  • Hey micheal, Just wanted you to know that i find your work very inspirefull, gives some motivation to go on with my painting career!

  • SHE BEAUTIFUL

  • At what point did you start using oils?? Was it with the orange??

  • I thought it was funny that you were so careful to use a "Mahl Stick" around her eyes, and then you take the brush and start wadding grey so that it would run down the page.

  • hi quick question what kind/s of cloth do you use for dabbing/wiping up excess

thanx for doing these they really help when im stuck on a piece

  • Gorgeous Work!

  • love reading your blog your vids are ok too

  • Micheal, you're wonderful!

  • canta los rostros pintados , afro167

  • hola soy de arica chile me gusta tu haces afro167

  • How many hours did this take you? Also, did you wait for the paint to dry before adding the blue or doing the orange part?

  • I like that you chose the orange colors instead of yellow. Isn't orange complimentary with turcoise/blue?

Sorry for my bad english spelling, to lazy to "google translate".

  • oh man. the whole decision making part is true. crazy...idk where im goin with this

  • Hey there, I'm Teri and I'm a brand new fannnn!

I'm trying to develop my own painting skills and I'm absolutely enamored with your style, I was wondering if you water down your acrylics and use them like makeshift watercolors or if they ARE watercolors? Either way it's really inspiring and I'd love to try my hand at a similar style!

  • I just seen this on deviantart, yeah got to say I'm in love with you haha :)

    This is amazing!

  • I am in an arts highschool in its visual arts program.

And lately I've felt a huge lack of inspiration,

    You just blew my mind.

    Thank you.

  • i envy you

  • You are a genius.

  • First of all I love your work! What kind of pencil do you use to layout your drawing on the canvas? Do you spray it with something to keep it from bleeding before you paint? What kind of paint do you use? I have such a hard time blending. Anyways, keep it up and I love your personallity. Keep true to yourself.

  • There should be a LOVE button because I absolutely LOVE it! AMAZING:)

  • Michael, thanks for the video. How many coats of fixative do you spray, and how thick do you spray it on before you start painting over the drawing? Thx!!

  • dobar si brate, radis dobro portrete, al ne znas tkaninu.

  • i love your choice in music. anyway, i have an account on dA, and I usually love to use inks because they act alot like water colors but have a much brighter value. but, now that i am out of school I do not have access to ink, or art stores that sell the right ink i am looking for. as i watch your videos, i notice that you use a type of paint and water it down then layer it as you go. do you layer the acrylic? and what kind of paper are you using?

  • omg your a genius :D:D:D I LOVE YOUR WORKS ! !! :D:D:D

  • DUDE I HAVE GOT 2 SAY GREAT WORK U ARE TRUELLY IN UR OWN ELEMENT AND JUS KEEP ON WITH THE GREAT WORK MAN

  • beautiful

  • :) yep. i definetely like the orange free style color better than the yellow you had earlier. :XD: How long do you think this took?

  • hola bueno andava vagando y cheke tus trabajos y me parecen geniales en especial los rostros me encantaron, k puedo decir genial bye

  • Question...are you using real people as models, photos, or are these from your beautiful imagination? I would like to try this using a photo of my daughter. Such intimacy, mood, soul and skill. My artwork will be a little braver for watching you work.

  • thats talent indeed

  • In the beggining, what was the first paint type that you used, with the eyes and the outline of the face?

Your art is brilliantly beautiful and very musch inspiring to other artists, I simply love your work.

  • Great stuff Michael!!! :)

  • what kind of paints do you use, michael?

  • Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

  • we are all so glad you decided to paint out those yellow rags!

the end product was way better after that

  • How do you take the acrylic off so easy with a rag. How much water is in the paint, not much it looked like when you had the sky blue over the eyes. Then you got it to come right off. Any tricks?

  • fucking amazing and so inspiring. I love the last minute decision you made, it really worked beautifully.

  • awesome work <3 ... question- how come you used watered down acrylic instead of water color?

  • so basically, u make a draw, then use acrylic (i think with water) and the use de oil for details?

  • @reyl yeah, thats what he does (:

  • Oh and I like your style also! :D

  • Your works are awesome! I'm a fine arts student here in the philippines and I'm starting to make you one of my art heroes! Good luck to your career and upcoming shows sir! :D:D

  • Wow!.. your'e Awesome!

    5* vid!

  • MIchael :D I love u. u seem like an awesome guy and im deeply inspired by u! Im new when it comes to painting and i was just wondering what paint you were using that was dripping like crazy... haha? So far ive only worked with acrylics and i dont know much about the other types of paint out there. Im guessing its oil but in the 1st video u used salt water and im wondering why? Please get back to me!

