I love the LR3, but how did it get 2005 motor trend sport/utility of the year? they 2005 models were the ones with all the problems. My parents had an '05 LR3 and it had so many problems that they made Land Rover buy it back because it was a lemon
they call it the lr3 just because "its all the ragein the us" (exp) hummer H2. but thats what lr owners used to like about landrover, they didnt blend in. most owners including me would like that names changed to discovery 3 in the us.
The dealer in my town just pulled up the carpet, too many service issues, losing money. Don't get me wrong, I love Land Rovers, I just could not afford one. :(
@lewis0100 In the United States, the Discovery name was attributed to various component and electrical issues. Although rock solid, Land Rover decided to rename the Discovery 3 to appeal to buyers previously turned off by complaints of the past Discovery. ...Never had any problems with mine though..
@datheman3780 because the Discovery name had been so badly tarnished by poor reliability and horrible reviews. Honestly I just think the American market featured far more harsh competition which contributed to the negative reviews and images - it was going up against big-engined German and American rivals which don't really pop-up very often in Europe. Having said that, I love my DII, but I'm selling it (and my other car) for a D3 - since it easily takes the place of both ;)

Such a cool commercial. Simplistic yet energetic. Song goes very well with it.
Makes me glad we own a Land Rover ('99Discovery).

Is LR3 the American name??
datheman3780 3 years ago
Yep. In England and I know Australia it is called the Discovery 3. There was some reason for the name difference but I can't remember why.

Thanx.
datheman3780 3 years ago
Because Discovery 1 & 2 had such bad reputations for reliability in America - I believe they wanted to distance the new one from it.
