Ma Granda worked in these yards for years, was a boiler-maker (plural plaques killed him) and Shop Steward etc', used to drink in the pub near where he was reared: "The Carnock Bar" on the corner of Dellingburn Street, Joe Roddy was his name, lived in Cardross Crescent with ma Gran.
Loads of others used tae lowp the walls for a drink in The Oban, Sorenson's or Fred Flynn's (Crescent Bar).
Video brings back auld memories, cheers for posting.
This is great, I lived in Kilmacolm 1979 to 1983 and we often visited Greenock! I vaguely remember some of these roads...if you have any videos from Kilmacolm as well from that period, please can you let me know? Many thanks!
Enjoyed that. Great piece of social history with the big sheds and cranes of Kincaids and Scotts and the crowds of men on the streets and coming out of the Knowe Road canteen
Brilliant to see it again how I remember it as a wean. Scott's and Kincaid's is about the biggest shock value. Loved seeing the Reliant Robins and double deckers driving around Greenock again. Thanks for this.
Brilliant vid Brian, my dad used to work for Boags (and then Anaplast then BPI, hes still there lol Allister Webster (scary Bob)). in them days we had good export and loads of jobs at pretty good wages, wish i was born 20 years earlier, life in them days was so much simpler!!
