I'M A BLUESMAN, I CAN SAY WITHOUT RESERVES THAT THIS IS THE BEST BLUES SONG EVER MADE...!!! NO ORCHESTRAL VERSION OF ANY TYPE OF BLUES , CAN COMPARE TO THIS...!!! THIS IS SIMPLY THE BEST BLUES SONG EVER MADE...!!!
Might be good to mention this is a cover of James Taylor's song released in 1970. Pretty funny lyrics, apparently James was satirizing the blues songs at that time. This is a short version of Taylor's song though. Fits Elvis's style...0:18...lol.
I really, deeply and honestly can't understand how can be people out there who doesn't like this.... (the 6 of you how dislike, you're in my black list!!!!)
These videos mix the two Hawaii concerts: the live via satellite one and the practice run the night before. This song is from the night before, not from the live transmission.
I went to the last Elvis concert in Baton Rouge in May of 1977. He was overweight, but man could he ever sing. The only song he did not do was American Trilogy that night. By far the greatest entertainer and singer that let drugs get the best of him. Miss him and his singing. RIP Elvis.
This is not one of Elvis better songs. I still love him though. James Taylor did it much better. I guess that's because JT wrote it. But I sure miss the King. Saw Elvis in concert in Auburn AL in the 70's. Put on a great show!!!!
Steamroller Blues es un clásico en todo el sentido de la palabra y con el acompañamiento de James Burton él no podía fallar !!! Exceptional my favorite Elvis ´s song.
@view2mom I saw him in concert at the Richfield Colosseum Cleveland Ohio in Feb of 1975 I believe, over weight or not he put on one hell of a show, unforgettable
@view2mom It is from 1973 - but "theElvisZone" is completely wrong about the date; this footage is from January 12 (although the audio could very well be from January 14th)
@view2mom come on baby, 1973 watched by over 1 billion. The KING OF ROCK & ROLL. Saw him in Vegas in 69, Kissed by the KING, a moment I will never forget
@view2mom Acually this is the rehearsal concert Elvis did in Hawaii. Date: January 12th 1973. He also did this song in the actual broadcast two days later, on the 14th.
Sorry, totally disagree with your correction of my use of the word "music". Elvis made "music with his voice", James Taylor wrote this "music" and these are two of the poets who summed up the meaning of the word "music": [Lord Byron] - "music is the universal language of mankind" and [John Keats] - "the speech of angels".
Boringly, perhaps,I have no negative comments or swearing to add :-)) Just will say, if Elvis sang it, it's tops IMO. His music never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for upload.
James Taylor's version is waaaaaay better, and waaaaay less Hawaii and vegas.... Which btw is what makes it better! Elvis was a hack at this point. Sorry to say...
@kissrev1 Elvis and Taylor both did fine with this item. Presley's version DOES feature James Burton, only one of the best rock & roll guitarists of all-time.
@MrSf66 Fair enough.... How does this vindicate Elvis himself from his lack of creativity, musical talent, and general self-serving mediocrity? BTW I am not disputing your veneration of a guitar player, James Burton, who is, if anything a footnote in R&R history, but if that is your argument,... not so strong.
@kissrev1 As a singer, Presley managed to encompass the entire spectrum of American music. Granted, his career choices entailed a fair share of mediocrity, but I would argue that THE SUN SESSIONS, more than a few of his singles, ELVIS IS BACK, the sitdown jam sessions of 1968, and FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS are all sterling examples of his musical talent and creativity. The Hawaii shows of 1973 were indeed the apex of his "Vegas" phase and were also impressive albeit overblown.
@kissrev1 James Taylor? Ok, he can write a song. I respect your opinion... But I have not heard one James Taylor song (his voice) that excites me. Not one! Live? I would be asking for my money back if I was forced to pay for a ticket... I often read comments like "James Taylor's version is also great". Too many people here are too afraid to state their real feelings. James Taylor is boring!!! I expect repercussions...
