  • @lakeobilt1 you are a penis please go away

  • DX7 preset #27

  • its amazing that a person that cant sing......wins a grammy..... but it happens all the time........

  • @lakeobilt1

If you are refering to the vocalist in "Bon Iver"..

Why the fuck are you even clicking on the vids when you obviously dont like it?

That's just pathetic, rediculous, anoying & childish.

    Please go away.

  • @lakeobilt1

its amazing that a person without a brain...... can post a comment on youtube.... but it happens all the time........

  • @lakeobilt1 its amazing that a person that has no taste in music... posts on this video... but it happens all the time

  • @lakeobilt1 It's not about being able to sing with perfect pitch, it's about making people feel something. Justin Vernon is an absolute genius. The sad thing is when Grammys are awarded to people who don't even write any of their own songs. If you're too blind to see that buddy, I feel sorry for you.

Bands like Bon Iver and Castlecomer are the ones that should be winning Grammys, and I'm bloody glad Bon Iver have got there with this album.

  • @lakeobilt1 why.....so many......dots.....its....unnecessary

  • 214,559? I could've sworn I watched this more times than that...

  • this song is really really nice, its a masterpiece. But I the lyrics are hard to understand. If someone has the time to explain what this song is about, ill be really greatfull for it :)

  • this song makes my soul feel peaceful

  • This reeks of Bruce Hornsby. First time in a while I payed attention to an SNL performance and liked it.

  • I have listened to this album everyday since I first found it, after loving For Emma. And every time I do, I get to this song and can't help but pull over and or sit back. It helps me think and helps me remember the good life I have had.

  • I feel special, my name is Beth...

  • Love the song...his new album isn't too great though...i love his other works though(for emma, forever ago is amazing as is blood bank)

  • This is One of Mans few attempts to produce a 60's sounding piece in the 21st century.

This is probably the only successful attempt. If anyone could pull it off, it would be Justin Vernon

  • @jamespwest523 I was thinking more 80's....

  • words cant explain what i just heard.....genius

  • Man, this should be on Top Gun's soundtrack.

  • Genuine song writing. You feel everything he meant to express.

  • lyrics are so deep!

  • Lol how gay is this. Sounds like some Meatloaf shit

  • @GayClipsForGayPeople your username has "gay" in it twice, sounds like someone is yet to come out of the closet ;)

  • @whyshouldalex He has clearly come out of the closet if he's used the word gay twice...

  • @whyshouldalex you said it!

  • Babies should be made to this song.

  • If this is the best song on the album then Im definitely not buying it.

  • very much an eighties throwback.

  • This shit sounds like Phil Collins.

  • @stagedivecitypromo phil collins ain't that damn bad you cocksucking sqiuntin ass nigga baggot faggot dildo humpin bumpin faggot.

  • @drdurpu Shut up bitch...Bon Iver is way better than Collins. In my opinion, Phil Collins only has one great song and one alright song.

  • this song made my day!

  • Heard this on SNL and it literally took my breath away... AMAZING. But man the album version sounds flat! It sounds like it's being played through a cell phone.

  • @doakes00 The SNL version definitely sounded better, but I think this is top-notch too. I wish someone would upload the SNL performance to YouTube though so I could convert it. It was magic.

  • @phenomcats oh, that SNL performance was absolutely brilliant! it brought tears in my eyes.

  • @doakes00 yeah all the live versions are sooo good

  • This song reminds me of being 6 or 7 and half-awake late at night in the backseat of my family's car as we're pulling into our driveway after a long drive... oh, the 90s. It just feels so right lol

  • @Briggie07 soooo true

  • Its like if Coldplay had a kid with talent and then tried to be everything his father wasn't.

  • It's like if Peter Cetera and Coldplay had a baby. I looove!

  • Bruce Hornsby called, he wants his keys back, ha, I kid

  • @thatssomething1 Also Justin called, he wants some of Bruce's hair, ha, I kid again

  • they are so good during live performances...

surely one of the best bands to perform live

  • the keyboards in this are so nostalgic of the 80s

  • So many positive memories/vibes pop into my head when I hear this.

