  • shitty tone at the beginning, best approach if you have the right kinda money, go with Ibanez Prestige RG2228 with emg 808s, Mesa boogie head and a Orange cabinet with axe fx2 cant go wrong with that setup =)

  • deftones!

  • I dunno, man. I get seven strings, but eight? There's a point where you have to think, "Should I be playing a bass instead?" I mean, the lowest string is F# right? Isn't that just a whole step away from the high E on a bass?

  • @zdkezios Actually, it's a whole step away from the low E on a bass. For me, that's the point. I started out playing bass and moved to the guitar, but sometimes I still feel like I'm missing those lows in a riff or solo. This is a great instrument if you have a need to switch between bass and guitar roles (if your bassist has poor practice attendance like mine), if you want to be an all-encompassing solo performer, or just if you want to double up on the bass with a different tone.

  • So these eight string guitars don't tend to blow the speakers on normal guitar amps if you crank the amp up with a lot of distortion?

  • deftones song ftw

  • Rocket Skates!!!! \m/

  • What is the access to the higher frets like on this guitar? The low tones are sounding brilliant, just concerned about the highs

  • might as well use a bass amp with a distorion pedal

  • Tuning?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Andy, Do you take song requests? I'd love to hear you play a song like "Hybrid Rainbow" or "Last Dinosaur" by The Pillows in a future demo!

  • No Meshuggah? D:

  • Uhhh, Deftones, sweeeeet. I've never watched the metal guitar demos, but turns out that Scotty plays some cool tunes, have to keep an ear out for these from now on.

  • Djentify that unit!

  • just ordered one of these yesterday. now i wont be able to sleep till it gets here. just have to keep looking at videos of it lol. thanks for shipping it out so fast guys

  • Yeah Rocket Skates!!!

  • Wow, that thing looks more like a harp.

  • this would go pretty nicely with my damien elite 7

  • it just aint the same whitout andys cool overview withe the specs and facts

  • Deftones men !

  • DEFTONES!

  • holy shit 8 strings thats crazy.

  • If it just wasn't bolt-on...

  • Needs more Djent

  • i miss the voice description :(

  • Deftones! Rocket Skates.

  • liked the clean stuff

  • its really not my style, but i'd love to try one out :)

  • Somehow I knew before I watched the video that it was gonna be a Deftones song off Diamond Eyes for the intro haha

  • Just a tip,not trying to be a youtube "backseat driver" or anything, but turn down the mids next time,it tightens up the low end and gets rid of some of that mud,the 8th string doesnt seem to like mids.Other than that great guitar and great demo.

  • why 8 strings?

  • @nickcg why not?

  • @nickcg more diversity

  • i thnk an 8 string guitar would be perfect for some walking bass or maybe SLAP bass jazz style???

  • because of this video i m gonna buy a 7 or 8 string.... my money hate s you ;D

  • if you do a lot of bends etc does it stays well in tune?

  • Meshuggah!!!!!

  • hey my name is damien, does that mean i can go to the store and just grab it?

  • deftones. one of the best.

  • Scotty looks a little like James Hetfield doesn't he?

  • GUNS!!!! RAZORS!!! KNIIIIIIIIIIVVEESSSS!!!!! WOO!

  • @thereddwarf2

It's not fender amps, they're using an orange rockerverb. It sounds great anyway..

  • @RandomGuitarist96 for clean tone; well, I would say yes. But for metal riffs on a 8 strings, sorry but no :$ Hear a Axe Fx and tell me then which one sounds the best :P

  • i wish my hand were big enough for a baby like that!

  • I made the jump to 7 strings in niovember 2009, 8 strings might be a bit of a stretch, but who knowa what I might decide in the future, it's nice to know i'll have sme options.

  • Not really into metal but that was awesome!! That secobd song was great!!!

    What tuning is it in??

  • Fender amps just do NOT like anything with more than 6 strings.

Might wanna get an axe-fx in on this one guys!

  • @BaphometStudios No Fenders being used on this one. That was an Orange Rockerverb.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos that explains a lot

  • @BaphometStudios i use a blues deluxe reissue with 7 and 8 strings and it sounds fine..

