  • thank you for approaching this review with the respect and love it deserves. I too have an interest in all the aspects of this game. Even hearing the music makes my heart just yearn to play this game for the first time again. *sigh*

  • Hi man, fantastic!! Loved the vid!! Also great background when you were talking. Where were u?

  • Sophia Hapgood a shout out for Charles Hapgood, Atlantis is in Antarctica

  • @Kibbie7 Hey, thanks for that little bit of info! That's actually quite interesting

  • Soo many hours playing this. Indiana Jones, Sam and Max, Larry, and Monkey Island.

    Great!

  • Yes, some of the best adventure games ever made. I wish they had kept on making Indiana graphic adventures instead of the Lara Croft clone in the later games.

  • this video made my night! i remember playing this in 1992 on the old man's 486 IBM. in my opinion, the best point and click adventure game ever made.

  • I need to try and dig this one up, it looks pretty good.

I'm enjoying your reviews as well, keep up the good work :)

  • Will you ever be doing a review of the 3D Indy games? I mean, I know this is and always will be your favorite Indiana Jones game, but I was wondering what your thoughts were about Emperors Tomb and Infernal Machine?

  • If anyone wants to get good information on Atlantis, then I recommend you look at VonHelton's Underwater Pyramid series of videos here on YouTube or look at Freeman's work on the subject. (Contact me if you want to hear my THEORIES, as I have some good ones.)

    A.G.

  • what a classic indeed, its the best game i have ever played

  • wow, you are so hot!

  • Holy shit, man... I can't describe my love for the point n' click era. Hell, I might actually create a channel dedicated to games like Monkey Island 2 and The Dig...

And I'm trying to learn how to use the "Adventure Game Studio".

By the way, I played through the recent "Tales of Monkey Island" by TellTale. I personally found it to be quite good, but I still want to know what the ending of MI2 REALLY meant, and what the fuck the secret of MI really is.

  • By the way, I found a rather interesting video on that subject - watch?v=fHC4VeAlJpU

  • The ending of MI 2 was somekind of curse that LeChuck used with Guybrush to make him believe that he was a child again, in the "Monkey Island Amusement Park" XD hahaha that's why in the beginning of MI 3 Guybrush appears floating on a bumper car. Its similar to what happens to Guybrush in MI 3 (The curse of Monkey Island) Hope that helps

  • Haha, actually - you should watch this video - watch?v=fHC4VeAlJpU - I know it's a lame conspiracy theory, but damn, if it isn't likely.

It's still pretty likely that it was just a curse (I mean, Elaine flat out says it with an emphasis on "SPELL"), but Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman have said themselves that it wasn't the story that they had originally planned.

Or maybe they just like playing with their fans' minds. That'd be rather sadistic.

  • Hey thanks for the vid! it is a very good theory indeed! XD

  • I'm still confused about the action game versions cover: why are they underwater? Is Indy holding onto an anchor-rope? and why is Indy's name depicted twice?

  • This is a great retrospective. It's difficult for anyone who didn't really come of age with this game to understand just how special it was, and still is. I think this is the pinnacle of Lucas Arts game design. Everything is just perfect.

  • @TubularMonkey

One of the testers for this game teaches at my school. He hates the game.

It is my personal favorite though.

  • i really really love this game..played it has an 8 year old..though ive never heard of the action based fate of atlantis.

  • Dude. Great to have you back! My friend!

  • "it turns out"... love your accent lol

  • great review... you bring the game on its full... and you do some niiice editing too

  • Amazing review. I´m so glad being able to see this again. Great Job, Great Choice. 5/5

  • yuh SCOOOOOOOOOOOOTUSH

    peace bro

    I LOVE your vids

  • This takes me back what an absolutely brilliant game thanks for the Review mate it was very well done i salute you.

    p.s

I feel like digging this out from under the bed now lol hehehehe

  • one of my favorite games, next to monkey island

  • Yes! This game is now available on steam along with some other LucasArts classics (and yes, it's the talkie version) :D

  • I've played this game before...but I never got to play it hardly that much. Ever since hearing that the game is included in Staff of Kings on the Wii, I'm almost inclined to get Staff not only to play the main game, but to finally properly play Atlantis.

