@Hiddenjello What exactly is the point of comparing 60's-70's and even early 80's Musclecars to late 80's-90's and even 2000's rice box POS? They're not related in any way. American muscle cars were kings of their days back when noone knew what a Datsun 180Z or Toyota Supra MK1 was and they made on a good day, probably 150HP and handled like crap. People who keep saying muscle cars handle like crap are just idiots.

Still, if it came to a 60's, 70's or something a little later. Noone would choose a POS rice box or whatnot, they'd want the biggest and baddest musclecar of the era. Because when people think 70's/80's, they think Cuda, Mustang, Dart, Chevelle.

@68snatchback That's actually a good point. But then again, they probably couldn't find someone who was willing to have their Judge beat on for hours and hours. Unfortunately you'll rarely find drivers as it is who drive their cars daily, but it's next to impossible to find one who takes theirs to track events or beats on it. Too much money invested for that. Most of these cars are worth twice as much as a new car now

and if you want to compare '70s american iron vs european and japanese think about this: '70 skyline-100hp, '71 porsche 911 110 hp, if you compare the '63 galaxie 500 with the '63 porsche 356... no way europe wins. it had 90 hp. porsches were known for being dangerous and bad handling, and for the prize of a 426 hemi you could buy here in euroope a fiat 1500 berlina...

Anyone know the results from this shootout? Im really interested to see how the royal bobcat gto did. Those ram air Iv's are so rare and theres not much info on them. Also Back in the late 90's a guy had a 69 hurst scrambler and would bring it to a car show by my house every weekend. I'll tell you what that car was no joke. It had so much power for a little tiny car and it hooked up so good. I later saw it for sale for only 6,000 and it was real nice shape!
I haven't seen the show but I know the result of the quartermile shootout because there's a video out there. The Royal Bobcat was the fastest with 13 sec. The Hurst AMC SC/Rambler was a surprise. Every run was different. One run was good the other one bad. I think it got a low 14 sec. time
wish i'd saw this. tell you this, i'm a chevy guy... but i'd love to have any of these cars. but the tossup for me, considering all things would be the yenko nova or the sc/rambler. i bet that 427 nova crowhops a lot because it woulda still had the monoleaf springs in the rear. in 73 they added a few more leafs. i had a 74 with a big valve 350 and it sure would hook up good. still though, that sc/ramber. so cool. too bad there was no rebel machine, but that was a1970 model

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't give a flying toss about which of these cars handles, rides, corners or even accelerates better, so these tests are totally irrelevant! Looks and sound! That's what car manufacturers seem to have forgot these days! The only important thing is how a car makes you feel and not what it can do!
Actually, 440's were better on the streets than Hemi's. The Baldwin, Royal, and Yenko models were dealer equipped supercars. They were far superior to their stock counterparts. I doubt an LS6 Chevelle had anything on them. I'm not discounting the LS6's, but these cars were special too.
@Stucifer actually yes the yenco cars were badass the ls6 454 had the highest torque out of all the big blocks that coem in them the 427 was still bad tho is reved higher more hp. and alot lighter because they were the aluminum 427s that went into vettes

I saw something on MuscleCar TV and they put a bunch of old high preformance engines you could get from the factory on an engine Dyno to see what kind of True power they made. (excluding specials like Yenko, Motion, Mr. Norm Ect..) You should check it out. I think you might be interested in it lol. Quite Suprising haha
Yes they're missing a Hemi, but they tested 1969 cars so the LS-6 Chevelle wasn't important because it's a '70 model. By the '70 models there would also be a Hemi 'Cuda a fat Challenger, a Buick GS-X...

@r2dan first of all, its all in the driver, corners dont mean shit if you can really drive. muscle cars r the perfect drifting vehicle. i know from experience. but if you take drifting out, the 69 corvette, corners like most rices do now, or the ford gt40. another american muscle car that corners. hell even the shelby cobra. GTR35, put that up against the hennessy viper

@AviaMarine the new mustang and charger r both over 4000lbs and r great drift cars. the 69 charger only weighs 3600lbs the 70 challenger weighs 3000lbs. all great drift cars. they have 1 major thing in common with imorts used for drifting. they all have a light rear end. and another thing they have in common. during their time they were used for rally racing. yes even they rx7 was used fro rally back in the late 80s and early 90s.
@r2dan The common ASSumption about muscle cars is they can't turn at all. Now with the earlier muscle cars ('64-'67) that IS mostly true. However, the later musclecars actually handled quite well, especially for their day. Their biggest handicap was the gripless bias play tires that were available back then. Hit some corners with a Z/28, LS6 Chevelle or a 4-4-2 and you'll be surprised with how well they can corner with today's tire technology.

@generalleegoku Actually a Z06 will eat a viper. Vipers have probably the shittiest drivetrain in the entire market. The engine itself pushes over 750hp (I have seen one on an engine Dyno, with 80k miles and they stopped it at 750hp so yes it is true) but only makes like 5XX at the tires. While the LS7 makes 505 at crank, Its puts down anywhere between 460-480 hp at the wheels. And handles far better.