@aud10ph1le I should also note that Taylor played this song more aggressively in later years (late 70's onwards). He must have known the Elvis version was vastly superior...
@aud10ph1le Taylor's version was both a good acoustic blues and a wry parody of the whole bluesrock machismo thing. Elvis dispensed with those subtleties and rocked the house. Both good records!
This is not a record of 14 January but on 12 January, it shows on the hair of Elvis, his forelock falls across his forehead, while January 14, it is better wearing, and his face is resplendent .
For this show, there were 2 concerts, a concert rehearsal January 12, 1973, which was filmed as a precaution in case there is a problem with the satellite and the concert on January 14, 1973, broadcast live Worldvision except the USA where he was released with a different layout and songs stored on site without an audience, added to the installation of landscape with films on screens.
Just did this Elvis song May 22, 2011. You kind of have to let all that you have rip through this style of song....if you cover it, don't hold "nothing' back.
i bet james taylor never thought his song would be sung and performed like this when he wrote it. long live the king!!!!!!!!!! greatest entertainer ever
@chefykins1 james taylor coulnt sing for shit yo! Elvis were mad better as a singer n did this song mad better n taylor bo'tard! Get the f offa a the Ezones vids er show respect for the proper King, Elvis yo! Word, yur annoying n when yu talk crap like that here yur no more than a troll.
@TubeGunner - Sorry, but have to disagree. The brilliant rehearsal Steamroller Blues and Fever 'kick the ass' of the so-called 'live' or official versions. In the rehearsal versions, he is relaxed and playing them with passion. He was clearly nervous in the latter versions. I've seen both concerts over 100 times. The 'live' versions of Fever and Suspicious Minds were particularly bad (by Elvis standards). He was no longer at his performance peak (1968-70). Voice was always great, even in '77.
@aud10ph1le I've seen/heard both a couple hundred times myself. Elvis is plenty relaxed in the official version of this - even kissing a girl at the start. In my book the band is in a better blues groove and tone, and after the guitar break Elvis' voice on the high notes is easily more controlled and smooth. In the "rehearsal" show, he's relaxed alright. He can't even remember the lyrics on a couple songs. This show comes off as it was - a rehearsal. He screws up not once in the official show.
Elvis, the "HOTTEST" man who ever lived. LOL! When he crinkles up that nose and snarls it makes a girl go crazy. He knows it too and does it on purpose. What a tease. ♥
yeah..you blow my mind baby!!!..Roll all over me Elvis...PLEASE!! iF I CAN'T HAVE YOUR LOVE NOW BABY,THERE WON'T BE NOTHIN' LET BEHIND...LOVE YOU!..Elvis always Baby!! xoxo
This is what Blew My Mind,,, When El sent this to the top of charts, it took maybe 15-20 years when I found the writer was James Taylor. Go Figure and whats more it was not released on a mainLP but on James's Greatest Hits AND you gotta check that one out. Be sure to listen all the through. It surprised me.
@upperdarbybill Actually - the song was on Taylor's second album, "Sweet Baby James" and was written tongue in cheek as a joke about all the new "blues artists" coming out of the woodwork in the early 70's.
@bugsycline bugsy hah? never herd of you. there's a reason for that elvis never clamed to right the songs he sang . but none of the people on your home channel had a problem with him doing there songs. so why do you. is it mayby you deep down invy the man? i think so he sold more records than all those people on your channell combined. so go run up a tree there ink spots...

The king was the greatest,,,,truely a legend.....seen a fella in canada,,,maybe a new king in the makin,,,see andy probyn video,,,one he lies too,,,,,,,,,,,,,way cool
I didn't know there was a single Elvis song that I had never watched him sing. Steamroller Blues is entirely new to me. I always love every performance of Elvis although he disappointed me that he did not follow in the Christian footsteps of his mother.

I didn't know there was a single Elvis song that I had never watched him sing. Steamroller Blues is entirely new to me. I always love every performance of Elvis although he disappointed me that he did not follow in the Christian footsteps of his mother.
