  • I woulda retired to cuz the sport u have so much admiration for didnt have the same for you aspecially after you work so hard as a fighter, but haglar asked sugar ray for a rematch and ray said no lol he knew he was gone die if he got back in there with that man, haglar lost two fights his whole career, everytime he lost he went on like a tweele fight wining streak and none those fights lasted to the 3rd round all 1st n 2nd round knockouts in ray aint want no parts of dat lol i wouldnt either

  • @gonzie did u see him wip sugar rays @ss sugar ray won one round in that was the first maybe, they gave sugar ray that win cuz they hated haglars personality and loved sugar rays so they used him as a boxings poster child to make money,he was hell of a fighter but haglar kilt that man

  • @dullie215

I saw the fight on Closed Circuit location.

After the fight, I was so sure Hagler won b/c Ray just ran and ran and did pittypat combos.

I was shocked of the decision to say the least.

  • Craaaazy fight i had haglar wining all three rounds, commentator said haglar throws low blows,he wasnt try n to throw low blows he was tryn punch his kidneys threw his stomach lol he was a machine!

  • @dullie215

    And it worked.

Tommy's legs were gone by the second round.

  • Their jabs would have knocked out most "boxers" of today. The best 2 1/2 rounds of boxing.

  • These fighters were some bad motherfuckers

  • GREATEST FIGHT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man i love black people

  • I remember watching this fight as a kid with my old man and 4 of his friends. It was funny watching Hearns' jehri curl fly in slow motion once Hagler landed a punch on him.

  • Hagler was a machine in this fight, relentless.

Hearns had a lot of bottle here

  • I love the way they finish the first absolutely bashing the shit out of each other and when the bell goes they're still both like 'you want some fucking more?'

  • "Hagler is hurt, Hagler is done" 15 seconds into the fight. Bit of an overstatement eh?

  • @joeminghia .....I think you are referring to Al Michaels....he actually says "Hagler is hurt, Hagler is stunned"....

  • Hearns blew his wad way too early..although an amazing middleweight. Just ran out of gas.

  • too much low blow in this fight ... but the way tommy not complaining, wow ...

  • How did you guys score round 1, I thought it was very close but I think Hagler at the end took it, but some people thought Hearns won. Does anyone know what the official scorecards were after 2 rounds.

  • @JJbubbs23

It was a split before the stoppage.

time: 1:52 | referee: Richard Steele | judge: Harry Gibbs 20-18 | judge: Herb Santos 20-18 | judge: Dick Young 18-20

I have no clue how Dick Young saw the second round as Tommy's round.

  • @joeygonzo

Maybe he saw Hag's blood and thought he was losing badly.

  • @JJbubbs23 I scored the first round even. Both men landed tons of shots and a lot of power shots as well. Both guys were stunned also. It was a tough round to score because despite all the shots thrown and landed neither guy dominated the round.

  • Your watching two of the greatest middleweights of all time here

  • Real middle weights, unlike chavez jr...

  • 'Hagler' destroyed the kid. These two are far better than the jokers of today.

  • Hagler destroyed the kid.

  • deadly footwork from the ref

  • wow what a fight hagler is a come forward monster!

He has a great chin aswel, somebody that would terrify any boxer.

  • I am a big fan of both of them. Haglers low blows took alot steam out of Tommy.

  • KE PELEA CONCHASUMAREE VIBRANTE DE PRINCIPIO AFIN,RECUERDO KE LA VI CON MI VIEJO CHIBOLAZO,GRACIAS AELLOS ME GUSTO EL BOXEO,KE BARBAROS!!! SIN TREGUA DAME KE TE DOY,SIN DUDA LA MEJOR PELEA DELOSPESOS MEDIOS DE TODOS LOSTIEMPOS !!!

  • marvin the marvellous great.........

  • Unbelievable fight.

When Hearns hits Hagler with that first tremendous right hand you can see him pause and take a small step back as if he is expecting Hagler to go down. One wonder what went through his mind when he saw Hagler was still standing having taken his best shot.

