  • MR AnDerson

  • interesting

  • So very very fucking interesting

  • The only explainable way to access the fourth dimension is DEATH. simply being removed from the dimension we now know by nature, and placed in the new one. a fresh start almost

  • What the actual fuck. My mind is blown.

  • So the voices I hear in my head are from the 4th dimension??

  • Someone has been smokin the peace pipe.

  • @forinner very true thats something im willing to believe, as long as religion stays out of it.

  • "Smoke weed everyday!"

    -Carl Sagan

  • if spirits and other paranormal creatures exist, they may be in the 4th dimension. as mentioned by the person above, the 2d square thought he could hear voices. so are ghosts in the 4th dimension?

  • The presentation was good but the only thing wrong is where the square looks DOWN at flatland. They don't know the UP-DOWN so it is false. Everything else is pretty good.

  • I dont know why but now i am suddenly amazed by what dementions can do... I used to not give a shit.

  • haha ...he´s awesome ;) * Love Light *

  • he sounds like Hugo Weaving. (agent smith in the Matrix and Elrond in Lord of the Rings)

  • Tell me this, (correct me if I'm wrong), if we can understand the size and shape of a three dimensional shape based on its conversion into two dimensional form, shouldn't we be able to roughly understand the form of the four dimensional tesseram or whatever it is called based on the three dimensional model he describes in the video? Or at least understand where it comes from ?

  • @LokiLore666 The tesseract is our vague understanding of it. Our brains don't readily accept extra spacial dimensions, because our senses only prove three of them exist. Only through more advanced mathematics do we come to understand the possibility of higher dimensions. It would be freaky to perceive a fourth dimension, and suddenly realize many everyday things we thought were 3d, are actually shadows of something more. Cthulhu Fthagn! EEEK!

  • i dont like this describtion.. u point out that a unit circle can be defined by 1 polar coordinate.. yes because u projected the 2d plane on a unit circle.. i could also start at one point of the circle and use a distance to have a 1 dimensional representation.. which is simply not correct since a circle is a 2d object and only because u made it a unit circle (choosing 1 dimension) with only 1 degree of freedom...

  • We have 4th dimensional consciousness in a 3rd dimensional body/universe.

  • Studies say there are like 7 different dimensions.

  • @MajicLaMa nope. 11 dimensions. according to the string theory

  • @BQSurfer

oh yeah. thats what i was trying to ay. i have no idea why i said 7 though. thanks for correcting me.

  • @MajicLaMa i guess you wanted to say there are 7 more dimensions than those 4 we are aware of (3 space dimensions + 1 time dimension)

  • 24 dislikes are 2d creatures

  • Flat business?! What is this flat business you speak of?

  • Well, this is some of the most fascinating shit I have ever seen.

  • this guy looks like he plays in enter the dragon

  • Awesome!!

    Now do the 5th!

  • I must have been in a different dimension when I spelled dimensional - kewl.

  • Being a two dimensial object Square would only see slivers of Flatland whle floating and bobing in the Up dimension. I think it would be difficult for Square to recognize anything until it returns to the same plane as the others in Flatland. Just like the apple is only seen as a sliver by Square when it intersects the Flatland plane.

  • feynman and carl are very good at explaining physics

  • I was discussing the 4th dimension with someone at school and they said it could be time then the 5th dimension is speed or, the 4th dimension is speed and the 5th is time. Dimensions might be related to speed, distance and time. Maybe height, length and width are the only measurements of the actual object. Without distance, you wouldn't have speed and time, without speed, you wouldn't have distance and time and without time, you wouldn't have speed and distance.

  • @lazercrocdt great thinking, but wrong non-the-less. He is talking about spatial dimensions. We can observe 3 dimensions for space and 1 for time. What is explained here is 4 dimensions of space and 1 of time. He is adding a new direction like up-down(Y), left-right(X), forward-backward(Z). We can call it aside-deside(why, 'couse I can). So now you can move up or down(Y), left or right(X), forward or backward(Z), and aside or deside(W).

  • @DaniOcean Ya. I think the 4th dimension is a different direction but this speed time distance thing is for people who think time is a dimension.

