taking some music classes and I love it.
@franko161 I've seen it now! I like Glee and the cast of Glee do have good voices, obviously I prefer the 1984 version, because it has years of nostalgia on its side and the fact it contains a load of my all time favourite pop acts of my favourite pop decade.
since it's saw produced there's many saw artists.kylieminogue, jason donovan, big fun, sonia, who else ? maybe mandy smith . i didn't see sam fox and she's not easy to miss.
Only Lisa Stansfield escaped the Band Aid II jinx, as I recall. Bros, Jason, Bananarama = immediate slump. Kylie, Somerville, Kevin Godfrey, SAW = career translation. Pasadenas, Cathy Dennis, Sonia, Big Fun = stayed B-league. Wets = hiatus. Cliff, D-Mob, Technotronic, Chris Rea = niche charts.
most of you people miss the point, I don't care if the smith street under 10 chior is singing this song, and who cares what they are doing now. they did a great thing at the time, we should all record our own version of this song and give the profits to the right people. stop being so up yourselves!!!
any song done for this reason is a good song. most of us love the original best but we still have the problem. lets fix that and just enjoy the song, whatever version!
Thank you for your information on Jason. Although I was/am not a big fan of him, I was wondering what he does today. He was also a big star even in 80s Japan. His cover song "Rhythm of the Rain" was kind of popular then. Jason seemed to have faded away since Kylie dumped him for Michael Hutchence of INXS as I remember.
I know it's for a very good cause and everything but this seriously sucks compared to the original. However much the originals fought among themselves for the limelight at least most of them were proper artists who did their own songs. This lot are a load of SAW puppets and whose idea was it to include bloody Cliff Richard!
The original is timeless... There were no megabands doing charity songs before it.
This is a travesty to music. There is no spirit. No feeling. Half the singers can't get the timing of the lyrics right (especially Jimmy Somerville), Kylie Minogue and Lisa Stansfield both sing out of key, and the backing instruments sound like overproduced synthetic garbage, typical of the SAW output towards the end of the 80s.
Seriously guys, you should be ashamed for foisting this garbage on the public.
The thing about a good thing is that we should all learn to leave it alone. This is like a bad xerox of the song that changed everything and made us all so proud of our music.
@SpyderWWW even tho i was and still am a diehard metal fan back then the original really was groundbreaking and you couldnt fail to be touched by the raw emotion of it,sorry to say but this version is shocking,i mean, sonia, kylie n jason donavon!!! the original had truly great pop artists, half of these maybe more were 1 hit wonders and as for the latest version, what is that? a round up of the latest kareoke contestants that seem to dominate tv nowadays! cheapened the song and its aims for me!!
@Taopuppy Hehe, I used to like Marty way back when.. thought he was cute. What a pity he ruined himself with heroin use... I still like him tho. I had a massive crush on the bros twins too. Then again, I was 13 at the time lol!!!

