Michael Parkinson was one of Britain's best at television interviewing. He admits this interview with Meg Ryan one of his worse... Benefit of the doubt a bad day for both concern...I still say no one should have been subjected to those questions.

I was never a Meg Ryan fan.. But when I watched this interview. I felt for this women.. At the time I felt Parky was back on the piss. You lost me then and still do because every interview since retirement you have condemed Meg Ryan ..

I always heard that she was rude in this interview!! I would have told him to fuck off , but that's just me when someone is so confrontational. She did really well. Yes, this was out of character for Parky!

Just to add what a stupid bunch of boring bloody questions... She was looking and thinking "ask something friggin interesting" the guy is as exciting as 10 farts in an elivator :)) I only wached this because the boring old fart was on another shit pommy show I was involintary waching (Top Gear) and they mentioned the interview the old fella admits he screwed up... @camilleri1971 I agree. Definitely wasn't one of his best interviews that's for sure. I'm used to Parkinson being a little less confrontational and non-biased. I think Meg Ryan's reaction was justified.

i think she was, as she states, not comfortable with the media game, she threw Parky off balance, not intentionally, there's a lot of artists like meg that don't sit up and play the game as they'd like, this was one of those moments. no ones fault, Megs great Parkys great. Meg's agent should not have agreed, obviously the studio putting her into these places she's not comfortable with. That said, Megs an actor, she was there to promote the film, so be nice. respect the man Ms Meg.

I honestly can't understand some of the comments here. Why would anyone expect her not to be defensive? Parkinson was openly hostile in his questioning.

As an interviewer, it's his job to at least ATTEMPT to put his guest at ease. He did not.

She spent a lot of time talking about the truth, and Parky was actually trying to cut through her ice-maiden act and find out the truth. It's his job to not get put off - he's an interviewer not a host at a party. Good on yer Parky for not putting up with an uncooperative and pretentious guest.

russel is far from innocent the affair, for both was a publicity stunt by the film producers to promote the crappy film .Russell is an arrogant twit but he has continued to work Meg seems to have passed her use by date. prooff her attempt to get rid of the squeeky love interest roles and be more gritty, and failed miserably. it s hard to get answers from a zombie ,no matter how good an interviewer they may be. Good luck Meg she might be a lovely girl but on that interview she showed nothing

I heard about this and assumed that Ryan was the awkward one but it's not so. She was perfectly decent and prepared to go along with the interview. It was Parkinson who turned on her and made her self conscious. His technique was defensive and awful.

Wow, poor judgement. I very much disagree. She came into the interview being very cynical and rejected everything Parkinson had to say. She had no respect, whatsoever and she doesn't seem to be very bright. You have to watch it in context and see the start of the interview to see how it is her fault.