  • @lazercrocdt How does it look like? I have no idea, but we can map the W scale to the Z scale in one 3D simulation and leave the XYZ normal in other 3D simulation. This way we can represent a 4D object in 2 3D planes, thus creating the illusion of 4D. The same way your eyes work - representing a 3D object in 2 2D planes.

  • The easiest trick to imagine 4 dimensions: Imagine your room. Now imagine how it was in the past. Imagine its entire time line, how it changed. Now imagine that all at the same time at the same place, overlaying like never before. Next we can go and look at it “sideways”. Your closet will become a long strip of boxes that at each side comes apart into a tangle of strips ending up in a smaller box (the packing box from moving out) which itself becomes a swirling strip going out of the house.

  • Can anyone make a video were someone lifts *me* like that into the 4th dimension?

  • It bothers me that such a great scientist thinks that the 2nd dimension universe doesn't have 'up'. In truth, it would not have depth, or it would not have width. Up is actually the first dimension. I can prove it, but not with this char limit.

  • Oh, Carl Sagan!

  • Thank you! I think if my physics teacher was like him, my grades wouldn't have been so bad!...

  • @AbnormalCruelty fell bad for the square? We should feel bad for the apple! *I have entered from the 3rd dimension* {Screams} OMG UR CUTTING ME IN HALF!!!!!!*

  • As long there is gravity, there will always be up and down. I think Flatlanders HAVE up and down as well as fore-wars and back-wars, but no left and right. Someone who agree?

  • Wtf? All my childhood dreams just got f.....d up

  • This video is amazing!

  • this guy sounds like Smith from the Matrix

  • James is unhappy about being called a psychological manifestation too. He told me to tell you this but they don't ever listen. I hope you listen. Please.

  • It's not that hard to understand, guys...

  • @likeaferrari shhhhhh

  • Jesus fucking Christ! Almost all of you talk about 'mindfucks' etc! Have you ever been going to primary schools or something like that?! It's not that difficult to understand!

  • i masterbated during this..... i think i have problems

  • My mind has been fucked

  • woow thats blow mind shyt right there

  • @Cablop i dont beleive it does. Its impossible for us to guess how a 4D object would appear. The tesserect shape is just what some people assume the 4D 90degree angle'd shape looks in 3 dimensional space. Your making a slippery assumption that theyre correct

  • Sorry Carl, mass can't exist in a 2D space, let alone life. Even a line drawn on a piece of paper is still a 3D object. The flat square can somehow protrude upwards .001" but just for some reason is unable to look upwards? Say no to drugs kids!

  • @rob0rat do you seriously believe Carl Sagan is implying that 2D life could exist?

  • @dannymanic He's implying that there is such a thing as "2D." Therefore, there must exist a "4D" space. Notice I said MASS can't exist. So somewhere there's this imaginary "2D" space which is invisible, and nothing can exist within it. So these brilliant minds figured that there's 3 imaginary, mass-less intersecting lines, and since 4 comes after 3...Dear God, a revelation! THERE MUST BE 4 IMAGINARY LINES!! And 5! And6And7And8 and and and and and and!!!

  • Every time I watch a Carl Sagan video, ....I end up talking like him for days...

  • Crap that last part lost me entirely. But very interesting.

  • @jalforslub and remember it's not space that is curved but the trajectories of all the objects in the universe that are circles however seemingly infinite. There is not the state of rest in the universe, that's why. And space will always be 3D at any point of the Universe (:winks) try to disprove it (:winks again) I am kidding, tho

  • @jalforslub are you teasing me? What is "it" that isn't immaterial in 1D/2D? A mathematical point? Bye the way even a pic drawn with a pencil is 3D cuz the layer of graphite, although almost imperceptibly, has not only a width and length but also a height. Even if they really invented this goddam graphene it would still be 3D

  • @jalforslub can you imagine a mathematical point? There can be neither the 1D world nor the 2D world. 1D is just a straight line that you can't touch cuz it consists of math points. It's immaterial. Likewise 2D is just a plane also consisting of math points. Have you ever thought of what width size a border line is? And a plane is just as immaterial. It's also a kind of a border. Fuck it's the 6th grade, dumbass

  • @scrtg It's not immaterial in a 1D/2D world...

