Unfortunately most games with cover systems today have super boring combat. You move a few meters then take cover behind a chest high wall, wait for enemies to pop their heads up, headshot them and move another few meters to take cover behind a chest high wall. Repeat. Oh and there you wait for your health to regenerate like Wolverine.

This game still had the fun running and gunning.

I am not a crazed Gears fan, but I can safely say that this game is what inspired the majority of Gears' mechanics. An official producer for the game said so. I remember reading it quite clearly. This game itself has nothing to do with Gears of War, that you are correct, but its mechanics does. So please, stop trying to defend Gears of War for some silly reason.