@RiceKiller191 dude. i know they r both fast. im all about american muscle. from 92-2006 the vette out shined the viper but when dodge put the bigger v10 in the viper they updated the suspendtion and brake and rear end after that the viper demolished the vette in everything except for braking becasue the viper dont have abs. the vette still lasted longer though since dodge discontinued the viper. atleast we still have 1 american icon.lol

my grandfather has a 1970 gto and although ill never probably be allowed to drive it ive drove in it and it was still great fun, some day i would love to own any muscle car in general, love them.

Anyone know the results from this shootout? Im really interested to see how the royal bobcat gto did. Those ram air Iv's are so rare and theres not much info on them. Also Back in the late 90's a guy had a 69 hurst scrambler and would bring it to a car show by my house every weekend. I'll tell you what that car was no joke. It had so much power for a little tiny car and it hooked up so good. I later saw it for sale for only 6,000 and it was real nice shape!

I haven't seen the show but I know the result of the quartermile shootout because there's a video out there. The Royal Bobcat was the fastest with 13 sec. The Hurst AMC SC/Rambler was a surprise. Every run was different. One run was good the other one bad. I think it got a low 14 sec. time

wish i'd saw this. tell you this, i'm a chevy guy... but i'd love to have any of these cars. but the tossup for me, considering all things would be the yenko nova or the sc/rambler. i bet that 427 nova crowhops a lot because it woulda still had the monoleaf springs in the rear. in 73 they added a few more leafs. i had a 74 with a big valve 350 and it sure would hook up good. still though, that sc/ramber. so cool. too bad there was no rebel machine, but that was a1970 model

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't give a flying toss about which of these cars handles, rides, corners or even accelerates better, so these tests are totally irrelevant! Looks and sound! That's what car manufacturers seem to have forgot these days! The only important thing is how a car makes you feel and not what it can do!

Actually, 440's were better on the streets than Hemi's. The Baldwin, Royal, and Yenko models were dealer equipped supercars. They were far superior to their stock counterparts. I doubt an LS6 Chevelle had anything on them. I'm not discounting the LS6's, but these cars were special too.

@Stucifer actually yes the yenco cars were badass the ls6 454 had the highest torque out of all the big blocks that coem in them the 427 was still bad tho is reved higher more hp. and alot lighter because they were the aluminum 427s that went into vettes

I saw something on MuscleCar TV and they put a bunch of old high preformance engines you could get from the factory on an engine Dyno to see what kind of True power they made. (excluding specials like Yenko, Motion, Mr. Norm Ect..) You should check it out. I think you might be interested in it lol. Quite Suprising haha

Yes they're missing a Hemi, but they tested 1969 cars so the LS-6 Chevelle wasn't important because it's a '70 model. By the '70 models there would also be a Hemi 'Cuda a fat Challenger, a Buick GS-X...

@r2dan first of all, its all in the driver, corners dont mean shit if you can really drive. muscle cars r the perfect drifting vehicle. i know from experience. but if you take drifting out, the 69 corvette, corners like most rices do now, or the ford gt40. another american muscle car that corners. hell even the shelby cobra. GTR35, put that up against the hennessy viper

@AviaMarine the new mustang and charger r both over 4000lbs and r great drift cars. the 69 charger only weighs 3600lbs the 70 challenger weighs 3000lbs. all great drift cars. they have 1 major thing in common with imorts used for drifting. they all have a light rear end. and another thing they have in common. during their time they were used for rally racing. yes even they rx7 was used fro rally back in the late 80s and early 90s.

@r2dan The common ASSumption about muscle cars is they can't turn at all. Now with the earlier muscle cars ('64-'67) that IS mostly true. However, the later musclecars actually handled quite well, especially for their day. Their biggest handicap was the gripless bias play tires that were available back then. Hit some corners with a Z/28, LS6 Chevelle or a 4-4-2 and you'll be surprised with how well they can corner with today's tire technology.

They said the 09 Challenger can't do burnout when you have to be careful with the throttle actually... Oh well, i challenge you to find me a 60's and 70's japanese sports car that outhandles a muscle car... Yeah, those 1800GT skylines... Or to find the famous death trap, the early 911... Post 67 muscle cars handle better than all those, with good tyres.

@generalleegoku Actually a Z06 will eat a viper. Vipers have probably the shittiest drivetrain in the entire market. The engine itself pushes over 750hp (I have seen one on an engine Dyno, with 80k miles and they stopped it at 750hp so yes it is true) but only makes like 5XX at the tires. While the LS7 makes 505 at crank, Its puts down anywhere between 460-480 hp at the wheels. And handles far better.

@RiceKiller191 dude. i know they r both fast. im all about american muscle. from 92-2006 the vette out shined the viper but when dodge put the bigger v10 in the viper they updated the suspendtion and brake and rear end after that the viper demolished the vette in everything except for braking becasue the viper dont have abs. the vette still lasted longer though since dodge discontinued the viper. atleast we still have 1 american icon.lol

they were only great because they were mass produced/average cars. Now adays if u want that kinda power u needa spend big bucks...back then it was like a regular car for a regular price that happen to come with 300+ hp.
now adays its impractical to own one. there Gas guzzlers. and a very bad damper system for that amount of power... made them a bitch to handle going into and out of corners fast.
