  • I wonder where is that dress and the fox head. That should go to the R & R museum in Cleveland. Unless there's another Rock museum in England. Is there one?

  • Unfortunately Pete's voice was shot at this concert.

  • What's the thing about the fox/red dress? I know and understand the others Peter's costumes... but why the foxy lady? Little Cynthia were really sexy? lol

  • @mayamoti That's a damn good question. Anyone know?

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite It's based on the image on the cover of Foxtrot. Gabriel decided to have the mask made and borrowed a dress from his wife Jill and sauntered out on stage in Dublin I believe. It was the first time he tried anything visual like that. The band had no idea he was going to do it and were initially against it. However, the subsequent media cover put Genesis on the front pages of the music press and the rest is history. A bold move that defined Gabriel era Genesis.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite As far as I know he just wanted to shock.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Yeah, he was inspired by the artwork on Foxtrot (which featured a fox in a red dress).

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite all i know it is on the cover of the Foxtrot album

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite In one of the Foxtrot interviews, Pete said that he wore it purely because it was on the album cover. Because it was the first costume, it didn't really have anything to do with the storyline. The costumes got more relevant and elaborate as time went on

  • @mayamoti --Peter did that to shock the audience and get publicity. Aftrer that gig they were on the cover of Melody Maker, I believe was the magazine....got them started onto what they have become today!!

  • @jalphonso2 oh, that was clever, but there is no meaning around the foxy red dress?

  • @mayamoti --No, other then get some attention. That worked for sure!! I just got tickets to see The Musical Box do the Lamb show down Atlantic City on May 11th!! Looking forward to that.

  • @jalphonso2 This will be epic! I wish they could go play it here in Brazil too!

  • @mayamoti --Have you ever seen The Musical Box? If not, I hope someday you can....they are fantastic.....

  • @jalphonso2 Saw them once, just last year. You are right, they're amazing. I heard people talking before how great they were, but I thought maybe they were been over hyped a bit. Then I read somewhere they use the same stage props from Genesis, and told myself, what the heck! And I went. No regrets at all. Thousands time better than what I've heard they were.

  • @mayamoti Yeah if you knew anything about Genesis, he dresses up like that because Supper's Ready is on Foxtrot and this is the only song where he is dressed up as a fox

  • @InterstellarOverdrve Pal, I only asked because I wanted to know, because I wanted to learn about it, I'm not here to a knowledge challenge. We're all fans here, we're all equal.

BUT so far I saw, heard and already learned, he used to use to perform The Musical Box (as you can see on this video and much others, I don't know if he used for another song also) which is from Nursery Cryme.

  • @InterstellarOverdrve (cont...) And also (again, so far I know, "excuse me" if "am I very wrong" - lol), the costumes of Supper's Ready are: The Flower, Magog and The White/Silver Man. In all performances of Supper's Ready that I saw (and it wasn't one or two), I never saw The Foxy Lady, only on The Musical Box.

  • @InterstellarOverdrve Peace bro!

  • @mayamoti The red dress is on the cover to "Foxtrot", as well as the head. Why is there is anyone's guess. Musical box is from the former vinyl "Nursery Cryme".

  • @mayamoti My apologies, didn't even read the whole question, but I saw on this interview that said that the band was trying to promote Foxtrot so Peter bought a foxes head/ mask to wear during the show. I still don't understand why he wears it during The Musical Box though

  • @mayamoti he was re-enacting the character from the front of the Foxtrot album

(encouraged by a conversation between Pete & their booking agent). The dress belonged to his wife Jill. Got him on the front cover of the music press next week.

  • thanks for making this FREELY available as it was intended - i agree with you about the guy selling this stuff - i thought i was the only person who thought that was out of order. p.s. i absolutely loved Yes playing watcher of The Skies wink wink - awesome stuff, spot on! I'd love to hear more of that

  • Genesis are really!!! an universal Band! Thank god for all it`s performers.

  • Not bad for a bunch of lads 22/23 years old

(I know, and the opportunity to properly capture some of each of the other players besides Gabriel was lost forever.)

  • @frenchylarrea estoy con vos pibe, ademas me jodio mucho el frances que traducioa, no me dejo escuchar nada de lo que dijeron peter y los muchachos.

  • in a dress

  • Who wants to touch a man with a dead fox head ?????? I dunno

  • @TheTwilightalehouse [Chuckle] Let's say you go to this concert for the first time - in fantasy does Gabriel intend/want us to KNOW it's a man in a dress? Or rather, THINK it is a woman in a dress? Or does he want us to look at it as *real world* - "hey I'm PG, a man in a dress. I just changed backstage." If had to, I'd rather touch the dress than the old man version

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite mmm I think that says more about you than Gabriel hehehehehe. Hey ever listened to tonto's expanding head band .Check my channel its on my home page think you might like it...cheers

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Hey what country r u in? ..The musical box are doing the lamb tour and i can recommend them....they are just like Genesis

  • @TheTwilightalehouse USA, San Diego, CA. By sheer coincidence I just saw TMB in L.A., CA in October for the first time. Thanks for the recommendation! It was among the 5 greatest things in my life. I never saw real Genesis, not even Collins-era.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Will they be touring again in socal any time soon?

