when metal became someting so... so... i don`t now the word.. hate all those pinguin suit guys having champagne and caviar... feel like a sir tipe of mother fuckers... thats not metal... fuck this shit... lemmy most be in some bar drinking jack daniels and smoking some marlboros with real people...
Lars says it himself Metallica now is what Jason wanted it to be, playing the old stuff that the fans wanted, going back to their roots, it's just sad Jason wasn't on Death Magnetic or St. Anger because i love the man
Jason = best Metallica Bassist in my opinion. There first two albums with Jason were amazing, I didn't really like that many Songs when Cliff was about; Only 4 springs to mind. Rob so far seems to do fine, Death Magnetic is a good album, having a couple of great songs. But for me, When Jason was in Metallica, they had the most amount of 'favorites' for me =)
That is why I have always respected Jason Newsted. He is a very humble man, with such a great deal of talent, and he doesn't act like a fucking douche about it. I hate that he left MetallicA...but I get it. I'm just glad he is still heavily involved in music. It's a fucking shame him and Zakk Wylde still aren't playing with Ozzy...those must have been some incredible fucking shows right there. I know he is one of the big reasons I picked up a bass...\mm/
@Duhello88 Metallica Invited Jason Newsted for the Hall of fame.
They also invited Dave Mustaine, but he said no. (you can see he whine about it in a vid somwhere around.) But Rob is still the bass player in Metallica, Jason was just invited, cus' he was a part of them, and had huge influence to Metallica and their fans.
@Duhello88 well, how are you gonna give Metallica a rock and roll hall of fame induction without Jason's contributions? James, Lars and the rest of the band agreed that Jason should most definitely be included this honor. Rob was included and so was Cliff. (His dad was there for Cliff)
He's exactly right about PTD. I haven't been on tours as large as he has (or even close to them) but it's so true that the audience is what provides that adrenaline rush. If you're on, and the fans are into it, and you're into it, there is no drug that could allow you to feel as good as you do on stage with those fans backing you. It's why we play music in front of people. Jason is a musician's musician and a real person.
Fuckin' Jason Newsted, man.In the entire interview starting at 1:00 he seemz to speak so real and from the heart. I alwayz figured him to be a very down to earth human being with his feet planted firmly on the ground but even more so now from watching this vid. Of all the would-be musicianz that are just as good, better or more famous than he, if I had a choice of who I could spend a little time with and just shoot the shit about music and life, I'd choose Mr. Newsted! I like the way the thinks!
It's fairly easy to tell that he's an intellectual person, and I think that is a very good quality about him, or anyone. It definetly adds to the list of reasons why he's one of my main inspirations in music.
@largesam72 he's recovered he dislocated one arm. and tore his bicep completely from his right arm. and recovered nicely. he's currently doing art and playing music whenever he can.
@largesam72 Not that i know of, he may be doing little gigs. But he hasn't said much about going touring anywhere soon. So i guess all we can do is wait and see what he says.
hes the reason I picked up a guitar, and the thing that got me interested him the most from the get go was that we were both raised in the same town. would love to meet him
i totally fuckin agree if metallica were a band that formed in 2000 and it released st anger and that stuff you would not have the same respect for them that we do because of the albums cliff and jason put out with metallica so if you thikn otherwise your in fuckin denial
he is a great guy, and his decisions took balls... also the way he put it, scoping on himself rather than saying ''im in a band with a puerile midget, a drunken redneck and a creepy voiced narco dude...and they're control freaks'' ... LOTS of love for jason, as he inspired me for years and years, not only to pick up bass and learn to play it but also through the beautiful message of keepin focus on your goals and try to minimize the bullshit around it.
huuuuuuu. jason why did you do it. I may not play bass but it is easy to see that you are the one eho along woth cliff helped to shape metallica to what the are today
I dont blame Metallica or Jason. If it wouldnt black ice, Cliff Burton would still be their bassist. If it werent for Jason, Metallica would not be here now. Jason needed to leave, he would have always been treated as the new guy. He had to replace Cliff Burton and you cant do that. It was a lot easier for Rob to replace Jason, and hes accepted now by Metallica more than Jason would ever be.
It still pisses me off that Jason is no longer in Metallica. Rob's a great guy, but Jason fitted better in metallica. They lost a lot of bad ass attitude when he walked. Pity James couldn't have accepted that he'd been a dick during that time, and asked jason back. I'm sure Jason never wanted to leave, he just had no choice given Hetfield's My way or the highway stance.
The night Jason showed up at the Sacred Reich show in San Francisco was amazing. It was the one and only time I met him. He is good friends of Sacred Reich. He went backstage for a while but for most of the night he was out on the floor hanging out and constantly signing autographs. I got one myself. It's so nice to meet someone of his stature who considers himself a fan of music just like we are a fan of his. There was absolutely no rock star attitude in him, he was so down to earth and cool.
Back in the Bay Area thrash scene, bands were required to sell a certain amount of tickets in order to play the clubs. If you were a new band people where reluctant to buy tickets and most of the times it would come out of the bands pockets. At a Sacred Reich show in San Francisco, Jason shows up and my friend, who's in a band, asks if he would like to buy a ticket to his show. Jason says I don't know if I could make it, but I'll take10 tickets anyway to support the local bands. Awesome guy.
Its weird, He seems to be the only one that hasn't aged in any way. I find the rest of the guys in Metallica are kind showing there age, Hetfield has a family and Lars as well. They've matured from the "WAKE UP FUCK!!!!" stage attitude sadly. I miss the good old days.
The time that he spent with me meant more to me than anything else. As it turns out Ozzy was sick that evening and was unable to perform (it was more like Kornfest) but I didnt even care. That little amount of time that I spent with him made it more than worthwhile...........ROCK ON JASON !!!!!!!!!!
I had the chance to meet Jason Newsted during the 2003 Ozzfest tour in WA state. I belive this footage was shot swomewhere on the same tour. He was a really down to earth cool guy to hang with. He didnt have any of the pompass rock star attitude. He acted like someone that could be your neighbor. The funny thing is everything he says in this footage is true. I do show off the autogaphed pics and tell the stories of when I got to meet him.
glad to see there is still ppl who can tell a gd bassist from a bullshit bassist,,,,,,i saw a comment the other day on a video of metallica for a poser saying that robert is better than JASON and CLIFF,,,,,wished u were there mate!
