shitty tone at the beginning, best approach if you have the right kinda money, go with Ibanez Prestige RG2228 with emg 808s, Mesa boogie head and a Orange cabinet with axe fx2 cant go wrong with that setup =)
I dunno, man. I get seven strings, but eight? There's a point where you have to think, "Should I be playing a bass instead?" I mean, the lowest string is F# right? Isn't that just a whole step away from the high E on a bass?
@zdkezios Actually, it's a whole step away from the low E on a bass. For me, that's the point. I started out playing bass and moved to the guitar, but sometimes I still feel like I'm missing those lows in a riff or solo. This is a great instrument if you have a need to switch between bass and guitar roles (if your bassist has poor practice attendance like mine), if you want to be an all-encompassing solo performer, or just if you want to double up on the bass with a different tone.
Uhhh, Deftones, sweeeeet. I've never watched the metal guitar demos, but turns out that Scotty plays some cool tunes, have to keep an ear out for these from now on.
just ordered one of these yesterday. now i wont be able to sleep till it gets here. just have to keep looking at videos of it lol. thanks for shipping it out so fast guys
Just a tip,not trying to be a youtube "backseat driver" or anything, but turn down the mids next time,it tightens up the low end and gets rid of some of that mud,the 8th string doesnt seem to like mids.Other than that great guitar and great demo.
@RandomGuitarist96 for clean tone; well, I would say yes. But for metal riffs on a 8 strings, sorry but no :$ Hear a Axe Fx and tell me then which one sounds the best :P
I made the jump to 7 strings in niovember 2009, 8 strings might be a bit of a stretch, but who knowa what I might decide in the future, it's nice to know i'll have sme options.
@BaphometStudios i have a fender mustang 5 150 watt solidstate half stack. play with a 7 string and it sounds phenomenal. sooo id say you are wrong on that one.
@MrJesusCrisp - Thanks! We used a combination of an Orange Rockerverb 50 and a direct sound run through an amp simulator. The Rockerverb has a nice, aggressive midrange punch, while the DI captures the full low-end spectrum. Shake well, blend to taste.
I love so much your reviews, PGS! I'm looking for more details on the Schecter C1 Custom, but I found only one or two serious soundclips....would you kindly do one of yours fantastic reviews on that guitar?
Djenty. I'm not a huge fan of the 8-string guitar myself, (As really, I'm a bassist and it kinda intrudes on my space in the band, haha.) But I like how this thing sounds clean, there's just so many possibilities from the clean sound to the more Metal stylings.
Just wish I'd hear more than either Metalcore chugchug or Tosin Anasi technical stuff with one of these, though. They'd probably be really good Doom metal or some sort of Atmospheric stuff.
the only thing that pisses me off about lower range instruments is that there is this whole underlying "with being able to tune as low as a standard bass, who needs a bass player in the band?" deal... and as a bass player myself I just don't get it; it's completely egotistical, just because you can tune lower doesn't mean the bass can't, there's no limit to either so stop trying to take the damn spotlight lol
I seen no use for this guitar until.....He did the clean stuff with the bass lines in a tasteful way. Since I play bass, all the sudden this is very interesting. I could play both on one instrument. I love their guitars and basses, but these names have to go...
why not just play a baritone guitar at that point? i like the way it sounds though, im a bassist so im all for low end where ever possible. but what is the point where you'd want a baritone instead?

So these eight string guitars don't tend to blow the speakers on normal guitar amps if you crank the amp up with a lot of distortion?