  • @SPYK30 here's another proof that neither 4D nor any other higher dimensional space can exist. It's very simple. In 2D we have two straight lines perpendicular to each other. In 3D three lines perpendicular to each other. To create a 4D coordinate system we have to draw the 4th line perpendicular to all the three lines but this is impossible. Check it out, oafs

  • @scrtg Did you not listen to a single thing the guy said...you can't imagine it you n00b, it's a direction that you can't even point, just like the 2D world, they can't imagine an up. If you want proof, I'm sure that a degree in cosmology will do the trick in proving that space is curved...and obviously, you can't curve a 3 dimensional thing without a 4th dimension.

  • @SPYK3O the hell wuth it

  • @SantaIsSatanMedia Yes! I understand!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Wolvenblaze why did Fermat start proving that when n>2 the equation an + bn = cn doesn't exist for a, b, c -- integers? Coz it is a logical issue. If there are equations when a+b=c and a2+b2=c2 for natural numbers, then, logically, there must be equations like a3+b3=c3, etc. Supposing that, he proves that no, such equations don't exist

  • @Wolvenblaze that's simple. It'called a logical fallacy. This is how human logic works. If 1D is just a straight line, 2D is two straight lines and 3D three lines (X,Y,Z) then when there are 4 coordinate lines it's 4D. 5 - 5d. But this is pure madness.

  • @scrtg

madness? It's the 4th dimension of course it isn't logical, but nevertheless it is there or everywhere for that matter.

  • How did mathematicians arrive at the 4-D cube's "shadow"?

  • i wish my girlfriend's boobs where in 4D .......Not Flat....

  • Professional mindfucker

  • Or maybe not. All the same the video is ridiculous

  • Oh no, Monty Python are funnier

  • I think many scientists forgot what geometry exists for. It exists for measurment. It doesn't describes the laws of nature. Roughly speaking Euclidian geometry determines coordinates of a still mathematical point. Non-euclidian geometry is an attempt to determine coordinates of a moving point using methods of euclidian geometry, i.e. an attempt to make a still description of a moving point thus coming to a complete delirium eventually. Is it understood? No? It's a joke, though

  • This makes me think of Monty Python for some reason.

  • We can only speak about 2D, 3D and 4D in terms of geometry. There's 2D geometry or plane geometry, 3D geometry or solid geometry and 4D geometry (vector geometry?). There are not such things like 2D space and 4D space (and higher) in reality. Only 3D space

  • @scrtg Do you really believe in that? Give me proof.

  • Wow vintage stuff!! Sagan was a A+++pioneer in making complex concepts practical.. But sorry Dr.Sagan, the fourth dimension can not be perceived in "thought" it can only be mapped using Conformal Mapping using Complex Variable on a bi-dimensional surface. Or now 4d software. Still a fan, bless u in the other dimension.

  • how many dimensions is a thought made of? is it the 1st dimension?.. if so could a 5d mind cast a 3d thought?

  • @newpariah

    i think infinite

  • Comment removed

  • "Mr. Anderson....."

  • hey apple ! apple ! apple !

    what ?!

    knife =3 2:43

  • Why do i hear fruitymensional creature @1:40

  • The best explanation of the 4th dimension, bravo Mr. Sagan!

  • this made me hungry......

  • This video is the only explanation of 4d I could understand, therefore it's the best!

  • @MOSpr0ductz

    dubdubdub dimensions-math org

This will blow the top of your head off. Its a series of easy to watch videos that shows what Sagan is showing, plus much much more.

  • Man I am confused!

  • so its just like what finn said, a 2D bubble cast's a 1D shadow, a 3D bubble casts a 2D shadow and a 4D bubble casts a 3D shadow

  • Cont.

    1ds=1line 2ds=4lines 3ds=12lines

    Singular. Prior x4. Prior x3.

    4ds=24lines

    Prior x2

    See the pattern?