I'm usually against songs/artists who use autotune or sound too 80's but this is a definite exception.

Here's to Bon Iver pulling an Arcade Fire at the Grammys. =]

  • SNL brought me here too...wow a legend is born ....this guy is so amazing! This guy and Adele is restoring the faith in music again.

  • SNL brought me here

  • just performed this on snl <3

  • it's growing on me... but still a blast from the past on the album <3

  • christopher cross.

  • the hawser rolls, the vessel's whole and christ it's thin! :( wahhh

  • Sounds like a song played during the credits of an 80's movie.

  • Reliving the 80's. <3

  • This song blows my mind

  • bon iver, you so awesome

  • you can def. hear "The Road Not Taken" by Hornsby in this

  • what you are listening to right now is Bruce Hornsby style and Phil Collins style into one amazing song written/recorded/and played by Bon Iver

  • This is way more Bruce Hornsby than Toto.

  • so 80's

  • That's so Phil Collins...

  • This song is quite different to the stuff he usually writes. I think it fits in really well with the album, Lisbon fades into it brilliantly.

People throw the same "80s" line at Sprawl II by Arcade Fire. Maybe I would have fitted in well in the 80s because they are my 2 favourite songs on 2 amazing albums.

  • this is the best van morrison song i've ever heard

  • Best song on the album imo

  • This totally sounds like an 80s ballad. Not that that's a bad thing. :)

  • Justin is one of the most lyrically gifted people to ever make music. This song, once you unravel all the metaphors, is probably one of the most powerful on the album in my opinion. its amazing. I love how he uses silence and quiet so well... such a dream. Not many people can make passages as deep as his and then make them work as beautifully in music as he can

  • So 80's. I love it!

  • on repeat for a month now... not stopping anytime soon

  • So I was at Bon Iver's home-coming show in Eau Claire on December 12th. Bon Iver is my favorite artist and I've always loved this song, but it was certainly not my FAVorite on the album. But when they played it... I can't describe it. It floored me Especially the instrumental part at 3:38.. it was completely profound and it just overwhelmed me and I just sat there motionless. I felt like I was having an existential experience, and I still don't understand it! So unexpected, but so mindblowing!

  • 58 people don't like the 80's

  • @ThirdAlternativ well the 80's sucked... its just this bands use of 80's themes feels really f**king good.

  • This is the best thing I have ever listened to.

  • this is by far THE best song in 2011 (whole album is amazing)..keep up good work

  • @drPop990 you should PROBABLY just listen to every love ballad EVER that came out between 1985 and 1993.... i think you would find them to your liking

  • @PLBIV ok this is love ballad, but when u compare this song and everything else that came up in 2011, well u got to admit that this is the best stuff..cheers!

  • fuck my life this is so good i don't know what to do! I saw them live in the beginning of december. I moved to a new cold country after living on an island my whole life. They make me feel warm and cozy when it's -12 degrees outside. His voice is so godly, i want to hug him and thank him and cuddle with him. Bon Iver really makes the iver bon

  • its the 24th and its what im playing this christmas

  • Is this really what people want back for music in 2011? WTF? I don't understand so many of the critic's new indie stars?

  • @davidsask Bon Iver doesn't have to be just an old guitar and Justin Vernon. Don't get me wrong, I love that. But this is his project, and he found a use for his keyboard. And what a terrific song to end the album. You obviously aren't a fan, you would be able to appreciate this on some level if you did.

  • this made me think of John Martyn's 'small hours' for some reason. anyone know it?

  • @EPICBEAR73 It's not utter garbage. Each to his own.

  • This is so unusual. It sounds like one of those deep relaxation hypnotic songs.

  • Bruce Hornsby - are you kidding? Bruce is the greatest piano player there is. You can't seriously compare this to Hornsby.

  • is this bon iver or michael bolton??

  • This song reminds me SO much of Peter Gabriel. In the BEST way possible.

  • Bruce Hornsby and the Range, anyone?

