From how I understand it Dennis wanted them to stop playing roboto live and just act it out like a musical theater peice with backing track. And the rest of the guys were like, "uh, we are a rock band, and noone really takes the story behind mr roboto seriously they just like the song" and he couldn't have that so he left.

Tommy, JY, and Chuck are freakin' ANIMALS on stage with the present day Styx, But they need DDY to be complete. This is a great vid! Thanks for posting it! The only thing about EVERY Styx - Come Sail Away song, is that not one drummer can get the ORIGINAL drum part correct. All they do is keep time, and add fill ins. The original was much more then that, and made the song with dramatic change overs, I really wish someone would get the drum part right for once lol, love the video though!

Look... age does make a difference. But this is NOT one of the best vocal performances Dennis has given. Why? IT'S OUTSIDE IN THE COLD! Air temp can really do alot to chenge your voice strength and tonal quality. This was something that was on TV and not really meant to wide release. His recording that he made the DVD and CD for with the orchestra... now there he is ON!

To me Dennis DeYoung is Styx. Tommy Shaw is simply great and has written some of the greatest songs of Styx but the mystery, philosophy and the whole idea that made Styx so special surely was a Dennis DeYoung thing!

As a member of ASCAP I can tell you that you CAN perform any song you want. Jones was sued for making money on it without paying royalties. As for Dennis, he performs all the songs he wrote, which he still has the song/author rights to. (Just remember there is a BIG difference in performance/recording rights and song rights.) And finally for his new music, he's released a CD in Canada that is pretty good. One track went to #1 in Quebec. This is where the legal wrangling hurts the US fans.

Dennis wrote all of the songs he sings with the exception of one Dennis/JY co-write and one Dennis/JY/Tommy co-write. He owns the rights.

And besides, you don't need to own rights to perform something.

I was at this concert also. Possibly the best concert I've ever witnessed! About 10 feet behind guy with big cowboy hat. Dennis and his band can still belt out the tunes. What a fantastic band!!