  • You might want to know that this game was released today (along with other lucasarts classics like Loom and the Dig) for 4.99 on steam.

  • I remember playing this with my dad lol, one of the first games i ever actually played the whole length through. obviously he helped lol

  • All I can say is: fantastic review! I've played many proper graphic adventure games (All Monkey Islands, Grim Fandango and more) and I've never played this! Well, I'm going to play it now! Thanks for the great insight.

  • does anybody know where I could find this timeless classic?

  • If you have a wii the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings includes this game in full as a bonus feature. Otherwise, ebay is your best bet.

  • @TheFinalHighlander Alternatively, and more conveniently, you can get it off Steam for 5 dollars

  • @Xerxes116

You can buy it on Steam. I think it is currently $5.

  • @Xerxes116 steam sells it for 3,99 dollars. i bought it there compatible with both mac and pc. timeless classic! excuse my english i am from Sweden

  • @Xerxes116 It's for sale on Steam now.

  • This is one of the best Video Game reviews I have seen!!!

  • These "Pro" review sites are the very reason why some adventure games are killed on the market for sales. Thanks for a great look back into this game, brings back memories & I'm going to be playing this on my psp today!

  • I must say this is the best review I have seen for an adventure game. You should teach those mofos at GameSpot/IGN how to approach an adventure game and review it. They always just slap a lousy score while nitpicking irrelevant areas of the game which a normal gamer wouldn't even care about or put any type of focus on. It's obvious nobody there cares for them, so why bother to review them? Leave them to people who care about the genre, like yourself.

    out of room... continued....

  • THERE WAS VOICE IN THIS GAME?!!?!??!?! WOOOOOOOOT? But that's not Harrison Ford himself now is it? And where do i get the version with voice? I've played this game soo many times and never have heard anything about voice.. !

  • Yeah the voice came in the 1993 CD-ROM version. It isn't Harrison sadly, it's someone called Doug Lee who also voiced Indy in Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. He does a great job I think.

  • Fuck mate all I get is the annotations and Captions buttons, something aint right at my end.

  • HD is not an option when I have these videos on screen.

It should say under the video no ?

  • They've changed it to a button beside the volume control.

  • why did you disable ratings? This was an awesome review!

  • i have faviorate this :)

you got me start playing this agian , lol

  • Great review. No surprise there though.

  • i got this game , using scumm emulator to play it

  • Wow! Class review Highlander. I'm not a big fan of games but your presentation is excellent. I did complete "Metroid" on N.64. but it took me a few days lol!

  • There was a Metroid game on N64?

  • Sorry I meant NES.

  • fantastic review

fate of altantis is one of the best indy games ever next to greatest advantures for the snes and Emperor's Tomb

  • Thank you for posting this! I've been looking forward to this since last summer when I watched your review of Emperor's Tomb. You inspired me to get a CD copy of this game last year, and it was well worth the experience. I hope we can look forward to more Indiana Jones game reviews - you always showed an incredible amount of knowledge in that area. Maybe you'll be able to do a review of Staff of Kings when it hits? Can't wait for part two, this was awesome!

  • you are making this reviews with so much heart. Just love watching them! Thank you.

  • Brilliant part one, can't wait for part two! Point and Clicks are my favourite genre of games, and LucasArts were the masters of it, Sam and Max, DotT,Full Throttle, the Dig and Monkey Island 1-3! Prefer them to most of the Sierra games. There were some excellent point and clicks on PS1 which is how I dscovered the genre with the original Discworld. Discworld 2, Ark of Time, Blazing Dragons, Broken Sword 1 + 2 are all my faves.

  • I used to love this game. I didn't have the talkie version. My PC at the time was a 386 with no CD ROM (they were expensive in those days) and no soundcard, so I used to play it with the (suprisingly not so bad) PC speaker sound effects.