  • album of the year for me ,and bon ivers best ,no question

  • Hey, I don't know what everyone's complaining about. There are few sounds I hate more than electric piano, but they sound RIGHT in this. "'Beth/Rest' is the death, but it's a good death. It's good winter. But it's a rest; it's not this final thing. 'Beth' seems like this really cool name for a place you just go to be in paradise forever..." Someone is writing songs about this?! He can put all the keyboards he wants in it!

  • i never cry but i almost started bawling

  • This song sounds like its from the Free Willy soundtrack....and I mean that in the best way possible

  • @ObserverDriftMusic "best way possible" are words I just used to describe this song too.. Because that's basically the only way to describe this masterpiece.

  • I'm trying to choke down the '80's of this. Bon Iver is worth it.

  • “The album ends with horn-heavy “Beth/Rest.” “I’m the most proud of that song,” says Vernon, who is cagy on the details. “It’s definitely the part where you pick up your joint and re-light it.”

  • 100 of these views might be mine. Man, this song moves me.

  • This song is incredible solely for the lyrics. If you're going out on such a limb to make music in this vein, you must have good words to back the sensation up, and I don't know what Justin was reading or inspired by in writing all of this, but the sequence of descriptions get me every time. They make a reason for the music to flow so eloquently around them.

  • I agree with Allmusic. This album is alguhably bad, and is pretentious to boot, posing as a 'masterpiece'. Experimentation doesn't always work out too well, and this is a good example of one that people still embrace just because it's 'different'. Putting chocolate syrup of a chicken wing is different, but that doesn't mean it's some kind of delicious gourmet that only you hipsters out there understand and appreciate.

  • @dasnake1234 Stop sipping the Haterade

  • @dasnake1234 Did it ever occur to you that I listen to the album because I enjoy it musically? I'm not a "pretentious hipster," I just know good music when I hear it.

  • PRY IT OPEN WITH YA LOVe!

  • just brilliant !!

  • He's playing a Korg M1 sound for the electric piano. That's a popular keyboard from the 80's. Hence the reason for this having an 80's quality. That sound was used for a lot of 80's hits.

  • Everytime I click on the replay button, the piano part the first second of the song, there is something inside me that is kind of waking up and wants to jump inside of me. Sounds creepy, but whatever, wonderful song and talent.

  • The album is pretty great indeed. I do like this one because it's different than all the rest. Very 80s but it has some other quality about it that i can't quite put my finger on.

  • eargasm. I can't stop humming the melody

  • nice nice nice....its cheesecake for the ears

  • i cut off Nadeah Miranda mid-verse for this?

  • amazing amazing amazing. I LOVE this one. I can physically feel something inside me when I hear it. It's amazing.!

  • This is the best song on this album, hands down. Its unique (for him/ the album), tranquil, mesmerizing, and just amazing. I could listen to it on repeat for hours and hours.

  • I ain't living in the dark no more.

It's not a promise, I'm just gonna call it.

    Goddamn, I love this album.

  • Definitely shows the Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Hornsby influences in his music. The lyrics are just incredible.

  • I don't know why everyone feels the need to criticize this song. If you don't like the 80's feel, click that dislike button and get out. just respect the fact that Bon Iver is exploring different sounds so the album doesn't end up being a monotonous piece. but either way, this man is genius and so is his music. it earns more respect than all of today's mainstream music put together.

  • wow. this is beautiful. just like the other songs on the album.

  • This song has such an 80's feel to it.

  • This is sooooo fantastic. Haunting and touching. "It's not a promise, I'm just gonna call it" literally punches me in the heart every time.

  • Justin is being sincere. There is nothing ironic about this. It is both healing and cathartic because he is doing his thing with no consequence. Jameson was right.

  • someone please explain the album cover? please i suck your cock

  • you should listen to the piano version of this song, it is fucking awesome

  • This is a great album, but this song is a joke. Is Vernon doing his best Phil Collins impression?

  • @heysharpshooter exactly how ive been trying to put it!

