Whoever thinks a 7.62x54R round won't obliterate an organ or blow off a limb is wrong. The rounds are very unstable after penetration and tumble, they don't necessarily come out the backside like a 223 or typical AR round. Even the entry can be very rough.
hey baconator 490 you need to get your 7.62s right. The 7.62x51 nato round which is a 308 winchester basically is'nt all that great of a round but the 7.62x54r round will mess you up really bad. 203 grain rounds I've used I've blown a deers heart out the other side of its chest along with bone and anything else attached or in the way. Any round even a 22 will kill a person or animal if shot to the right spot. My uncle knows he lost his arm to one in WWII blew it right off at the elbow.
@enfield1576 the 7.62-51 and 7.62-54r are IDENTICAL ballisticaly speeking.....both throw equal bullet weights withen 50 fps of each other with a SLIGHT nod going in favor of the 7,62-54r,and that's ONLY out of the m91/30 LONG RIFLE......you don't know much dude...think before you type stupid shit, because your only mis-informing the ignorant and pissing of those that know, like ME.
@1987dabears hey 1987, why don't you go play call of duty you lil homo. there's multitudes of ars that look like the ar 15, as well as the m4 carbine. you can even interchange some ar's barrels, and stocks but yeah it does most resemble an ar 15. but you still fail for being of the millions of assholes who use the COD comparison. homo, get a script that not everyone else has
@TheHandgunhero 150 roughly :P but honestly Ar15 would come in much more useful. that's why the us army issues m16s and m4's and for a very lucky few hk 416 aka m416.
I chose mossin nagant, over a .223 because the ammo is cheaper so ill get more target practice in. but still .22 is way cheaper, AT least at my local dealer.
nice.. i love mosin volleys! but the two good videos (including this one) had a misplaced rifle.. cant the AR just step out for a few seconds!? (the other video had a a guy with an ak.. im even an ak guy! but still step out...)
@crazeecoondog the .223 also drops like a motherfucker at 500 yards and is affected by wind easily. 223 also isnt nearly as lethal as 7.62 even if it does tumble. Stopping power is whats needed not being able to carry 300 rounds per troop. 223 isnt nearly as lethal so that means the enemy is injured but can still pop you if he can get a shot.
@baconator490 my dad has an interesting theory why we use the .223. See when you kill the enemy, he just dies, everyone keeps fighting, but when you hurt an enemy, 2 guys carry him off the field, bam 3 birds, 1 stone.but that's not why either.
@slimmwillis Many times when you hit a guy with a .223 he will still be able to fight with some medical aid. When you hit a guy with a 7.62 rifle round you take off half of that limb, or destory internal organs beyond repair. And many times the enemy cant even carry away the injured guy so our troops are stuck with healing a camel shagger.
@baconator490 A 7.62 is not guaranteed to take off a limb or put someone down in one hit. Vietnam proved that. The .50 BMG generally does what you said.
@John234pwns It wont take off a limb. I said half of the limb. But it will obliterate your organ if the bullet passes through it and it will cause a lot of internal bleeding anyways.
@baconator490 No, it won't obliterate an organ for sure, either. Especially with military FMJ rounds, they can punch right through with a minimal wound cavity.
The reason for a lighter weight bullet is so it doesn't kill right away. If a group of soldiers are on patrol and one of them gets hit by a 7.62mm and dies right off, the rest will scatter. If he is wounded from a 5.56mm (223) the rest will try and help, thus allowing the attacking force to get them all at once.
@chyorttt I'm sorry you feel that way but I'm going off what i have through in the military.
And if you want a better answer its cause the U.S. Military just wanted to carry more ammo. Almost 3 or 4 times as much ammo in .223 than 7.62 ammo because in Vietnam the general idea was throw as much lead into the air as they could and it was bound to hit someone.
@KilieusDarksbane there are many reasons we use 5.56 such as weight issues but its not to wound people, 5.56 also has better short range accuracy and less recoil
@TheHandgunhero you can't spray and pray with an ar 15, less you bump fire, and i don't suggest using it for assault. and honestly, if you use an ar for self defense, you're being coached wrong. ar are for taking the fight to the enemy, in conUS if you take the fight to them it's murder, but if you simply use a shotgun, or some kind of low penetration ammo for a HG than you can avoid long waits in the death chambers/prisons w/e
@KilieusDarksbane lol no, it's because there's less recoil, and generally more of them. cheaper to manufacture as well. the m14 cost more than the m16, just a lil history for you. i mean what you said was a good guess, but that's not why.

Doesnt look "exactly" like volley firing to me. Volley firing is the act of "lobbing" bullets fired simultaneously (the simultaneous part you did) at enemys too far to accurately shoot, and is just used to demoralize the enemy. At least thats the way it was with the mosin nagants way back when
even though the .223 round is smaller it still packs a punch with a whopping fps of over 3000. At close range being hit by one is nasty from all the force of the bullet and at longer ranges (past say, 30 yards) the bullet will hit and the back end of it tumbles through the target, ripping up whatever is inside making it a very powerful round.
well it was just a joke, sorry if I offended you, i just meant in comparison, its a lot less powerful. Almost, but not quite half the amount of energy. The mosin shoots upper 2k FPS. and has a lot heavier bullet. I do understand that AR's are capable guns :)
sure it has kinetic energy but its still a small round. The 7.62x54r round flies around 2800fps and the bullet is 3x heavier. I can trade 200fps for 100 more grains on the bullet

@slimmwillis I wouldn't use an AR for self defense. It penetrates too much. I'd go with a shotgun.
And it's possible to spray and spray with any weapon. It's all about how fast you can shoot. ;)

That's certainly questionable, the whole stopping power part of it. Infantrymen have been complaining about it since Vietnam, so somethings up.
Here's a point of measure for you: That 7.62 bullet weighs as much as a 5.56 cartridge.