I would like to check them out.

    best wishes

  • @SDsailor7 I'm afraid not - I want to go again - here is their website with tour dates: themusicalbox . net

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Thanks for the info..

    have a good day.

  • hey Bruford retired too so you are in good company

  • and long live Genesis

  • To Phil Collins please don't be sad post 2010 just watch this and know man you are a hero a idol

  • the spidey-grip pussy wipe at 4:07 !!!

  • @poplevi (laughing) You might be right, he IS saying: "get to know your...flesh". It sure looks like it. Thanks for calling this to our attention.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite ...dead on it...boobies, then cookie...Gabes is a beast

  • @poplevi DISTURBING!!!!!!!

  • @pixiewings1 Glad you liked. Thanks for commenting.

  • This is pure gold. Thank you and all of the Genesis fans.

  • Really raw sound.. No compressor on the voice, but sounds beautiful

  • @ErnieAndMaraboo Raw is the word. Like Peter's throat that night? It sure sounds painful, but I love this version the best..."take them to the new Jer-u-se-LEHHHM"(rasp). Thanks for writing.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Whoa! He must have ripped it out during the Apocalypse section. He sounded OK at the beginning of the piece. Certainly is rough by the end of the 25 min epic.!

  • @MikeyRB77 I had not thought about that; how it starts out without the need for throat spray but is rasp-city by the end.

  • Man Steve Hackett, guy does not get a lot of credit but his playing was way ahead of it`s time, almost metal. Tap and sweep technique years before it became the standard.

  • @scottysoxfan I'm like the world's worst beginner guitarist, but I have read what you are talking about about --- his techniques. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Thank you fro posting this classic show.

  • @scottysoxfan You're very welcome. But I'm just a conduit from a flowing online river. We should really thank the early, hardcore technoid Genesis fans who converted the footage and uploaded the bootlegs to Bit Torrents and/or Rapidshare-type download sites from which I got this. Tens (100s?) of thousands have benefited from their obsessive, dedicated work and would have never seen it otherwise.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite what a poser

  • Yeah the Bataclan was top outside of England back then

  • Can't believe the philistines cut out Tony Banks finest moment in Apocalypse in 9/8

  • @paulwiffen I know I know. This kind of thing always makes me wonder if there is footage that was cut out still available somewhere, lost or otherwise.

  • Phil Collins really knew how to bang the skins!

  • @Jitpring That's for sure. Prog Rock drumming is so different from, say, Black Sabbath or some "regular" rock band. Thanks for writing.

  • 18:09 Phil is TEXTING his missus!...yes i know the phone would have to be the size of a mellotron them days!

  • @enviousfred Laughing...Yes he's texting alright , but of course there were no wirelesses back then, so if you look closely you will see a thin telephone cord running behind the high hat (With apologies to Alexander Graham Bell.) Thanks for commenting, I got a kick out of it.

  • Hi everybody. Please welcome, my cover! Serch "Behind the lines/duchess cover by pino lettieri " ENJOY MY TRIBUTE!

    pl

  • Shut the hell up guy speaking different language. I wish I knew how to edit that bullshit out.

  • I love the Fox costum :D

  • nice quality, thanks... repeat comment about the annoying Frenchies GGrrrr

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite That's cool. It was a joke.

  • I can't believe that someone could fit 4 Genesis songs in 32 minutes!

  • @eddie160994 Well of course --- it's because the middle of Supper's Ready was chopped out by the original source (...not by me). You knew that, right?

  • There is a great deal of peter worship in the various videos but if you ever saw a whole show Hacket and Collins who were the most impressive.

  • what they (Genesis) did was awesome, great, superb...and maybe difficult to repeat. Don't be afraid my friends, perhaps the new coming crisis will bring this kind of music again. Creativity is not dead,,, just sleeping...

  • Only raw brutal idiots and paparazzi try to get people boxed in and hit THEIR BUILDglass wall of crude injustice! Untill they die, like they have to and will.

The sooner the better. The Harder the more efficient...it's all that closer to the bad they choose to spread and to bring to people.

  • @kjallesoft .......what?

  • Only raw brutal idiots and paparazzi try to get people boxed in and hit THEIR BUILDglass wall of crude injustice! Untill they die, like they have to and will.

The sooner the better. The Harder the more efficient...it's closer to who the bad they choose to spread.