  • @TheDestoned False 4Ds hypercubes has 32 edges

  • @tamanewb

In 1 dimensional space, there can be only a line

In 2 dimensional space there can be many lines going up, down, left, or right (this includes diagonal lines)

So that would be 4 lines. The square

In 3 dimensional space there can be a multitude of lines going in any direction we can comprehend. The cube, 12 lines.

In 4ds, which we cannot comprehend. It would be logical to assume the cube would take on a shape which has 24 lines.

    1ds=1line 2ds=4lines 3ds=12lines

    Singular. P

  • so if you see a ghost in front of you .. its actually a reflection of a ghost behind you ... imagine if it was only shadows ... you wont see its projection as 3D

  • IMHO though .... what we see as 3D projections by 4D beings are actually reflections ... not shadows ... coz if it was shadow ... it would be all black and we wouldnt perceive depth ... as in 2D objects ... so for me .. its reflections .. not shadows ... a good presentation would be holding the hypercube in front of a mirror ... and we would perceive a 3D object ... not shadow ... hehe ... thats why crystals, mirrors and shiny objects are used as mediums to interact with so called supernaturals.

  • bitch wasted an apple

  • very poetic way of explaining dimensions!!

  • 2:47 has to be the funniest part in the world to me hahahahahah, SLIGHTYHERERE by

  • Annoying Apple........duhhhh

  • 1 Googleplex D is too much for my mind.

  • 1 Dimension are only lines. D:

    2 Dimensions are shapes. :-|

    3 Dimensions are... O_o I don't know.

4 Dimensions are... the second thing I don't know.

  • some people are confused about the different dimensions, im confused about how that damn door works

  • Meanwhile in 4D world:

This is boxland. Its a 3-dimensional world only. They have width, length, height, but no (??CENSORED??) at all. We have boxes, spheres, pyramids all walking around doing their boxy ( lol boxxy xD) business.

  • @Almaironn sounds a bit like minecraft! ^^

  • @Almaironn HAH boxland sounds boring compared all our 4 dimensions

  • who the hell figured that out

  • An important thing he misses out that the 3D object he displays is just *one* projection of the 4D object. The way he puts it, it sounds as if it's *the* projection.

  • PLEASE STOP THRUSTING YOUR SCIENCE PHALLUS INTO MY CRANIUM!!!!!!

  • is all of this still accurate?

  • The only person in history who makes me happy to feel like a moron.

  • MINNNDDD FUCKKKEEDDD!!!

  • I remember seeing this along time ago. it helped at the time to explain the dimensions

  • If this flat world was anything like our own, it would have gravity.

If it had gravity, it would be necessary for there to be an "up" and "down" direction on any given planet.

  • @MystyrNile Yes, that sounds right. I guess the people of Flatland are to week to over power gravity and move up. The same way we don't posses the energy to move ana (to move ana is to move in a positive direction in the 4th dimension[like moving up in the 2nd dimension])

  • @EODsplosion Well, the thing I mean is that even if there were only 4 directions for them, two of them would, naturally, become "up" and "down", because their circular "planet" would have gravity that would cause them to go down.

They're just floating around without gravity.

  • "we go into our houses and do our flat business." oh yeah!!

  • Carl Sagan!

  • He sounds like Agent Smith from the matrix in this one. It's something about how he holds on to syllables.

  • Carl was one of the greatest mind fuckers ever!

  • HOW the hell can the 2d character look around in its house? that means that its eyes are at the side of its head, there is no hight, so the eyes must be on the top of its head, so he must look up, and than he can see the 3D apple, the guy just sayd: now these little cubes have a little bit of hight but lets ignore that, if something is completely flat it cant look around with eyes that are placed on something that is 3D!!!!!

  • @b1gbudda well, we are going to disregard everything you just said because you spelled SAID SAYD.

  • @b1gbudda the eye is on the outside of its body, and by 2D he doesn't mean the way Mario moves, it would seem like a topdown world to us, like Pacman kinda.

  • @Intrufusion that would mean he looks through his own body, 2d world is not possible:P

  • @b1gbudda no... I mean that our eyes are half outside our bodies, right? Well a 2d person's eye would be halfway outside their body. a 2d being's digestive tract can be problematic, so I think they should have semi-permeable membranes like cells have.