  • how can you be allowed to win a fight after like 7 low blows, that is bullshit boxing

  • Great video of a great fight. The game isn't the same any more, sadly. These guys were the best.

  • Got the chills from that first round.

  • Marvelous

  • mayweather wouldnt have lasted with either one,,,thoughts??

  • @rickeywomack

    He'd be too small .

These two would have ran over him.

  • @rickeywomack Floyd would want hair samples from Hagler . And that Tommy would not have been a big enough draw.

  • @rickeywomack IDK? man... Mayweather wouldnt be able to hurt them but that's not his style he out boxes people.. Honestly there both kind of wild i think they would have a hard time actually landing any good punches.. People dont really talk abouts Flyod's precession to much either.. I think a better matchfor him would of been Sugar Ray who i think would fuck Floyd up but it would of been a good 1//

  • @rickeywomack

    ever heard of weight-classes?

they are a fundamental element of the rules of boxing, and anyone that knows anything about the sport -and this excludes envious losers with grudges to bear- understands the implications of weight classes upon considerations regarding match-ups.

  • @rickeywomack I disagree

  • take off the ? and put a !!! on the title

  • Hagler - The ultimate warrior.

  • Great fight , Hagler the best Middleweight to me and Hearns a Great Welter/Middleweight.

  • wow

  • @jason60152 How can you say Antonio Tarver is better than Tommy Hearns? Tarver is a overrated bum. He wouldn't last 2 minutes with Hearns faggot. like I said before Hearns has more KO's than Tarver's wins. You don't know shit about boxing. Hearns became the first boxer in history to win world titles in four divisions. What has Tarver accomplish? You are a fucking joke.

  • Hagler, hearns, duran, Leonard these were some of the best boxers ever, they came to not like todays boxers, these 4 fought everyone and each other

  • wow

  • Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran. We will NEVER see a quartet like that in any weight, all operating at the same time, ever again.

  • Hearns is the hardest middleweight puncher of all time ( look up hearns vs duran) Hearns was known to knock out heavyweights so he probably did break his hand since Hagler has the hardest chin in boxing (Thats a fact look it up in the 10 hardest chins of all time)

  • @MrRick1254

I think he broke it on the third right hook he hit Hags. Tommy hit him flush in the side of the face. Hags stopped for a second and got nailed twice more. How in the world Hags just shook them off, is just unreal.

All that before the 30th second of the first round .

  • @joeygonzo That's insane.

  • @MrRick1254 But a chin has to be relative to weight class. Without a doubt, Hagler had 1 of the best chins in his weight class/Lb for Lb.

  • This is the best fight of all-time........it only took 2 rounds to determine that also

both fighters gave everything they had............that's why it did not last

    Cemented Hagler dominance

I can not think of a better middleweight unless you wanna include Sugar Ray Robinson

  • @raiderz1111 This kind of fight bro, is something you dont learn in the gym. Being a fighter is more that just knowing how to fight, its that hunger that warriors feel when they refuse to get defeated (spartans, gladiators, ww2 soviet union etc.) its a psychology that makes the fighter put himself and his self pity out the window in order to win the fight. These two fighters were obviously not fighting for the money, who the hell would go through that for money.

  • @MrRick1254 i think hardest middleweight puncher was Julian Jackson, p4p nobody had more power than he did. I think he was a light-middleweight however

  • Yea the gloves were small back then, but that really has little to do with the brutality of this fight. These two men would of killed each other even if the gloves were 16 oz. Its the fight hunger in these two men that separates them from the rest. You can buy gloves, training, trainers etc. You cant buy heart, no matter how much money you got. Thats the difference.

  • greatest fight ever hands down was corrales-castillo

  • @juanros71 Naw. Good fight, but the Ward/Gatti & Berrera/Moralas (1st fight) fights were equally good.

