Honestly I think Smells Like Teen Spirit was #1 because when a lot of people think 90s they think Seattle, Nirvana, and flannel. Some think NSYNC and Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls but most I know think Seattle. I think the countdown was less about quality and more about the songs that whoever made the list felt defined the 90s.
