@Yamaha519VX Did that for many years. Hated it since I couldn't outfit the vehicle the way I wanted too. Plus, rental companies now a days can hold you liable if you damage their vehicle while doing something they deem as irresponsible with it. I don't mind all the dents on my vehicle, but glass protection is important since that's where you'll really rack up some big expenses! Thanks for watching!
@vfIskullangel Bullet proof eh? Very nice! That was a bit out of our price range so we had to compromise :) Thanks for watching and best of luck with your set up!!
@tornadovideostock I want military grade technology at home depo prices and thats what I intend on developing in the next few years specificially for storm chasing. A tornado probe to be lightweight, and simple I'm also developing. Hopefully I can have it in active service by 2014 or sooner.
I saw something that might help, but it kinda takes the view away. When some guys were doing some tree timing, I saw a roof rack on their truck with an extension that went over the front window and hood with a wire mesh over it. It was strong enough to walk on so hail should be no problem. This was more or less a permanent installation and not temporary and deployable like yours.
@spacestevie2 I've seen those as well! But overall our design works really well, and..most importantly it preserves a clear view out the windshield! The bigger hail stones that could easily shatter your windows have a tendency to fall straight down (for the most part) so the design that jets out off the roof so far has worked well :) Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for your comments!
well thought out, those magnets are a great idea. I've been thinking on how to protect my car. my major concern is large falling branches, so im thinking of an exo-cage for my old-school subaru. again, great work!
@mp3588 It really has seen better days that's for sure, lol. Actually, having the guard covering the windshield itself really screws up visibility. Plus, the cops don't like it much either. So, since the windshield is the least costly to replace, we decided to have it jet out above the windshield and will risk a few sneaking in underneath. However, most of the bigger hail stones have a tendency to fall straight down so we've been lucky.......so far, lol
We've thought of that actually! But, it turns out that it was so much work it would be very hard to produce these in larger quantities. Still though, you never know!
Chase in a rental.

AH ha that X has seen better days
Shouldnt the hail guard over the windshield be 'over' the windshield like a mask?

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Hats off to Dave Lewison big time on the design as it worked flawlessly on the June 11th Colorado hail day!