  • @gjc82071 yur right

i just get overexcited when i watch a good fight lol!

personally barrera/morales have been MY favorite fights

  • Yea, they were good. Did you see Gatti VS Ward? What about Alexis Arguello VS Aron Pryor? All the Ali VS Frazier fights were good. I also loved Holyfield VS Tyson 1. It wasn't an exceptionally actiona packed fight, but I love Evander, and I was like the only person I know, who KNEW that Evander would win. I won $20k off the fight!! Barrera VS Princess Nas Hamhead was OK. Not a lot of action, but enjoyable. Especially since Barrera not only schooled, but basically retired the little elf.

  • @gjc82071 well, emanual steward, hearns trainer, said that hamed would beat barerra if they fought earlier

  • @carmodifire That's just his opinion. I say otherwise. :-P

  • @gjc82071 OK. Because he said Hamed didn't train much because he underestimated Barerra and relied on his power, which Barerra avoided.

  • @gjc82071 im not really into heavyweight fights theyre too slow paced for my liking and yes i saw gatti vs ward and arguello vs pryor truly epic fights!.

  • Great fight. No pay perview. Classic

  • back when boxing was great

  • IMHO this is hardly the The Greatest Fight Ever, there were just 2 1/2 rounds, there were several other better fights like Hearns - Leonard, Leonard - Duran 1, Taylor - Chavez and more recently Morales - Paquiao 1, all of them better fights than this, I still think that Hagler - Hearns it was a great fight but nothing special compared the the other ones that I mentioned, just as a note Hearns was a very limited fighter he just trow punches to the head he never trow a real serious body pounch.

  • @recibos1001 You put Taylor-Chavez over this? it was a clinic for much of the fight and then controversial after that,

  • @recibos1001 It was a great fight not just because of the fight itself, which was a war with neither guy conserving energy for latter rounds, but because you had two legends facing each other. There was a lot of hype, it was the middleweight division (definitely a glamor division) and the guys both came to knock each other out, and early. So it had a lot of critical elements of gratness in it. But I agree there have been other boxing matches that exceeded this one for quality.

  • This is true boxing. not like the shit that i witnessed with ortiz and mayweather... i really am starting to doubt the sport as a whole

  • I wouldnt say this was the greatest fight ever....but def the best 3 rounds ever!!!

  • I remember this great fight, great job by marvin

  • Never seen this before, that was incredible

  • wow!

  • To add to what was already a classic fight, the commentating was STELLAR, capturing all the excitment of the fight. I believe that Bernstein and Michaels in the broadcast that night.

  • FINALLY A GOOD FIGHT...THESE GUYS CAN BOX JUST LIKE MEXICANS

    Hearns vs Hagler=Morales vs Barrera

MEXICANS AND BLACKS BEST BOXERS EVERRRR

    Mexicans 189 champions

Blacks 175 champions......about exactly the same

  • @AndrewQuiroz24

Take a look at Paquiao(champion in 7 different categories),Martinez,Mayweather,Donaire,Bute,Alvarez, Maidana,Ortiz,Mathysse,Klitschko bros(yes, they kick everyone s ass) Barrera, Morales,Khan, Cotto, Margarito,Mosley,etc...every one of them had intense wars, I guess we tend to mystify the past...I m 41 and actually saw this Hagler Hearns fight...and enjoy present boxing(and intermediate) just the same

  • Best fight ever. I was 17 when I saw this fight, back in those day's they had the best fighters. Ray Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran. Those were the day's when boxing was great.

  • @Rick102667 boxing is still great man, its just harder to find amongst all the crap. Look up angulo vs kirkland, i thought that was pretty great, and it wasnt even for a belt! And sergio martinez is making the middleweights exciting again, he just needs a few more superstars to battle multiple times like the guys u mentioned in their days

  • Greatest fight ever? YES!!!!!!

  • Seems to me that Hearns didnt want to continue

  • the ref has some footwork

  • You know how they show highlights of a fight? Well, this whole thing was highlight. The best ever!

  • Noooo.....the best fight of all time was Gatti Vs Ward...hands down

  • @Dys1970 agreed

  • The Golden Age of boxing.

  • What happened to fighters like this? Nowadays everyone is such a pussy with no chin and balls. I'm 19 and wish I truly grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s just because of these incredible fights.

