Real Czech humour... great :) Nice to see that some in Europe have still been able to retain their culture. To those not familiar, Czech invented the sugar cube. However since joining the EU, Czech has been transformed from sugar exporter to sugar importer... a 35% downgrade in production. The cube dropping into the Coffee, a symbolic gesture of integration (or dilution depending on your perspective)... brilliant!

Yes, that bad EU, sugar beet was such perspective export product... Retaining our culture? Yes, but no in isolation way as some of our "right-wing" politicians suggest.

Maybe you are right, Czech should:

1. Support a project of centralised power not so long after it escaped the demise of the USSR.

2. Support the further and needless regulation over all aspects of trade and commerce, after spending years since 1992 to deregulate and open its economy.

3. Support isolationism by joining the World's most restrictive and inwards looking trading bloc.

Isolationism is when the EU dumps its agricultural surpluses on the poor countries of the World!

Perhaps, you are also right about Sugar. Why worry? Because EU farmers are guaranteed a price for their sugar 3x higher than the world price. Then there are foreign import restrictions - backed up by import tariffs of 324%. Export subsidies, meanwhile, allow surplus EU sugar to be dumped at bargain prices in African countries. Mozambique loses more than Euro 90 mill. a year - equivalent to its entire national budget for agriculture and rural development. Talk about Isolation! Stop the EU!

Yeah, good for them. After having lost their jobs because of the insane EU agricultural policy, the people of Mosambique must be really pleased to buy imported sugar at a low price.

Dear Will3205,

as a Czech, I completely agree with you. Before Mozambique's farmers were squeezed in this way, Czech sugarmakers were humiliated and their industry decimated, too.

If this is what kokpit calls landscape care, it may be a good idea if a good amateur plastic surgeon took care of his mouth and face. ;-)

The video clip is cool and carries a clear message: we will preside with common sense, not with an uncritical EU cult: our EU attitude is indeed mixed.

One correction: sugar cube IS NOT a czech invention. It was invented in Czech, but not by a czech inventor. I personally find this clip really stupid and I quite don't understand the threat in slogan

Mno jo, jen se utápěj ve své velikosti. Češi náhodou taky něco dokázali... Slogan je vcelku zajímavý. Mně se to líbí. Z počátku jsem se k tomu stavěl spíš negativně... ale ono to má něco do sebe. Jinak ta kostka... no ani Mengel nebyl vlastně Čech a jeho objevy se uvádějí jako české.