  • @BaphometStudios i have a fender mustang 5 150 watt solidstate half stack. play with a 7 string and it sounds phenomenal. sooo id say you are wrong on that one.

  • Disappointed by the lack of djent..

  • Wicked guitar. I'll stick to my Loomis sig for now though, 7 strings'll do.

  • What equipment did you use in this video? I mean what pedals, amps?

  • what kind of distortion are ya runnin' through?

  • Awesome tone, 8-string guitars are not that common.

  • I think Scotty should own this guitar and get it re-named to Schecter Scotty

  • everything looked much more appealing with the red cloth background.

  • @Antilevitation Yep. Our competitors liked it so much that they copied us! So we decided to change it up.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Are you being intentionally vague or can you say who your competitors are? I'm curious.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos then take blue one :D

  • Deftones!

  • beast

  • this guy plays hevy stuff, nice change

  • What about a review of the Schecter C1 Custom? Just love that guitar, and you guys rocks!!

  • What kind of gear has been used in this demo?

PGS hasn't sounded that brutal before. :O

  • @MrJesusCrisp - Thanks! We used a combination of an Orange Rockerverb 50 and a direct sound run through an amp simulator. The Rockerverb has a nice, aggressive midrange punch, while the DI captures the full low-end spectrum. Shake well, blend to taste.

    -PGS Crew

  • Scooootty :D

  • I love so much your reviews, PGS! I'm looking for more details on the Schecter C1 Custom, but I found only one or two serious soundclips....would you kindly do one of yours fantastic reviews on that guitar?

    You Rock Guys!

  • deftones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • middle song name? (clean)

  • 8 string things are cool. This thing, mandolins,..............this thing

  • The sound of the lower strings are... poopy. I think this would benefit from running a dual amp system.

  • @CrimsonEdge38 To clarify, I mean a guitar and bass amp, split right at the guitar.

  • DEFTONES FTW

  • I miss that red curtain....It really made the videos classier.

  • Sweet!!! Deftones!!! How much does it run for?

  • DEFTONES!!!!!

  • DEFTONES!!!!!

  • DEFTONES!!!!!

  • So this guitar is available only from PGS and nowhere else?

  • @SuperMegaMantus Yes, that is correct.

  • Djenty. I'm not a huge fan of the 8-string guitar myself, (As really, I'm a bassist and it kinda intrudes on my space in the band, haha.) But I like how this thing sounds clean, there's just so many possibilities from the clean sound to the more Metal stylings.

Just wish I'd hear more than either Metalcore chugchug or Tosin Anasi technical stuff with one of these, though. They'd probably be really good Doom metal or some sort of Atmospheric stuff.

  • I've played one of these. They're alright. I personally don't have much use for one. But the clean tones are pretty beautiful.

  • it is just me or does this seem like it has a shorter scale length than most 8 strings

  • @MrYungsan, it is a shorter scale length agile 8 strings are 28 to 30 inches

  • @jscottizabeast oh ok thanks

  • I used to think it would be cool to own one of these....but I realized im not good enough to really take advantage of it.

  • the only thing that pisses me off about lower range instruments is that there is this whole underlying "with being able to tune as low as a standard bass, who needs a bass player in the band?" deal... and as a bass player myself I just don't get it; it's completely egotistical, just because you can tune lower doesn't mean the bass can't, there's no limit to either so stop trying to take the damn spotlight lol

  • The thick profile neck on an 8 string has me worried.

Looks are amazing on the flipside

I wish Schecter would use these type bridges on their 7's.That would be so sexy.

  • Schecter. 8 Strings. Baritone Scale. That's all I need.

  • tosin abasi,robert conti...

  • not a big fan of the silver burst

  • i can't see the silverburst option on schecter's site :(

  • @serazac25 That's because the silverburst is a limited run exclusive to PGS.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos and i'm guessing its only for the Damien Elite, or you guys have other limited runs?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos So this guitar is available only from PGS and nowhere else?

  • Anyone who hates on eight strings should look up Tosin Abasi.