    Thanks :]]

  • I am just sooo happy right now coz i saw this painting in progress coz it's one of my favourite siince u did it, and i just knew u do vids!:D

  • I like it better with the changes you made as it gave the painting much more depth and freedom. Lovely!

  • watching you paint is so inspirational.

  • Hi micheal! I'm one of your greatest fans on DA XD

Can i ask you what is that instrument you use to support your hand while painting eyes???

I think it's really helpful to keep hands still while using long brushes..

  • Thanks so much! :) The instrument is called a Mahl Stick. It helps a lot to steady your hand when you are working on an easel. I just use a curtain rod. Any long sturdy stick will do. Hope that helps.

  • Sure! thanks a lot!! I'll make my own one soon! XD

keep on your great work! ;-)

  • Absolutely stunning!! whats the song that begins at around 5:13...?

  • Thanks! Songs are now listed on the info of each video. :)

  • @paintedfire it's called Noise control. i really love this peice.

  • you should do a madonna and child it would be beautiful ^^

  • I actually really liked the yellow :( But the change is awesome too!

  • name of the songs please

  • 1st song is definitely by Beck. It is his weird funky style and voice.

  • I could tell you don't sleep, lol,great paintings...

  • far out from cool, you just seem to be, seem to me, like that this is all you are , that is all you do, that this is all ment to be, away into your heart, away into your soul, it all just seems to be, seems to me, a beauty and a joy.

    keep on rocking man. x

  • Are the initial drawings from references or out of your head?

  • how i like the music what's the name of the first song? ^^ plssssssssssss

  • Great musical taste, great artist, interesting person... well damn.

I really do like what you changed with the yellow.

  • You are true inspiration to novice and experienced artists everywhere. Honestly, your imagery is so intense and emotionally captivating. Please don't stop.

As a side note. As beautiful as the finished product is, personally I believe that the simplicity of the pure yellow at first was a great base for the intense facial expression. Maybe that's not at all what you were trying to go for, heh =^-^=.

You've just made another fan. hehe

  • I'm glad I came across this, it's beautiful.

  • WHAT r u PLAYING HERE, who is the artist of the song, its great.... love your work just brilliant!

  • Australia by the shins is the first song

and the song around 8:30 is boy with a coin - iron & wine

  • wow. i am a painter too. i was curious like others. what kind of paint are you using when you are creating the dripping effects on your work? are you just mixing oil with paint thinner to create a fluid paint. or are you using that type of house paint some artists use?

  • FemmeFATE8, he can be using acrylic to create the dripping effects, you can use acrylic and oil in the same painting but use acrylic first as "base" or whatever 'cause u cant paint arylic over oil or mix them. otherwise there is special water mixable oil colour that can be thinned out with water. Im not sure what he's doing but it may be like that :P

  • he said he uses graphite, acrylic and oil

  • very nice job!!...lucky!

  • Love your work and seeing you do it. : )

  • man do you have adhd? you put alot of intro must start quickly !

  • This is absolutely gorgeous.

Did you use oils for this one?

I wish I knew when you were using what material. :) That would be so cool.

Wonderful vid. Always a pleasure to watch someone of your talent paint.

  • You are sooooooooooo talented. I love your paintings!

  • ok

just so i understand, you sketch the portrait first on a canvas than you paint over it. What do you use. Like what paint and other materials? Please clue me in!

  • emersonstem: if u sketch with pencil, charcoal or pastel u'll need to use fixative before u paint on it to prevent it to smudging after that u can use oil or acrylic, otherwise u can sketch in whatever paint u gonna use.

  • I could watch you paint all day. x.

  • woww

  • Beautiful work! I followed the link from Redbubble. You have a really inspiring body of work.

  • love the finished item, beautiful.

  • Hot

  • You have REAL talent my friend. Unlike so many talentless artists out there who call themselves artists.

  • I felt very high confidence of your hand

I enjoy a lot and I'm watching your artistic

    Thank you very

    But

Drew my attention that you draw a woman wearing a veil

    Can I say why?

What is something that attract you in this portraiture

  • Multi Talented... you really have serious talent plus you shine at keeping my attention. So many sensations to experience at once. COOL ! Very COOL. Later, for the love of Music, Comedy, Art, Humankind, Luna

  • I really enjoyed watching the level of detail you put into this piece (all of your work). The eyes are very captivating and the mood of the piece resonates. With a face like that you really couldn't lose when it came to the cloak. I did like the yellow but as you said as artist we have to decide what best reflects what we want to portray.

