  • Dear Admiral Mullen,

    Two questions:

    (1) When and where did cluster munitions last get used in combat by US or NATO forces?

    (2) How do I find your response to question (1)?

    Thank you for your consideration

  • Hello ADM Mullen, The question I would like to ask you is now that the DADT has been repealed, will you and the SecDef be turning your attention to allowing women to serve in the front line? Also, while I don't personally appove of the repeal of DADT, thought respect the decision, overall I beleive you have done a tremendous job during your two terms as Chairman. I hope that you will decide to serve one more term after your current term expires in October.

  • Given the political value of a single nuclear weapon and the reduced value of a second nuclear strike, it seems to me we really only need a dozen or so to keep the whole world in fear of destruction. How many strategic nuclear weapons do we really need? It seems to me that the threat to any nation of a hundred nuclear weapon strikes is little different from a single weapon strike..

  • WELL IT'S PERSIAN GULF

  • Since it is a DOD mandate to help reduce injuries caused by soldiers equipment weight, have you heard about DAMPS Technology Smart Boots.

  • Since it is a DOD mandate to help reduce injuries caused by soldiers equipment weight, why hasn't there been more program money available to fund the R&D essential to increase the shock mitigation technology in boots for both men and our women soldiers? DAMPS Technology Smart Boots.

Thank you for your service and all you do to provide the best equipment available to our soldiers. HOORAH!

  • Dear Sir,

    One more question from me.

About cyber war threats, what is your projection regarding the number of cyber war threats we will have in 2012 and 2013 compared to the ones we had in 2010 (will it double or triple or will be quadrupled ?)

    Very respectfully,

USCG - STA MTR - SN NGUYEN

  • How effective is DOD work in training police units in Afghanistan and Iraq, in your point of view? Are there Measures of Effectiveness you are using to determine whether we are succesful in this mission? If so, what are they?

  • Greetings:

As a Vietnam Era Navy veteran and a Chief with the Cherokee Warrior Society, I would like to touch on two issues; 1=PTSD psychologists' standard questionnaire seems heavily slanted towards the Anglo thought process denying our native warriors their PTSD VA disability awards. 2=According to VA health-care statistics, Very few Native people, and especially Navy veterans, are granted 100% VA disability, a large difference when compared to non-Navy anglo veterans.

  • I would love to know why the USN continues to deny doctors of chiropractic comissioned status? It is my understanding the the Navy is SLOWLY beginning to hire a very limited number of chiropractors as civilian employees but even those hirings are far and few between. Chiropractic provides a safe and viable non-drug method of healthcare that would greatly benefit service members. Isn't time the Navy fully incorporate chiropractors

  • Why is the post 911 GI BILL NOT available to members of families prior to Aug 2009?? WE are the ones who DESERVE the priority!!! ESPECIALLY those of us who have RETIRED prior to 2009! WE SERVED during 911. I am appalled that the NAVY does not recognize that!! Please advise if that is being looked into or addressed! Thank you very much Sir and I look forward to your reply!

  • Dear Admiral Mullen: How can the expanding non-profit sector serving veterans, best work with federal agencies, government at all levels, and businesses/industries, to reverse the dismal trend of unemployment for our newest generation of veterans? Is a national conference directed by DoD a possibility? Thank you. CEO, Veterans Green Jobs (Denver, CO)

  • Dear Sir,

    My question is

Do you think the process of putting an enlisted member's name on "A" school's waiting list based on the basis of first come first serve and wait-for-turn is out of date?

I think US armed forces need to have more active way sto help members with talents and passions to emerge faster. For example, with USCG IT "A" school, E3 with Comptia A+ or even Comptia N+ can jump a certain positions up the waiting list.

    Very respectfully,

USCG - STA Monterey - SN Nguyen.

