  • It just occurred to me. You won't ever be able to go to a public bath or a hot spring? Is that even acceptable for a gaijin to do?

  • Are the gyms co-ed?

  • I did Aikido here in Canada for about 7 years and they expected us to come even when we were hurt and stay on the side and watch...(big turn off for a lot of people here)

I guessing Martial Art class in Japan aren't a good place to socialize to ? (at least not during the class, like people do here)

Do Martial Art class in general cost a lot in Japan ?

  • Do they have Wing Tsun in Japan...I know it sounds contradictory.

  • will hot springs care if you use the springs at night if they are a hotel with hot springs?

  • thats so cool that japan likes ALF too :D

  • I pay for NHK, I am willing to, but strange thing is NHK collect guy is still coming to my house once in a while... suspect some of them who come to door might be fake ones?? So dont pay at the door right away! know you wont tho :P Anyway, I love NHK channels alot!! such as GArdening show in sunday mornings, Cooking class show, Language class show(now I watch the Spanish and Russian ones), and Bilingual news at night and Puppet show for kids hehe and and... am so in love with NHK

  • So basically if you have a tattoo you can't get in the hot springs? That's fucking dumb.

  • NIPPON CHU CHU

    DOG!

    ASH GALA WONDERFUL

We are the wad of dough...

    We didn't eat Q, Q ,Q ,Q, O O O O ...

    I!

  • If the NHK collectors would come to my door and knock on it. I open the door they see the T.V. on and working perfectly fine they say oh we need 3,000 yen I'd be like the T.V. broken they say no its not it working look. I'd say one moment please come back with a baseball bat and break the t.v. and yell "Well now it is"

    XD

  • I would like to learn martial arts in Japan and living there some months but i dont know japanese.. its that possible? maybe a martial art camp or gym when teachers talks english?

  • Aha! Found it! Interesting. How about cardio, such as running or jogging?

  • like can you run on the sidewalk? sure - the sidewalks are endless here. just be warned that you will be stared at the entire time. or at least i do.

  • Awesome. People already stare at me cause im like 193 cm tall and 10 cm broad, both ways...And I got weird shoes lol

For some reason Japan and Sweden seems alot alike in many aspects, it seems that I wouldnt have much trouble fitting right in

  • @unrested

work out with sunglasses and a load of clothes on? haha might work

  • u follow DREAM? i dont watch as much (youtube, never been to japan) since i think PRIDE had some of the best fighters ever.

what is the japanese perception on the UFC? and do you think k1 and mma in japan has burst its bubble of popularity?

i dont follow boxing at all, but what was the japanese reaction to the billy dib vs Kenichi Yamaguchi fight?

  • I'm curious about your gym activity. You say you workout 5 times per week in these gyms. What's the purpose? Just for health, or do you play some sort of sport and so need the strength, speed, etc.? You mentioned about martial arts, does it have to do with that?

I've also heard Japanese food can be healthier than the Western food. Do you agree, and do you eat more Japanese food than Western?

  • i box. i want to do mma but i dont have the time and i probably have the worst kick known to all mankind.

japanese food is definitely waay healthier. almost no additives and extremely low cals on average. i.e. the average american eats about 4000 cals a day where as the average japanese person eats 2100.

  • So the workouts are to train for the boxing? Hmm.

Thanks for confirming what I thought about the food. Do you like it more than Western food?

  • hmm i dont think i can say i like it better. nor can i say i like western food more.

i have favorites from both. i will say japan in general is only good for japanese food. they usually fail miserably when attempting non-native dishes.

  • Thanks for the answer.

  • have u tried going to a martial arts dojo unrested?

and whats your fav Martial Art?

  • actually only boxing. i love k1 but i am the worst at kicking in the entire universe. its a fact.

  • I like to give out some words to the wise about Martial Arts in Japan. First off most dojo's dont accept gaijin's out right. It helps if you have a japanese friend or family memeber thats a member already. Second be pre-paired to take a lotta shit from instructors and other students. The training is much more intense but also they want to haze you also.

  • again....great advice! i just go to an itsie bitsie gym close to my apartment. almost zero free weights though...that sucksz!!

  • my gym is ghetto as hell. no a/c even but loads of free weights because the owner use to be a pro bb. i am almost up to 80kg now and as soon as i hit that its a cut down to 3 percent bf. ooooohh yeah baby!

  • The thing I HATE as hell in Japan is certainly the TV there is sooooo much advertising I am watching TV Tokyo & Asahi, and there is an advertising atleast each 15 minutes they cut the programme without warning and BAM shitty ad for your face!

  • Nice FAQ, as always ^_^

  • i dont have a tv?. yea i dont think they would buy that. change the n in your shit to a H "HUEVOS" haha

  • well actually its not that unbelievable. most japanese do nto have cable tv out here and if you dont there are only about 6 channels to watch. also most japanese work 60 plus hours a week so they dont always have time to sit around watching the tube. most are just happy to have a quite family dinner and enjoy one anothers company at night.

  • 60. counting weekdays

  • yeah weekdays. although most have to work saturday as well. most of my friends work 80-120 hours a week. not even exaggerating. i.e. my gf works 9am to 9pm on tuesdays.

  • in my first comment i meant shirt

  • no worries i understood lol.

  • Lol @ the irony of a videogame developer owning a chain of gyms.

I heard that not many young people work out in gyms in Japan. Most are elderly people. Is this true? And how expensive are the privately owned gyms, compared to the US?

    Good FAQ man.

  • yeah you are right, but its becoming more popular with younger people little by little.

you are also right about the elderly. any gym i have gone to has loads of old people but there is a huge gray generation here so no big surprise i suppose.

private gyms are about 100 bucks. yeah expensive but everything in japan is.

  • Very good video, I am impressed you understand Japan thinking well.

  • thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. i am glad to hear this comment from a native of japan as i dont get as much feedback from japanese as to what they think about the videos i make about their country.

  • here we have to pay a fee for the "free public broadcasting" channels=p and its 53200 yen=P if you dont your not allowed to have a TV=P

  • haha what?! gotta love that. can ask where abouts this is?

  • Norway

  • ifukuyomama

  • yes, that is how I pronounce it as well.

  • how often do the collectors come to harass you?

  • i probably get one every 3 months . so nothing too bad. i usually just use the call box, but if it comes to me answering the door they back down alot quicker.
