@thabib94 It's just like an F chord, with the thumb wrapped around to get the bass note--only it's a G note in this case, since he has moved it up two frets. Play a barre G if that is what you prefer.

he's playing all major barre chords, he uses a weird fingering for the g maybe that's a variation, but if you use major barre chords to play the song it sounds fine, just make sure you are playing at the right spot on the neck.

@shygu112 dude they are the same chords, its a regular barr chord for g, f or whatever, that is just how hendrix played them, just to be cool and different, same with john mayer, and britt, so you can do that or just play them normal, but it is harder to do it that way, no point in it at all except to be different

this really helpful. I learned this song a while back and have been playing it much differently. Only thing I'd say is to really show clearly where your fingers are on some of those chords; went a bit fast on parts like the "walk down" part.

A tip.. Don't use the thumb at all, it's not necessary. You're using it on the G and F chords, then you use "normal" positioning on for example the B chord on 7th fret, its actually a bit confusing.

The vid would probably be 25 minutes if he did all that. All the chords in the song are quite basic, so just learn them and you'll understand how he's playing it.

why does britt play the chords like that? i mean you can play the same chords in the normal positions... you know down on the first like... 4 frets... the whole song... why make it have so many more movements? its just easier the way i play it you know? oh well... i just thought it was weird cause britt is such an awesome muscian. this guy. eh. not so much. well he is good. but at teaching... not so much. sorry.

The reason you play the chords like that is because its easier to do the swingish style of strumming. It's a whole lot easier to mute the strings when you lay your index over the whole fret. You can every song ever that uses bar chords on the first four frets, the reason bar chords are used are stylistically and for a different sound. And some things are just easier to play with them. This guy is a fine teacher, get better at guitar.

he's playing the way the guy who wrote the song plays it. You probably could just use the basic chords at the top of the fretboard, but you wouldn't really be playing the song right. Plus, these types of videos are meant to help others get better at guitar. You get better when you don't take shortcuts.
