I've just listened to a bunch of Marco's performances and can say he is every bit as amazing as Di Meola. Wow!!!! His mastery of the extreme rhythms and timing blows me away.
... and dimeola popularized a sound that existed before him. There is nothing wrong with paying homage to the greats is there? Where would we be if no one did such? The great music would remain in the past. Forget about Bach, Chopin, Piazzolla etc. We would have little reference wouldn't we? Marco is truly unique in that he can sound "just like dimeola" as you say. So many try and fail. Of course, this is but one dimension to his playing. It is one that is well worth commending if you ask me!!!
of course not! playing like al di meola is a compliment! ... but at the same time, it is important to develop one's own musical identity. now i'm not saying he doesn't have his own identity, it's just that all the videos he has posted up has him sounding like di meola. he is a phenomenal player, and as you say, so many do try and fail.
i love how at the end the audience respectfully clapped like they were at a piccolo recital. that was so amazing you sorta expected a mosh pit to break out.
Great expression

He does not play "like" Al Dimeola. He just use the same technique. Porcu's music is superb, dynamic and very original.

I'm sorry. It's just that he covers a lot of Di Meola, has the same guitar, same tone, same incredible right hand technique, and palm mutes a lot.