  • @AndrewQuiroz24

    Notice the small gloves ?

The middleweights used 8 oz gloves then.

The ring was also 18 by 18. It's 20 by 20 feet now in Vegas.

  • @joeygonzo yeah man the gloves were super small back then how much do the middleweight gloves weigh now?

  • @Hillvillager17

The middles wear 10 oz gloves now. They look much bigger. Also the the thumbs in these gloves were not the locked-thumb kind.

  • @joeygonzo oh shit, so the thumb is like another separate part of the glove?

  • @Hillvillager17

The tips of the gloves now are sown down so you can't grab with them or stick them out.

  • Jst oonce I'd like to see Floyd Mayweather face a boxer like Hagler, Hearns, Sugar Ray or Duran. Floyd is good, yes. But he's never faced any fighter that had the speed, skill, chin, heart, etc, of any of those great fighters. I think any of the 4 fighters I mentioned, had the ability to make for a very bad night for Floyd. Floyd's cutsie shit wouldn't work on a Hagler, who'd walk through Floyd's shots, and collapse his ribcage. Hearns, pick him apart from outside, Ray, just as fast/slick.

  • @gjc82071 hagler would just eat mayweathers punches and like get waken by it because he'd probably get bored fighing him, his chin is just way too good !!

  • @joeygonzo good point

  • @AndrewQuiroz24 Hearns broke his hand in rnd 1.Kept fighting and has NEVER used it as an excuse.David Haye broke his pinkie toe weeks b4 facing Klitschko and bitched and whined for days and weeks. But not to worry, now with internet and everything u can access any figt u want in seconds:-) I think the only era that was "u had to be there" was Tysons reign 86-90 Ppl that wasn`t even born then hate on Tyson, but no one gives the fact that back then no one knew how it would end a thought.

  • @AndrewQuiroz24 Riso-Antillon was like this (smaller scale obv) just a few weeks ago, wolak-Rodriguez alos a few eeks ago. The question should be, why are fights like this not televised more.

  • Comment removed

  • @AndrewQuiroz24 ....it was a great time for boxing that is for sure....middleweights like Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hagler....it was exciting....heavyweights before that Frazier, Foreman, Ali....now every fight seems to end in some bs controversy...SEE Floyd Mayweather vs Ortiz...complete JOKES...but they will do a rematch for twice the money in the previous fight! LOL...they all are shit now a days.

  • @AndrewQuiroz24 And The old guys are shaking , and speaking like the Mayweathersfrom all these punches.

  • @AndrewQuiroz24 Ever watch Ward vs Gatti. This was a great, all action fight. But compared to that trilogy, this was mediocre.

  • @MADMAC572 Yea that was a great trilogy. But probably the last of those kind of fighters ):

  • Pure "Mano-a-mano". Boxing as it was meant to be.

  • You have my vote. This is the best fight ever.

  • If I'm correct hitman broke his hand in the first round

  • Love this fight! I'm watching it for a first time and I am speechless! My favorite fight is Mike Zambidis vs Chahid :))

  • These two guys REALLY didnt like each other, and that made it great fight. Nothing ive seen since even compare's, and the first round must go down in history as the most action packed, edge of the seat dust up ever!!. There were no mickey mouse belts, or champs in this era, just true champions, and marvin with his switching, never say die attitude and toughness, was in my humble view the best.

  • my favorite fighter tommy "the hitman" hearns ,but bloody ell,how hard is marvin hagler.think his chin is made of granite!!

  • I believe Manny is telling the truth...Tommy never had his legs...

  • It's a great fight, but about midway through the first, Hagler has the momentum. Rd. 2 Hagler is clearly dominant, and in the 3rd, well, Hearns is done. Awesome fight, yes, but a lot more one-sided than many here would admit... or remember.

  • that was spectacular! id not seen this fight before. wow. fireworks.

  • David haye you should watch this and learn what real boxing all about

  • Two great boxers rise turn their bout into an elemental struggle for survival. Others have done the same in their sports: Bjorn, Tiger, Pele, Lance. We are fortunate to have lived in their time.