  • Actually I first played it in this way. It was ok except the opening door noise annoyed me.

  • I think the first Lucasarts adventure with voice dialogue (albeit one year after the original). For me this is the high-water mark of the classic adventure period with great art work and musical score without relying too much on the cinematic cutscenes that would pad out adventure games a few years down the line (Grim Fandango excepted).

  • Hi man, good video but I think it's more of a retrospective than a review. But that's just me.

I wish I could watch it in HD but it refuses to load for me for some reason.

Anyway, grate work, love the shots on the rocks. looking forward to seeing the next part.

  • Yeah you're probably right. I just don't think I'd be able to fit the word "retrospective" in the title.

For some reason after being processed for HD the image quality now improves even when watching it normally. So now the HD option seems to serve to simply give you a larger screen.

  • Wish I'd played this one.

Quest for Glory 3 and 4 will always have my heart.

Kings Quest 5 and 6 also have sentimental value.

    Space Quest, yes.

    Full Throttle.

I wish games like these were still made.

  • Thats a proper beard! looking forward to part 2.

  • I have spent a good share of my childhood playing this game. It is my all-time love. Indy 4 is just the best PCA i have ever layed my hands on. Its beyond description great. Cool to see someone who likes it as much as I do. No one around me even knows it XD

  • Awesome! Finally a review of this incredibly fantastic game! And a very good one, too.

Can't wait for the remaining parts!

  • The only graphic adventure that I played was Grim Fandango. Do you know it?

    Anyway, congratulation, very nice video!

  • Yep, another Lucasarts classic and at the top of many peoples "best games ever" list.

  • fantastic vids!

  • This game looks awesome. Reminds me so much of the likes of the Discworld games. Especially with its..eh...interesting lateral thinking exercises?

  • Well I didn't actually play the game i am realizing after this review that I really missed out. I did play some point and click and kings quest was somewhat enjoyable.

I really good job on the Vid FH. Can't wait to see what you do next.

  • There are certain retro games I want to cover first because they have a sentimental value to me. but next month both Empire: Total War and... the Highlander game come out.

  • Excellent video, these games were fantastic. Did you ever play Legend of Kyrandia 2: Hand of Fate? That was one of my favourite point-and-click games.

  • No but the name rings a bell. There were actually quite a lot of point and clickers I intended to play but never did. The Kings Quest series to name just one.

  • Shame on you :p

The kyrandia series is just awesome.

  • I've heard you talk of this game before, but now you've inspired me to play it! Though, where is part 2 of the review? For multiple parters, the best thing to do is to upload them private and when they're all processed, make them public. That way, people who watch them early don't have to wait for the rest.

  • Part two will be uploaded in the next couple of days. Wanted to space them out intentionally. Since I decided to do two parts for YouTube instead of cutting it to hell for one, I'm going to be spending some time perfecting the next part.

  • This was the first game i ever played. It means a hell of a lot to me as well.

I have fond memorys of playing through the fists path with my brother when i was 4 years old.

  • loving it so far 5* :D

  • OMG, I love this review. Starting with MI and explaining adventures, the interactive intro, Iceland, Tikal...all the important things are covered. 5 stars.

  • Thanks. Originally I was going to cut a whole lot out for YouTube but decided that I just couldn't lose anything when reviewing this game so made it two parts.

  • That game had a really great start, never played it but you presented it really well.

  • fate of atlantis ftw! i loved that game so much. funny thing is when you get the choice to go team wits or fists i always assumed it was a psuedo choice and you had to have sophia with you. until years later when i found out you could actually make a true choice lol.

  • For years I had no idea you could do anything other than sucker punch your enemies because back in those days I didn't read the manual and you had to press "f" to switch the keyboard fighting on.

  • yeah i always pressed 0 and knocked them out in 1 hit (except for arnold of course).

  • This is the best review ive seen so far out of any reviews Ive watched. I may be a bit biased and unexperienced, but this was a fantastic review. Although... you have just left me wanting more. I am an impatient person! o.o

  • I WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The longly awaited video! =)
