You know, ol' George DID do a song about who was going to fill the "classic" singers' shoes-- and then people dump on Josh Turner for trying, however short of the mark you might think he is, to keep George Jones's flame burning bright with this very good rendition. Is it George's version? No. Is it a version I'd listen to if I didn't have George's around? Hell yeah! It suffers in comparison, true, but stand-alone, it's a damned good song by a damned good singer-- enjoy it for what it is!

His voice made me believe the story and now I understand what you meant about the art of his music". His voice wasn't perfection...that's what makes it perfect!
I didn't think I'd like this song redone by anyone but Josh did a good job of it. I have to say though, this is one song that just can't be redone. George Jones put his soul into it just like Ray Charles put soul into "Georgia on my mind". I love Josh Turner but my mp3 of "He stopped loving her today" will always be Mr. Jones' version.

@ChurchPianistFL Could you be referring to Daryle Singletary? If so, I agree with you. Although Josh is my favorite current country singer, Daryle sings great traditional country music.
he should just do an album of nothing but covers of older songs like this and king of the road maybe some of these yo yo's today would learn what country music is all about
