  • looks a little like al jardine.

  • la mejor version de esta cancion la hace DEL SHANNON

  • I wanna dance!!

  • man he can reach a high pitch do you do you wanna dance???

  • Very nice however he blew his brain due to his insane apetite for blow

  • @carlox1 Not true he was suffering from depression.

  • wow..outstanding...great post! thanks!

  • I was a moving estimator for an agency of Allied Van Lines, in Pasadena, CA., back in 1989 and I set up a move for THE Del Shannon. Sadly, he shot himself to death not long after, I don't know the details or circumstance but in the early 60's Del was the MAN. Some of us live an entire lifetime and never have the chance to be in the spotlight like Del was, so I figure it was better than he LIVED and lost than to have never LIVED at all. Eh?

  • I miss him so badly:((((

  • I loved him before someone on here said he was gay.........now I love him even more!!!! Great singer great Songs ....fantastic....classic .Gareth (Wales)

  • OMG this is still LIVE...Pain to get OLD..LOL

  • I prefer teh cover by The Ramones, but this is very nice too!

  • Bobby Freeman's original version is still the best. He's the only one who really sings it beautifully.

  • Awesome..

  • This is where it all started folks. Your grimy dirty underground was nursed to what it is today from this. PUNK 4561 YOUR JUST A NUMBER! Imma hater! RAAAAAAH!

  • @GagieBoi started with Bobby Freeman

  • @GagieBoi and a fool. haters are losers. own it.

  • @punk4561 You are the cancer. No fucking respect. The Ramones loved this guy, YOUR THE GAY ONE!

  • @punk4561 but they were not really influenced by this they probably got it from the beach boys because there favorite bands were like mc5 iggy and the stooges and the beachboys

  • @TheIllegalKind yes. but Del Shannon is still gay

  • @punk4561 and so what if he's gay arent we talking about music...

  • @GagieBoi: I agree with you.

  • by far the best version of this song

  • SHIT. THIS IS MUCH BETTER BY THE RAMONES !

  • Makes me proud to be from grand rapids michigan

  • Del Shannon was born Charles Westover in Michigan.

He was not Irish, but of Dutch heritage.

A real old school rocker from the early days.

  • he knocked this cover out of the park

  • Johnny Rivers version is by far the best I have EVER heard! Listen for yourself and then you will see how the song is meant to be sung, he is a true Icon and deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame! I agree Del has an amazing 1 of a kind voice but so does Johnny.

  • This the best version I have ever heard leaves all the rest a mile behind.....Cliff Lennon, Beachboys.....

  • I have so many versions of this song and like them all, Including the Beach Boys and the slow tempo version by The Mamas and The Papas.

  • Wonderful! THX!

  • Bobby Freeman Wrote This Song

  • 60s!

  • who originally wrote this song?

  • kelly was his best

  • he looks like Ben Stillers long lost uncle or something.

  • del shannon <3

  • Del Shannon sounds good on his own songs, but he did NOTHING for this one. When Brian Wilson revamped the original, however, he VASTLY IMPROVED on it! Dennis Wilson singing lead was the cherry on top!

  • @409442 - totally agree .. the Beach Boys version is amazing.

Click BB45s for rare Beach Boys and rock videos

  • sorry, but dennis wilson did MUCH better singing this.

    RIP dennis

  • Del Shannon was quite handsome. THis black and white with the shadows distorted his face. He did not resemble Frankenstein. He was handsome even in his fifties. Don't judge from this poor lighting.

  • @lukeloveslauraalways he has a very sculpted distinctive look. I have an uncle who looks much the same. Its a genetic strains that runs through the Irish some way.

This guy IS a PERFORMER, & his voice is incredible in so many ways. This guy is a musical Icon.

  • my old mum used to love this

  • ich bin frankenstein and ich sing good :)

  • please look up the ramones doing thins song

  • HAHA! he is ugly like HELL.

  • @kenttta he sounds, and looks like Moe from the Simpsons.

  • @kenttta as painfully insulting that is to a deceased star like Del Shannon i admit i lol'd, looks don't really matter though when you are rich and have talent.

  • @amabilis77 sorry it wasn't to your standards, ringo...

  • for my hypothesis Punk rock is alouder faster angrier version of Bob Wills and his western swing bands if you think i am full of BS then look listen on here and draw your conclusion but have an open mind

  • that is a huge argument of mine i think punks real roots go back to very eary rock n roll i.e. rockabilly, like the Buddy Hollys that took western swing they were dancing to in the early 1950s sped it up dropped the fiddle and piano and ta da rock a billy , now take most rock abilly 3 chords simple songs three instruments bass lead and drums hey sounds a lot like punk.

  • Nah....the fifties was the fartherst thing from punk rock, I lived thru both...btw...punk ended about 1982

  • @A444038 - yes.

but less to Buddy than to Link Wray and later, Johnny thunders.

  • this performance is so early punk rock.

  • Cliff Richard is beter. :)

  • ramones

    del shannon

in order of which versions i liked most of this song

    del shannon is awesome

  • what do you mean this is why you only weighed 98 pounds? what the hell does that have to do with anything?

  • I think he was implying that he danced alot.

  • This is why I only weighed 98 pounds in 8th grade.

  • The beachboys did this song also

  • I love the original, but Del did justice with his cover. He could cover anybody's song! Love and miss you Del.

  • @ladylittles Yes, when he covered a song he made it his own, made you forget the original.

  • totally worth it for those first 20 seconds! clearly sets up the Ramones version two decades later... it's got the distinctive Shannon grit!

  • this song is dope

  • Great rocker!

  • I really like Del Shannon and his music. I just don't think this particular renditon is his style. Too bouncy,

  • I think that Del couldn't help but sound bouncy with those girls dancing all around him. I agree that this isn't a real polished performance, but it's fun rock and roll!!

  • think he was trying to give the public what they wanted. he knew his time was comming to an end... shame though..

  • I don't know what it is about this 56 second performance, it's short, rough, and I watch it over and over. I love the song, Del Shannon and this posting. The girls are cute also.

  • was this del shannon or the beach boys originally?? Both recordings are great.

  • Bobby Freeman did it first, in 1958. He also had the biggest hit, reaching #5. The Beach Boys version got up to #12 and Bette Midler's up to #17. I personally like Johnny River's version the best, followed by the Mamas and Papas, which I don't think is on youtube anymore!

  • Thanks. That's quite the comprehensive answer. You know your stuff. Thanks again.

  • You're welcome.

  • 68enxy: I love the Mamas and Papas version, too...which was in stereo...so very cool to listen to. And yeah, you're right...it's gone.

  • the 4 seasons did it too

  • I just LOVE this 'live' version of Del singing "Do You Wanna Dance." He's even boppin' around a bit while singing that great falsetto. "Well do ya do ya do ya do ya wanna dance...?"

  • I'm dancing.

  • DELL HAD THE RIGHT IDEA

  • why dont you do itdel

  • Great. I love Del Shannon!

  • I love to see you in action here,so cool,Love always,caro
