I first heard Ricardo in a warm-up room at the Woodwind and Brasswind in NYC. At the time, I didn't know who was playing, but I remember thinking - this is the best clarinetist I've ever heard ("creamy" sound and amazing tone color!). Someone then mentioned that he was going to audition for Philadelphia, and I knew he was going to win the job - Bravo Ricardo!
Very happy for Ricardo, I know him since he was 13 or 14, beggining to learning to play the clarinet with one of the best teachers in the world, Mr. Leslie Lopez.
It is a cocobolo wood Leblanc Legacy, one of the only 3 that currently exist. (I was just in Vancouver at Morrie's shop a few weeks ago and played one of the other 2, which Mary Backun plays in the Vancouver Symphony).
For those who are interested, Backun is planning on releasing a cocobolo version of the Legacy for the commercial market in the coming year.
Maestro Ricardo...Excelente mi hermano...se que viene en su sangre la musica como en todos sus hermanos que conozco, como Jaime, reciba mis felicitaciones.
He is my favourite clarinet player. I heard him in Maryland 4 years ago playing the Nielsen. I also have his "French Potraits" C.D. Exquisite playing!! He definitely has given me fresh inspiration for the clarinet.
He is not only a superb musician but a humble individual as you can tell from this clip. That is a much needed attribute in this day and age in WHATEVER you do.

I love this guy....he is so funny! The reason why he chose clarinet: the right combination of keys and wood...priceless!!!

@CherylGlitz, also not too shiny (as brass or sax)...just right :-)
Exactly why I chose clarinet as my instrument. That said, the instrument is hard and some times even mysterious!
