Until we are able to scientifically prove a uniform code of conduct, equal for all, that everyone can buy into with much good will, as a logical way to act, humanity will continue to progress with regional power cycles. In the UK cameras were put up to monitor crime and protect the citizen however if you get mugged there is never footage available because cameras are being focussed to collect revenue from drivers committing dubious driving offences.

Hang on a min. The bill that this guy talked about never got past. Yes the UK has got the most CCTV camaras but to be honest, I've never seen nor heard of any real miss use - there are restrictions. They are not allowed to be placed in residential areas, you will only find camaras on major roads, city centers, industrial areas and sometimes near local shops. In the UK, if you have a problem with the police then you can seek help from organisations like the Independant Police Complaints Commision

It is impossible to drive on most UK roads without speed cameras being used to milk motorists with speeding fines. More worrying is the precedent it sets to spy on individuals. I wouldn't count on seeing ID cards, atleast for quite a few years as it hasn't gone throught governmeny and there are alot of MPs that don't want ID cards. One way to not get a speeding ticket, is to not speed in the first place. If you really want to drive fast, you can goto places like Evington Airfield which has a 2 mile long runway where it is still legal for you to go full throttle and then use that car to drive home. I know this country is a ridiculous police state by experience. I have just been convicted of a felony for filling out a passport application wrongly 10 years ago.
I'm 37 years old and did nothing wrong even then. I just didn't have 50 thousand dollars to fight it. I have a clean record and actually used my passport to attend college in Europe where I graduated. When I went to apply for a new passport after it was stolen I didn't tell them it was stolen but I lost it. It was different from what I wrote 10 years before where I stated it was "lost".
For this mistake I was charged for something they never planned to charge me for but since 10 years later I made a comment to a passport official it was stolen 10 years later he said I lied on a passport application 10 years before because I put "lost". This country is so damn ridiculous and I don't feel comfortable living here anymore. I'm moving back to Europe after I serve my probation or prison term, who knows.

ok 2001 i was put on paxil and then after takin it for a fwe years i started having psychosis around 2003 i had a psychotic break. spent some time in hospital of course they balmed all my rec and spiritual drug use. anyways i got off paxil itook me a year to get better . after what i think was a bad reaction to paxil they in turn gave me 2 more drugs to cope with the psychosis. i becmae addicted to klono still am.i take seraquel now i was on respirdal and zyprexa. its taken years to get better

I have read dozens of academic articles that argue just the opposite. Food additives (particularly sugar) can give a kid a toothache, but not cause ADHD. I have worked with kids who are ADHD, and their behaviour is not normal hyperactivity found in kids.
I can pass a drug test, a psych eval, lie dedector, etc. Yet still I'm prevented from doing what I need to do in life. The rehab process of the system, I hate to say it, but sure does make itself look like a joke--from my perspective. Thanks.
i took my son to a Psychiatrist when he was in his teens to have him tested for ADHD. We were told he was on the borderline of the diagnosis and it was up to us whether we try the meds. We (my son and I) chose not to go with the meds and my son focused his energy in sports and other activities. There are ways to deal with these issues. My feeling is that it is too easy to "control" the energy of kids. I thought kids were supposed to have energy. There may be cases where it's needed, not all

As far as homeopathy - that was a test question. Homeopathy is a fraud. Often confused with holistic medicine, I recognized it at a recent visit to a "holistic" clinic and will never go back there. You should study up on it so that you can avoid it.
I agree with you in the main part but I do teach two children with ADHD and they completely take over the class and take away other children's learning because of their behaviour. What else can we do with them??? I would love answers myself.
Put them in Gifted programs. They could be further along than the rest of your students. I did the same thing when I was a kid. The material was either too easy (from learning it much faster than the class) or I already knew it, and I started socializing way too much... or I'd daydream the class away.

Most Staes don't even have a partial incompetency. they do on paper - but just try to get the Courts to work with that concept, - won''t happen. As a result, he has become a non person legally. I know of two murders in my local area by chavs who went to my secondary school where some of the individuals involved got away Scot free.

Hang on a min. The bill that this guy talked about never got past. Yes the UK has got the most CCTV camaras but to be honest, I've never seen nor heard of any real miss use - there are restrictions. They are not allowed to be placed in residential areas, you will only find camaras on major roads, city centers, industrial areas and sometimes near local shops. In the UK, if you have a problem with the police then you can seek help from organisations like the Independant Police Complaints Commision

I was born in the UK and spent the first 22 years of my life there (I am 23). Cameras are being misused. It is impossible to drive on most UK roads without speed cameras being used to milk motorists with speeding fines. More worrying is the precedent it sets to spy on individuals. Next they want ID cards, DNA databases and other liberty zapping measures that are not conducive to a free society. I wouldn't count on seeing ID cards, atleast for quite a few years as it hasn't gone throught governmeny and there are alot of MPs that don't want ID cards. One way to not get a speeding ticket, is to not speed in the first place. If you really want to drive fast, you can goto places like Evington Airfield which has a 2 mile long runway where it is still legal for you to go full throttle and then use that car to drive home. There are a lot of good people in government that will fight.