  • WOW!!!!! His music takes me to another place, perhaps the place on the album cover...

  • @bigmuffmama Looks like BonIverSUCKS 2...

  • Stunning tune. Thanks for posting it.

  • This song makes me think of Karate Kid

  • I grew up on Tupac, Outkast rap, hip hop and R&B but todays music is so bad that It has made turn to other types of music.

I am so glad that I did, otherwise I would have never discovered "For Emma Forever Ago" and "Bon Iver".

  • @bigmuffmama

Well go listen to some Waka Flaka and Wiz Kalifa so you can feel like a hardcore thug.

To me thats a whole lot Gayer...If thats a word

  • Wow, Toto is sounding good these days!

  • All we can say is thank Mr and Mrs Vernon for creating your son!

  • the last song of the album .... let's hope there are more!

  • sacrifice elton john

  • Incredible. Makes time stand still.

  • @bigmuffmama I did realise what sense he meant it in, I uh don't really remember writing this though haha guess I was just pissed off that night.

  • bon iver makes me realize that life actually IS beautiful.

  • Beth/Rest is one of those songs that sounds familiar the first time you hear it. reminiscent of the 80's for a couple reasons. 1. the keyboard sounds like what Steve Winwood used in songs like Valerie and Finer Things. 2.Combine that with the fact that Vernon's well versed in pop/rock ballads of the 80's and you get instant familiarity. Not everyone is going to be entranced by this track, because.. if you don't "get it" you won't- and that's ok. I do, and it 's the best song I've heard in years.

  • @iamwhere So when you dislike the song, you're just not "getting it." Riiiight.

  • One of the better tracks of 2011

  • @brownheatxman Well Im a BIG GAY FAG then!!! Hahaha

  • @brownheatxman So what your saying is only homosexuals like this song? Are you really trying to imply that? Your derogatory wording suggests that your vocabulary is small and that you're a dickhead with no real purpose in life. It's not that I love this song, but your comment is unnecessary and out of line. Grow up a little and find better words to express how you feel about this song. So you don't like this song? No one gives a shit, just don't listen to it again, Simple as that. Man up a bit.

  • (Love) In The Air Tonight

  • Sweet! My name is Beth! :)

  • It's sooo 80's, but I fucking love it. Phil Collins vocals ftw

  • I really love Bon Iver but I don't really like this song. I guess I'm just not so into the whole 80's power-pop ballad sound.

  • Comment removed

  • It feels like I'm listening to the end credits of a lethal weapon movie and that's not a bad thing .

  • My roommate stuck this on repeat for roughly 12 times during one of our deep chats about life, relationships, and basically everything.

  • @exchangestudidnt what a pussy

  • @kjurko1 I will rape you with a rusty pickaxe. Don't fuck with my jam mother fucker.

  • best song on the new album

  • Anyone who doesn't like this is musically impaired beyond repair!

  • @singingbeautifully22 im tellin you, most people ive talked to really dont like anything ive showed them, like CALGARY, SO GOOD!!! but no...no one digs him. I cant get enough.

  • @ateheartbeets I know! It is ridiculous how nobody has good taste in music!

  • @ateheartbeets I know it is crazy. His music is so beautiful. I actually got to see him live at his concert at the greek theater this year. It was seriously the most incredible thing ever.

  • this song is just amazing

  • this is so naff

  • "This is axiom."

  • "I ainʼt living in the dark no more, It’s not a promise, Iʼm just gonna call it" that line always gets to me, great song, great band!!

  • o.o.

  • Did I just step into 1983?

  • I fell in love with this music just the other day when my friend showed it to me! I am so thankful to you SS!

  • anyone think this just sounds like some dude with a pro tools rig and a bong?

  • @kitchitwee

    Not at all...

  • This song sounds like Sting... still a good album anyways...

  • I heard him do an acoustic version of this song on NPR with just him and a piano. It was really good. If the 80's style is too much for you on this version try the acoustic version out. It is really good. Seems to have a much sadder feeling than this version however.

  • This is my favorite song in the Bloodsport soundtrack
