A good movie incorporates some form of each genre in it, comedy, action, horror, ect.

A great movie does this to the extent where it touches you inside.

@iBonje actually LOTR is more of a book than a movie. there's still down-sides to the movies, most of them being the absence of scenes in the book. the best movie trilogy is probably Toy Story.

@lalistqm well the "imagination and central story" was taken from the books. the writing of the story wasn't part of movie production and can't be creditet to it except for the changes made from the book. while in toy story there was no book. the "imagination and central story" was part of the movies' production.

@TheJayman213 that's the point, is not easy to produce a movie based on a book like LOTR because the book is too complex, that's why I say it's better, it isn't an easy work to read the books again and again, and analize them to produce a movie about it, think about the mitic places and people that tolkien make in his books, now try to reproduce them on a moovie... then is easier to design a story when you know you'll make a movie about it...

@lalistqm that's a good point but the books describe the places so well that it's not hard to recreate them. and the descriptions are usually compressed instead of being mixed with the plot. i can remember everytime a new character or a place was introduced there was a whole paragraph just describing it before it went on with the plot.

and creating your own story is still more work than recreating someone else's.