  • Thanks for posting this great fight!

  • I'm as a big a fan of Marvelous Marvin as anyone, but you always have to remember that Hearns fought virtually the entire fight with a broken right hand. His first few right hands backed Marvin up, but after the injury, Marvin was able to walk right through them. Tommy had skill and heart. As good a fight as you'll ever see.

  • @uhmfar You stole my comment, amen to it!

  • Unbelievable fight till this day, Hagler's formula in this fight was clearly heart, mental strength, conditioning and a good chin. Legendary fight, legendary fighters.

  • Thanks for the classic

  • Hearns broke his hand in the first round, yet how many excuses did he ever make for losing? Not one! Today's fighters need to look at the efforts and dignity which these hearns and Hagler displayed that night and hang there heads in shame (especially Haye and Fraudley Harrison)

  • I remember seeing this live--what an exciting fight! Two great fighters going head to head, letting it all out, superb effort from both. I was a fan of both fighters so I didn't know who to root for. What a thrill.

  • I have never seen a better fight than this... in any sport.

  • MARVIN HAGLER,UNO DE LOS MEJORES PELEADORES DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS.....QUE TAL PELEA CON TOMMY ......ESPECTACULAR

  • 3:08 "PERHAPS one of the best in middleweight history" !?!?!?!?!!? FUCKING BEST ROUND EVER !!! no doubt about it ! :)

  • didn't hearns break his hand right at the begining of this fight? on hagler's head. what a fight!

  • @mikefmaine73

Tommy broke his hand in the first minute.

  • @joeygonzo and Hagler broke the rest of him in the eighth minute!

  • @joeygonzo

With the kind of power he hit Marv's rock-hard noggin' with, I can't blame the man!

  • Wow, I've seen this fight like 50 times and it still gives me chills. This is one of the few real boxing matches that was like a "Rocky" fight.

  • Hagler and Hearns KO'd 2 ppl.

  • @carmodifire Hagler had19 KO's on his record and many more TKO's.Get your facts straight before posting.

  • @MrHodgeheg123 No, it was one of those jokes: You say something bad about the people that disliked the video. 2 dislikes = 2ppl that got KO'd.

  • @carmodifire Now I feel stupid!!!!

  • @MrHodgeheg123 Nah, you're knowledgeable in boxing.

  • When the ref called time during the fight in the 3rd round because of The cut to Hagler,he asked Hagler "Can you see"...The Marvelous ones response... "I'm not missing him am I".CLASS.

  • who hits harder?

  • @theog67 Hearns, without doubt. He was one of the hardest hitters, p4p, of all time. He was known for the murderous right hand. However, Hagler was known for being one of the toughest.

  • Hearn was like, " What the...get off me nigga, dayummm"

  • Wonderful boxers! Old, good times! I wish they came back.

  • WOW...now thats a fight for the collection.

  • beautiful, just beautiful

  • AMAZING ,this sort of WAR ,doesn't happen anymore ,this was the glory days ,two warriors, both champions...what a scrap :)

  • Thomas fought the wrong fight! He had reach, height and speed advantage, why did he try to slug with a slugger? Another case of trying to please the crowd and not win the fight using smarts. Great fight to watch, silly way to fight on Hearns part.

  • MY NUMBER ONE IN MY TOP FIVE BOXING MATCHES OF ALL TIME. NO NEED TO PUT IN WORDS ABOUT THIS FIGHT. JUST LOOK AT THESE TWO GLADIATORS GO AT IT.

  • I tell people all the time: the greatest BOXING match was Ali-Frazier III. One of the greatest FIGHTS(if not the greatest) was THIS one, not to mention THE greatest round in boxing history, in ANY weight class, bar NONE!!!!

  • Hagler was definitely bitter in 1982, when Hearns backed out of their scheduled May fight with a sprained finger and Leonard builds up the Baltimore announcement in September

only to say he was retiring, Hagler was very disappointed. I am sure part of it was the 2 big paydays but also to show the world he could beat both fighters. They both made him wait for several more years. I must say I admire Duran for fighting Hagler in 1983 when Hearns and Leonard were avoiding him.