  • wow, thats the first time I've actually seen someone play real chords with a guitar like this.

    DM

  • I seen no use for this guitar until.....He did the clean stuff with the bass lines in a tasteful way. Since I play bass, all the sudden this is very interesting. I could play both on one instrument. I love their guitars and basses, but these names have to go...

  • Ive missed this dude

  • That last bit made me think of Zyglrox by Periphery. Great song.

  • Mandolins have 8 strings, but they're not NEARLY as cool!

  • @GuitarBlues3 The most brutal music I've ever heard has been played on mandolins. "Losing My Religion" is probably the heaviest song ever recorded.

  • 21 likes against 7 dislikes: a large percentage of PGS viewers are anti metal bigots :D

  • stupid question, but is this guitar named after the Omen?

  • dude this video of an 8 string guitar was released on the 8th day of the 8th month of the year... coincidence ? i think not!

  • proDJENTshopdemos

  • That thing is a ravenous beast!! =)

  • dont realy care for this. i have nothing against 7 or 8 strings, but an 8 string is pushing it for me. might use a 7 string to get a droped A tuning.

  • DEFTONES!!

  • 8 string awesomeness!!!

  • Having worked on 8s, they should be 28+ in scale and have MUCH thicker strings than what comes stock

  • its an 8 string, WHERE IS MR ABASI?

  • So is this plugged into a Fender Deluxe Ri? :-)

  • I'm yet to see an extra-string-bearing guitar that doesn't just look like a fat ass version of a 6 string.

  • Yeah... but can you play metal on it???

    Just kidding, rock on!

  • why not just play a baritone guitar at that point? i like the way it sounds though, im a bassist so im all for low end where ever possible. but what is the point where you'd want a baritone instead?

  • Hell yeah, Rocket Skates for the intro.

I'm actually looking to this guitar. I need an 8-string to handle my experimental jazz.

  • @itscoolbro2 Animals As Leader - CAFO :p

  • IT'S SILVER!

  • 1.2.3.4.5.6.7. EIGHT STRINGS!!! WOAHHAHHHHHH!!!

  • I think it's unfair to call something like this unnecessary. Some great music has been made using 8 string guitars. You can't pass it off as something for just metalcore breakdowns or even for just metal. You're only limited by your own imagination and creativity. If the music you hear in your head has a low F#, go ahead.

  • @22FretsIsNotEnough Agreed. 7 string guitars started as early as the Jazz music era, as far as I know.

  • @22FretsIsNotEnough couldnt have said it better if i tried. you sir, are dead on right

  • @22FretsIsNotEnough or hell, a low Eb, for that matter... haha.

  • @22FretsIsNotEnough "You're only limited by your own imagination and creativity." That is so true. And if you have imagination and are creative, do not limit yourself to others low imagination and creativity .. 10 no-sayers for every yes-sayer. Keep rockin'!

  • he's no Tosin Abasi

  • Sounded pretty cool clean :)

  • Was hoping for some Animals as Leaders stuff. LOL

  • rawrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :000000000000000000

  • YAY! Deftones!

  • DEFTONES 4 LIFE!!

  • 8 strings? Is there really any need? lol

  • @Satch7699 7 strings i can understand, but as far as i can see, there is no point to 8 strings...

  • @aektzis91 I tune mine up to B, and use a high A on the top. It's amazing for running scales.

  • @Satch7699

of course man! check out tosin abasi. the lowest string is not for low breakdown stuff but can also be used to extend chords and add nice low octaves to really fill things out

  • @Satch7699 yeah that's a good way to get rid of your bass player ! lol !

  • @Satch7699 Depends on how you put it to use really.

  • @Satch7699 Well, it gives you a wider tonal range. There's a demo on here of a kid playing a 9-string that's really sweet

  • YUK. Not even Jimmy could make that thing go away...he he.

  • Just buy a bass.

  • third?

  • Second.

  • second

  • second!

  • YEAHHHH!!! more schecters review! C-1 Custom plz.

  • 8 string, holy shit, who needs that?

  • First