  • @b1gbudda imagine in flatland everything has a thickness, but then everything has the same thickness no more or less. then you can think of it being really flat. dont think about the "seeing" too much the flatland example is just entertainment.

  • He makes us sound like idiots

  • por favor sera QUE SE PUEDE TRADUCIR EN ESPAÑOL????

  • O_O wow!

  • Mr. Annnderson

  • I bet my ass that Sagan HAD a real tesseract. And he used it as a paperweight.

  • So theres 6 squares in a cube...

does that mean there should be 7 cubes in a hyper cube?

Then how many hyper cubes are in a hyperhyper cube? lol

  • So theres 6 squares in a cube...

does that mean there should be 7 cubes in a hyper cube?

  • we can combine 2 dimensional objects to other 2 dimension objects to make a 3 dimensional object so theoretically isn't that possible for us to enter the 4th dimension? is there more by this guy? where can I find/purchase it?

  • Oh... I get it, a cube within a cube. Dimension(s) within a dimension.

  • what I mean to say is every dimension life forms can see higher dimension lifeforms up to only there own dimension, not more than that

  • sorry Its not N^th -1, but it should be Nth - (Nth-1) Dimension

  • This also makes me think that carpenter in 4th dimension can make 3D objects.

which forces me to think that at N^th Dimension people can see Nth-1 Demension people, just as we can see both 1D and 2D Objects.

if there is a life forms in 1D and 2D I am pretty sure we can See them, but only thing is they can see us at Nth-1 Dimension.

    AM I right????

  • very good explanation, I can imagine 4th and higher dimension now.....

    Thank you very much

  • uh... what? hypercube? i should write tht down

  • so we just keep adding stuff, and use our imagination. Nice, well, too bad we're not capable of seeing or accessing this sort of knowledge so now my mind is fucked.

thanks a lot youtube and white guy in the video

  • @TheRush905 I dont care the only party I support is The Rent Is too Damn High

  • @PivotPiAnimations no There are 10 dimensions + TIME

and we are trapped in 3 dimensions + TIME you dumbfuck

  • Pirate sex is when your fucking a girl and when you reach climax you both cum at the same time and you tell ARRRRRR!!!! Than as she gets blasted, she suddenly grows a beared and screams (in a higher pitched voice) ARRRRRRR!!!! Then suddenly, you hear a third voice lower than both others (Kinda like a dying, broken-down car engine) mutter ARRRRRRRRR... This voice must come from a distant male relative whom you did not know was in the residence prior to the beginning of sex.

  • BewitchingMusic@ oh I know perfectly well, I was thinking the same thing. That's the reason I came looking for this all along

  • Is so hard to imagine it!! I just don't get a clear picture! Ahh! Now I know is ther I just can't see it to it's full potential

  • does a 4D cube show a 3D shadow ??

  • @prickelyheat yes

  • I was right with you Carl until the very end:

"We can certainly think about it perfectly well"

    Uhhh....I'm not so perfect

  • does he remind anyone of a white morpheus?

  • @superbestie92 yes exactly what i was thinking haha

  • all i want him to say is " hello mr anderson" he sounds like the dude from matrix lol

  • AHHHHH THE END MADE MY MIND EXPLODE - INCEPTIONNNN

  • PRESS 8 FOR EHHOO

  • they had cool special effects haha

  • Comment removed

  • and do our "flat business"

  • 2d is imposible as 4d if it didnt have hight it wouldnt exist or be able to be seen

  • @helper1029384756 No it's not impossible. You are just thinking in 3D... for natural reasons.

  • @Hopefulfilment yeh imo 3d impossible cus you need a 3rd dimension for it to exist cus if it dont have a length or whever it not exist..

  • @helper1029384756 Ok. I know it may be a bit hard to wrap your head around but it can. For example many of the particles that make up atoms are believed to have no size at all. They are just infinitely small dots with charge (+ or -) or mass ("weight"). It is not until they interact with each other they get "3D size".

It is just that everything around us (that we see) is 3d, and our brains have difficulties visualizing anything else. :)