I'm 37 years old and did nothing wrong even then. I just didn't have 50 thousand dollars to fight it. I have a clean record and actually used my passport to attend college in Europe where I graduated. When I went to apply for a new passport after it was stolen I didn't tell them it was stolen but I lost it. It was different from what I wrote 10 years before where I stated it was "lost".

For this mistake I was charged for something they never planned to charge me for but since 10 years later I made a comment to a passport official it was stolen 10 years later he said I lied on a passport application 10 years before because I put "lost". This country is so damn ridiculous and I don't feel comfortable living here anymore. I'm moving back to Europe after I serve my probation or prison term, who knows.

ok 2001 i was put on paxil and then after takin it for a fwe years i started having psychosis around 2003 i had a psychotic break. spent some time in hospital of course they balmed all my rec and spiritual drug use. anyways i got off paxil itook me a year to get better . after what i think was a bad reaction to paxil they in turn gave me 2 more drugs to cope with the psychosis. i becmae addicted to klono still am.i take seraquel now i was on respirdal and zyprexa. its taken years to get better

It is shocking and sad to me to learn how many children in the foster care system are under drugs for ADHD, depression and anxiety. I would say almost 1/3 of all children in "the system" are under Big Pharma drugs. Shocking and sad.

I think some medication could work but its impossible to know because its so over prescribed its sad, anyone who sees a doctor these days is nuts.

I know what its like to live in a police state. I was born in the USSR (East Germany), lived there until I was 6 years old. If I decide I don't want to live in the US anymore, are soldiers going to machine gun me as I try to sneak over the border? If my uncle goes to prison for deserting the army, are the US government going to conscript his son as a replacement? If you were to actually visit a real police state you'd realize how utterly foolish you sound.

I agree that the United States is "more free" than the USSR was. I'm also glad I was born on this land.
Tyranny exists on many levels.
Being less of a slave does not equal freedom. The "it's worse over there so be happy here" argument holds no water. With that argument, I could say "you should be happy living in the USSR, look at what's happening in Uganda."
Who gets to decide which freedoms we get and which ones we don't? Who has the authority? Who draws the line?

There is always going to be less freedom when you have government. It has always been that way. Even the earliest humans lived in groups, and there was always someone in charge who said whats what. Look how most people are raised, with parents telling them what to do. Its the way things are. Honestly, mankind as a whole has more freedom these days then they ever have in any point in history.

But again, like newgtguy said, partial slavery is STILL slavery - which is still bad. While Americans are grateful for the freedoms we have, it is EXTREMELY important for us to not continue to be COMPLACENT & COMFORTABLE with our freedoms because there's always someone out there fighting to take away the very freedoms that we have.

Psychiatry is not a "mechanism of social control". Psychiatry may, in theory, provide a mechanism of social control. But it is not a fair description of psychiatry by any means. Your description is more like doing social control.
Dropping bombs on Japan is not doing science by any means, it is dropping bombs on Japan.
Everything is a system of control and no one is in control. Nobody ever chooses a warped description of reality. They are just inherent to the system.

I have read dozens of academic articles that argue just the opposite. Food additives (particularly sugar) can give a kid a toothache, but not cause ADHD. I have worked with kids who are ADHD, and their behaviour is not normal hyperactivity found in kids.

i took my son to a Psychiatrist when he was in his teens to have him tested for ADHD. We were told he was on the borderline of the diagnosis and it was up to us whether we try the meds. We (my son and I) chose not to go with the meds and my son focused his energy in sports and other activities. There are ways to deal with these issues. My feeling is that it is too easy to "control" the energy of kids. I thought kids were supposed to have energy. There may be cases where it's needed, not all

What I want to know is, when did a bored disruptive child become ADHD? I think there are a lot of smart children out there being supressed by drugs simply because they have nowhere to release all their pent up energy.

That doesn't mean you can't use the method to discover something else.
unfortunately right now it's mostly used for discover ways to maximize profit, and in medicine, that does not include discovering actual cures.

I don't know how to reword that question to make it any more clear.
If science ask to question, "how can I control people" then it comes up with answers about how to control people.
The method isn't flawed, what flawed is the question being answered by the method.
The theory of homeopathic medicine doesn't make any sense to me but I've never tried it and it know several people that swear by it. So, I reserve judgment.

The only connection that the "question" has to the scientific method is that the hypothesis must be testible (or falsibiable). I don't see how this is controlling. It's a necessary restriction.
As far as homeopathy - that was a test question. Homeopathy is a fraud. Often confused with holistic medicine, I recognized it at a recent visit to a "holistic" clinic and will never go back there. You should study up on it so that you can avoid it.

I agree with you in the main part but I do teach two children with ADHD and they completely take over the class and take away other children's learning because of their behaviour. What else can we do with them??? I would love answers myself.

Put them in Gifted programs. They could be further along than the rest of your students. I did the same thing when I was a kid. The material was either too easy (from learning it much faster than the class) or I already knew it, and I started socializing way too much... or I'd daydream the class away.
