Since then the U.S. has been fighting Taliban only, the same guys who defeated the Soviet Union in the 1980s. It may be a noble cause for us to fight the Taliban for an unlimited number of years like we fought the Communists in Vietnam. My only question is does the U.S. have the will to fight such an unlimited war and make such a sacrifice?

During the 14 official years of the Phil-Am war at the turn of the century, America killed more Filipinos than the Spaniards in their previous 333 year colonization.
And back then, the Americans also said they waged a war "to save us" from the Spanish and our own corrupt leaders, when in fact we did not need saving because when America entered the war, we already had a revolution for independence and were whipping the buts of the Spanish. History truly does repeat itself. I see in Afghanistan and Iraq the same resilience that my ancestors once had. They failed because back then, few people gave a shit(among those was Mark Twain, look it up).

I was trying to make a point that what the USA is doing now is quite similar to what it was doing to the Philippines at the start of the 20th century, hence the phrase "history truly does repeat itself" and those freedom fighters are in a way, similar to our freedom fighters a century ago.
However, if you do want to go off on a tangent, I do know that the USA did get its biggest resistance from the Muslims in Mindanao and that is where most of the Filipinos were killed by the American troops. Now why is it that today there is still this resistance by the Muslims in Mindanao to win autonomy? It looks like even the Philippines can learn a lot of the US's mistakes.
There was never any accurate count as to how many Filipinos were killed in Mindanao, and if there was, it would only refute your claim. The claim I made was based on a census. Since then the U.S. has been fighting Taliban only, the same guys who defeated the Soviet Union in the 1980s. It may be a noble cause for us to fight the Taliban for an unlimited number of years like we fought the Communists in Vietnam. Leave and over time, given peace-time conditions, the place will slowly recover economically, and if the people choose the Taliban as their rulers then that's up to them. Apparently, you assumed that TE said that the USA butchered thousands of Filipinos in Vietnam.
And i did not want to introduce a new topic. I was trying to make a point that what the USA is doing now is quite similar to what it was doing to the Philippines at the start of the 20th century, hence the phrase "history truly does repeat itself" and those freedom fighters are in a way, similar to our freedom fighters a century ago.

However, if you do want to go off on a tangent, I do know that the USA did get its biggest resistance from the Muslims in Mindanao and that is where most of the Filipinos were killed by the American troops. Now why is it that today there is still this resistance by the Muslims in Mindanao to win autonomy? It looks like even the Philippines can learn a lot of the US's mistakes.

There was never any accurate count as to how many Filipinos were killed in Mindanao, and if there was, it would only refute your claim. The claim I made was based on a census. Before the Fil-Am war, the population of the Philippines was over 9 mil. After the war, it dwindled to less than 8.