Sir(s): Thank you for All Which We have Everyday of Life in this Very World. And I recall the Old AMERICAN Motto, "Unit, Corps, God, Country." --J. D., SATX 78202 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (=U. S. A.)
I never even knew this existed!? Lol funny what you can come across on youtube! Of course the original was the best, but being a bit younger I actually recognise most of the artists in this one which is nice from a personal perspective.
@soundseeker63 The original was the Christmas no 1 of 1984. This did the trick in 1989, and was produced by Stock/Aitken/Waterman, who at that time were even producing hits for Cliff Richard and Donna Summer. Last version topped the Christmas charts in 2004.
i didnt like this when it came out and i still dont...if they had come up with a new song instead of the absolute untouchable original then i would say ok, at least they tried...but these miserable stock/aitken/waterman creatures werent talented anyway and made this go completely downhill...i'll go and watch the midge ure/bob geldof composition now....yell on, bono...im coming....merry christmas everyone ;))))
@SenorTingle What sort of comment is that? Are they supposed to be dancing around miserable? Of course they were having fun, that is the whole point of making a charity single, and it gets the message across about the famine in the world...
Yeah this version is better than the 2004 version. I still prefer the original one tho - grew up with it, just like Roger Moore as James Bond eventho Sean Connery is the best, Sir Moore is still the best to me.
The main function of this recording is to remind the world how god-awful the music industry was in 1989. Kylie & Jason - Sonia - Bros - Cliff Richard - Wet Wet Wet... it's like a who's who of musical criminals.
@Hulk2k6 true enough, although frankly Stock Aitken and Waterman are largely to blame for the churned out sound-alikey 15-minute popstars we get these days. They showed that anyone can have a hit if you put them to a catchy (read annoying) dance backing track.
"During the later periods of Roman history, sun worship gained in importance and ultimately led to what has been called a 'solar monotheism.' Nearly all the gods of the period were possessed of Solar qualities. The feast of Sol and Victus (open unconquered Sun) on December 25th was celebrated with great joy, and eventually this date was taken over by the Christians as Christmas, the birthday of Christ."
@mrskaykins Well they certainly were professional then, during the photo shoots, you never would have guessed. Imagine having to "hold" your ex, putting a huge smile on your face, and acting like nothing's wrong? Would have been hard.
I see lots of comments about the bands on here, but lets not forget how HUGE Bros, Wet Wet Wet, Kylie, Jason, etc WERE in the late 80's.... sure Kylie is the only who still is on top, but those other bands were massive at the time.
@devilslax7 that is Matt Goss. he was lead singer of a band called Bros in the 80s. he is a solo artist now. check his new stuff out on here. type in Matt Goss Evil, great song. enjoy.

@soundseeker63 The original was the Christmas no 1 of 1984. This did the trick in 1989, and was produced by Stock/Aitken/Waterman, who at that time were even producing hits for Cliff Richard and Donna Summer. Last version topped the Christmas charts in 2004.

I thought there were five members in the Pasadenas, I could only count four.

i didnt like this when it came out and i still dont...if they had come up with a new song instead of the absolute untouchable original then i would say ok, at least they tried...but these miserable stock/aitken/waterman creatures werent talented anyway and made this go completely downhill...i'll go and watch the midge ure/bob geldof composition now....yell on, bono...im coming....merry christmas everyone ;))))

They all look like they're having a bit too much fun to me, it's no laughing matter
SenorTingle 1 year ago
@SenorTingle What sort of comment is that? Are they supposed to be dancing around miserable? Of course they were having fun, that is the whole point of making a charity single, and it gets the message across about the famine in the world...

Yeah this version is better than the 2004 version. I still prefer the original one tho - grew up with it, just like Roger Moore as James Bond eventho Sean Connery is the best, Sir Moore is still the best to me.

@madjanssen i agree Merry Xmas

The main function of this recording is to remind the world how god-awful the music industry was in 1989. Kylie & Jason - Sonia - Bros - Cliff Richard - Wet Wet Wet... it's like a who's who of musical criminals.
But it's the thought that counts >.<

@gorgobar
1989 may have been naff in parts but at least the songs were catchy and memorable not like this insipid shite we have now!
Hulk2k6 1 year ago 6
@Hulk2k6 true enough, although frankly Stock Aitken and Waterman are largely to blame for the churned out sound-alikey 15-minute popstars we get these days. They showed that anyone can have a hit if you put them to a catchy (read annoying) dance backing track.

Encyclopaedia Britannica, Volume 11 ; page 390.

I agree this is the best, the original is still great though...... Band aid 20 was just a pile of crap.

In Jason Donvan's autobiography, he said that Kylie had just dumped him and they weren't talking during this recording!!
mrskaykins 1 year ago 4
@mrskaykins Well they certainly were professional then, during the photo shoots, you never would have guessed. Imagine having to "hold" your ex, putting a huge smile on your face, and acting like nothing's wrong? Would have been hard.
I see lots of comments about the bands on here, but lets not forget how HUGE Bros, Wet Wet Wet, Kylie, Jason, etc WERE in the late 80's.... sure Kylie is the only who still is on top, but those other bands were massive at the time.

band aid 1984 > band aid 2 > band aid 20.
this version rocks because of 1:42, marti pellow is awesome and his voice is easy on par with bonos in the original
band aid 20 is shocking though

I don't care what anyone says; I like this version. It can't touch the first but it's still listenable and the spirit is still there.
Better than the godawful 2004 version.