  • @77777johnnybravo Duran would have taken on Mike Tyson if his manager would let him! He didn't know the word fear

  • Hagler WAS the best at that time except for maybe Mike Tyson who just Destoyed is oppents. I think Hagler was ripped off in the Leonard fight but he did compromise this fight by trying to prove that he was a better boxer. At one point you can hear his poeple telling him, It's time to bust him up.. He should've beat the piss out of Leonard just as he did Hearns. Still a great fight tho.

  • @jessemy I think you're right. If Tommie Hearns couldn't stop him on the shots that he was able to land, what chance did Leonard stand of KOing Hagler? classic case of power vs chin. Hagler's power vs Leonards chin, Leonard's power vs Hagler's chin. Hagler clearly with the advantage both ways. If he had went in as a bully, who knows...

  • A lousy fight?? You're on drugs right? This 8 minute bout was one of the greatest fights of all time and it isn't just me that has said so. Marvin won this with body shots that took the legs out from Hearn and a granite chin that nullified Tommy knockout punch. If you think this was a lousy fight, you don't know jack shit about boxing.

  • do you have tommy vs uriah grant im dying to see that cant find it anywhere

  • @jaycm

    No.

    It was a lousy fight.

Tommy looked shot. Uriah was getting on him then Tommy sprained his ankle.

This is when I wished I still have my old beta tapes of boxing.

I had Tommy vs Shields one time even.

  • @joeygonzo i know it was but its a childhood memory.. me and my dad watched it together and was rolling on the floor when he sprained his ankle and his post fight speech was hilarious as well, we are both dying to see it :( thanks anyway

  • @JohnCLocafella

I remember watching in on Prime Ticket then ( later became Fox Sports ).

Tommy making that post fight speech, " we're from Detroit and we don't go out this way " was kinda funny .

I don't have the tape either.

  • There's only 1 guy that should be called Sugar Ray and it wasn't Ray Leonard.

  • @BuffaloHead444 in your opinion and funnily enough in Leonard's too but most others seem to disagree and call them both sugar

  • This is what made me a boxing fan , while im still a fan i have become dissilusioned with some fights.

It Doesnt get better than this

  • That was great. "Haggler is done, Hearns is done." But both still fighting. Amazing.

  • "It's Hagler, full of blood!" Love that line!!

  • Stop calling him "SRL." Society has really dumbed itself down. The younger generation has to shorten everything. He's not GSP, he already has a nickname so call him by it: Sugar Ray. Anyways... haha... this is one of my favorite fights of all time!!! His fight with Duran was epic too. Duran had some wars too!!! His fight with Ken Buchanan was epic, but the ending was controversial... damn referee.

  • i love haggler

  • THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOXING MATCHES EVER!

  • This is generally regarded as the best round of boxing ever in the middleweight division yet it is disliked !??! I guess there is no pleasing some people.

  • Now thats Boxing

  • Thanks for the video.. Great fight..

  • Even in s st4reet fight like this, Hagler is a sniper. Always looking to collect on every punch. This is the science.

  • Thanks for posting. That was pretty brutal

  • This is what boxing sorely misses these days.

  • still think amir khan would beat them both

  • Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard...the Golden Age of Boxing!! They sure don't make 'em like they used too!!

  • @SkorpionOne

Well Pacquiao, Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto... Those guys aren't easy game neither.

  • Comment removed

  • @SkorpionOne

Eheh, anyway Carlos Monzon would have demolished ALL of the previous names... :-))

  • @ezekielwahwah Eheh, anyway speculation....no way to prove it

  • @ezekielwahwah Eheh, anyway speculation no way to prove it.......

  • @SkorpionOne They all had cool names too, and they were all characters in their own right. You're right, boxing needs more elites like those again!

  • @SkorpionOne

    CARSON JONES!!!

  • @rufuspain33 Neeeeever heard of him.........

  • @SkorpionOne

That's right! No disrespect to Pac and May, but they wouldn't hang with the four you mentioned.