  • What does Tony say at 18:09?

In fact, what do they say in the entire interview? Silly French overdub ruining this gem of an interview.

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday I can't make it out (18:09). But now you have me curious. I am going to go listen carefully, and also run the audio through a speech recognition software. Whatever I find out, I will contact you in the next few days with a transcript.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Thanks! :)

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday From user "smiley69" URL: goo(dot)gl/Xy4jS "...is hilarious on the Bataclan interview...Peter gabriel is asked if he's insprired by Alice Cooper and David Bowie for his theatrical show. And he replies very seriously that he has seen 17 movies of Alice Cooper to learn all his tricks and that he has also lived three years with David Bowie. As the other members keep quiet, it seems that the journalist takes all this very seriously and believes him..."

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday This writer thought it was true!: [Short URL] goo(dot)gl/6zR7L "...interview Gabriel states debts to Bowie and Cooper, both of whom he claims to have studied closely; of Bowie as “living with for three years”. And...says he watched 17 films of Alice Cooper performances so that he can now copy his stage moves “almost exactly”. In another portion of the interview he modifies this by saying that he’s not very good at imitating either Cooper or Bowie, but “I do my best”. Ha

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday start thinking that there are many more languages than one, and you will enjoy life a lot more believe me, there`s much more in the world when you open your mind. -My opinion, I`d listen to yours. LOVE PEACE AND UNITY

  • @LimandoeelSerrucho Thank you, but I understand that; I was just saying that most Genesis fans don't know French, English being the most universally known language, so I figure most people would love to hear the English instead of a French overdub that they can't understand. But who knows? Maybe I'll learn French one day and figure it out myself. :)

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday :) yes! I didn`t understand your real meaning, sorry. Have a good life! regards from madrid. thanks for answering

  • @GettingEmOutByFriday If you indeed decide to learn French, use Fluenz instead of Rosetta Stone. Fluenz is infinitely better. Go to the Fluenz site.

  • i heard that in this exact song of the musical box when peter puts on the costum was the first time peter put on a costum on stage for a genesis song, is it true?

  • @eliteturtle47 According to Google-searching "genesis gabriel first costume", no. The first time was the red dress/fox in Dublin, Ireland Sep 28 1972. Gabriel couldn't help it if he became the centerpiece/focus of the band as indicated by the fans, and some people almost thought of Genesis as The P. Gabriel Band. That is of course an unfortunate situation because each of them were God-level gifted alone and together. BUT, any of them COULD have donned a costume if they wanted to. Fu*k PG haters.

  • @eliteturtle47 youtube.com/watch?v=7tYyqf0KJWY

  • PG is the master of Prog.

  • @SlitMouthWoman Thanks a lot for commenting. Amen, sister. You have said everything that needs to be said. Bam.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite Lol,I'm a guy.

  • @SlitMouthWoman Oops. Sorry about that (rolling on the floor laughing). Of course! your "handle" could be the name or description of a woman. For example, a male Doors fan that uses the handle L.A. Woman. My big bad. Rewind. Let me try that again: "Amen, brother".

  • IF PETER WANTED TO PLAY DRUMS AND KEYS, WHY DID'NT HE JUST DO IT ?!!! GREAT STUFF,THANKS!!!

  • @ksjoyjespeace Thanks for taking the time to write. I don't get your Comment but I want to: PG and drums and keyboards? Regardless, you are very welcome.

  • @PalerShadeOfWhite What I mean is : Peter played flute, tambourine and occasional bass drum prior to 1975 when he left Genesis,it's been said that he wanted to play keyboards/synths and drums on "The Lamb" tour,I'm guessing it was way before that, and friction between him and Tony about keys ?! He said : " I walked right out of the machinery" in "Solisbury Hill" , so ....

  • Must have been amazing to have been in that audience. Even PG's voice cracking is wonderful. Fantastic stuff, thanks PSofW!

  • @chinatree1 Thanks for your Comment. Yes. I actually love this version of Supper's Ready WITH Gabriel's tortured voice and scowling sepulchral vulture-like stare the best---like: The petulant, pouty British boy's voice and look [14:56] "...shedding ever changing COL-OURS..." and [15:59] "...take them to the new JERU-SAL-AAAAHHHM"! Would make a great commercial for Chloraseptic throat spray!

  • Excellent!!!*****

    Thank you! :)

  • @makissoflife Thanks. You're welcome as always. ;-}

  • Touch me!! Touch me!! Touch me now! Now! Now!

  • @PLATOON72 Only if you wear the red dress...

  • hahahahahahah

    How many memories :)

  • @PLATOON72 Seriously, thanks for speaking up. ;-} "I love Comments..." Great to hear from you again. Take care. G'Nite from Calif.