  • Dear Sir:

My husband is an Army soldier who is hoping to go Green to Gold. He is fluent in Arabic, citizen, debt free, & has experience working with Middle Eastern royalty and protocols. He has one business degree & is close to a second. The Scholarship GtG allows for three dependents, including spouse. We have three children, creating 4 dependents. If we do the non scholarship option, we have to leave our housing when we just arrived a few months ago. Is there a waiver for dependents?

    Thank You

  • Sir, I am Kevin Macey Navy Chief (ret) and my question is: Do you have any plans to change the zero defect mentality that seems to be so prevalent these days? Zero Tolerance sounds good, but is there any plan to help people atone for their mistakes, learn from them, and move on from there?

  • ADM: (this is from my husband whos a Marine.) Why is it that Marines/Military members that have pressing legal issues(including a possible threat to their identiy, one is a court case) and is actualy easing in a few months, is sent for base clean up instead of an rbe in the barracks. Even after requesting mast and explainingit was denied and they refused to keep the request mast going higher? We see this a lot over here at KBay. Thank you. - Schintz Family

  • @ashschintz Did the mast actually happen? or are you saying that the request was not routed up to the OIC/CO? Also, please refrain from acronyms as they may not be consistant everywhere, and thus confusing. If you could be more descriptive that would be helpful. (I am just an interested Sailor, not associated with the Admiral, other than by sharing in the greatest branch of military service)

  • Admiral Mullen,

what is the current policy regarding the admission of people with A.D.D/ A.D.H.D as officers in our military?

thank you, a seventeen year old with A.D.D

  • Dear Sir, I am a SSgt of 12yrs and an instructor with the USAF Security Forces for four years and I have begun to question the quantity over quality in regards to our training. It seems the AF Security Forces center doesn't know what they want us to do and our training as become very broad. Sir is there any plains to reshape the Security Forces career field and to look at changing the way we train? Going from quanity to quality and training for our missions? Blanket coverage isn't working.

  • Hi Sir,

The % figured out for divorce spouses is at the rank military member retires and not at the rank they were divorced. If a divorce occurs, military member is let's say, an E5 and married for 13 years, retires after 25 years of service E7, ends up giving up 12 years and 2 ranks %, which can be up to 50% of retirement pay to an ex spouse that was not a part of the military career for the last 12 yrs. Does this seem fair to you and can this be re-addressed?

  • Much thanks for all the questions/comments so far...why not take a few moments, fire up that webcam, and get your question on video? We'll take a look at every question, but video questions go to the front of the line :)

  • Thank you for this forum!! As a Director for a nonprofit providing services for Military Families, what is going to happen to the Sea of Good Will when we can no longer fund our programs? Without financial support from the VA or the DoD many of these programs will vanish leaving the military with an Puddle of Good Thoughts. And the Military Families left with little support.

  • Our service members are returning home with TBi and PTSD in record numbers. Please make it mandatory that every soldier who sees combat or serves in an overseas combat theatre to be screened for TBI or PTSD whether or not they are active duty or guard or reserves. The PDHRA does NOTHING! After these soldiers are home for more than 90 days--get them in and treat them!!!!!!!!

How long are you going to waste time and create a huge problem for this generation of soldiers? Do it now!! Do it now!

  • After my husband passed away I still have to pay $3000 a year for cat cap. I am the only one left and wondered if it could be reduced?

  • Retiree death info, better assistance is needed by the casualty assistance office. I received no help and ended up with only my ID card & TFL because of no service connected disability after husband served over 22 years active. I do not see where the military can not afford $650 toward burial benefits for this kind of service. Can you help revise this program?

  • When will chiropractic be available where we need it most, in Iraq & Afghanistan? Why is it just available stateside?

  • Admiral, do you think the HAP will be extended? The housing crisis in this country continues yet the program doesn't extend for those that bought homes after 2006.

  • Sir, why did you and/or your Staff allow CJCS Shinseki to take the "Black Beret" away from the Army Rangers and give it to the Army in general? That did a great amount of damage to the espirit de corps of the Rangers. You could have told him it was wrong, and a stupid idea.