  • wicked dancing.

  • that's awesome, I've been trying to do that,

how to you smoothly blend the acrylics?

  • Your paintings are refreshin. the eye close up reminds me of ancient egypt

  • whats the title of that song at the veryyyy very very begining.

    thanks

  • the shins , australia

  • nvm man i got the song

  • wow man i really like your paintings :D

and whats that song called on starting arround 8:00 playing through to 10:00

  • Good choice on the change. While it did look great before the brightness of the yellow detracted from the face. The new look with the color change makes the face stand out more rather than putting the emphasis on the clothes.

I love you taste in music as well.

  • The final colour scheme clearly reflects her emotional state. However, I have to say that at 6:14, including the blue before it's removed, you have her wrapped in potential. There is so much hope reflected in the contrast between the colour of the blanket and her eyes, and her facial expression. I really think it could have gone either way. Thanks for sharing your process.

  • ur talent.

You remind me of sylar from heroes :D

  • I love your guide rod... I've gotta get me one of them! Blessings...E! Beautiful work, most of my beautiful work is put into the temperament of my puppies these days!

  • awesome.

  • thanks for subscribing! it's great watching this cause i'm painting too today :)

  • Terrific work ;)

  • Hey Michael. Beautiful, glad to have found you through Cheeky Chen!

  • I wish I could do that!

  • Michael..another pearl!amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love it, just love it!

    Thanks for sharing your talent!!

  • Great

  • waw

  • AWESOME!

  • First off I love your work, its very nice. I have a couple questions. How many layers or glazes do you normally paint over your initial drawing? It doesnt seem like too many, does that make your pencil lines visible? Would this technique work with water based oils, and if you keep layering with more glazes for rich colors would you still keep your detail? Anyway, you rule dude, mucho respecto. Please keep posting.

  • This now my favorite now.

  • Wow! You truly are an inspiration to me! Wonderful work!

  • omg! That is amay-za-zing!! Love it.

  • Thank you. You're videos are great. I'll let you know if anything comes up in the LA area.

  • My Professor said that watching someone paint was like watching someone eat a scrumptious chocolate cake. . . and not sharing.

    I think i agree.

  • The other night I watched National Geographic and they were in search of the famous "Afghan Girl" the one with the awesome eyes and your painting reminds me of that photograph.

  • Definately one of the most beautiful works of art I've seen. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • this was really wonderful to watch. What is the song playing at 8:26?

  • Thanks. It's Iron and Wine's Boy with a coin off their album The Shepherd's Dog. The CD is really good, you should check it out.

  • She looks like squeak...

Beautiful use of color. I LOVE her eyes. I really enjoy your videos, thank you for making them, oh and as usual I love the music you use.

  • Squeak? I'm not sure who that is...

  • She is a Suicide Girl

  • Another 5 stars Mike! Love the painting and your editing.

  • Thanks Alice, I really appreciate all your support.

  • excellent

  • Suziblu I love you

  • I really admire your paintings. This video is fun as well as amazing. Cool music too. I hope you entered the Boswell Gallery show.... :o)

  • I'm really amazed. I liked it yellow...but wow, what you did really brought it more to life. The colors were so vibrant and you mimicked the tears. I really liked all the colors. Your editing is really good too...I liked towards the end it looked like you threw a red line onto the canvas. And you can see someone walking in the hallway when you aren't on camera. Probably you...Loved it all.

  • definitely a fav michael! she's so beautiful. and you're amazing. =)

  • Thanks Stephanie!!

  • Wow Michael! She's amazing!!!! Loved the close up while you were working on one of her eyes! Brilliant!!! And I loved the painting even more once you started changing it...so much more dynamic and tied in so much better with the emotion of the portrait Outstanding job!!! 5 stars! Gonna add it to my faves! :)

  • Stunning. What a lovely presentation! 5*

  • I really like the painting. It kind of scared me when your face popped up in it that one time. haha. Great music choices too.

  • Yeah that part is really scary. I freaked myself out on that one.

  • oh.

    that is just gorgeous.

  • What do you paint on ? canvas or a smooth serface ?

  • This one is done on canvas. I gessoed it a bunch of times so it was nice and smooth. I usually paint on wood but lately I've been using canvas.

  • Cool ive never used jesso yet but looking at the effect that you get from it I think I need to experiment with the stuff

  • Got another question. Do you paint on masonite usually?

  • nice!

  • another blanket painting , yeaya?

    really good though

  • lol it's true. Thanks!
