wait.. how am i supposed to learn to write it?? all you said is 'learn' but i dont know how to!! do i go a website and learn or learn off of the pictures that you showed for like half a second??
@iamacupcakee This is just a study method.... if you type in "hiragana" or "katakana" into a search engine you'll get a big list of them, like an alphabet. Just sit down and memorize them, the old fashioned way. We all did this with the alphabet at kids - it's easier than people think.
Hey, some people are just good with languages and I think she's one of them. @biohazard93808 uh Yeah OK ive heard that serveral times id like to take each person that tells me that & after ONE Hour of studying ask them 2 days later with a chart mixed up Kanji. then see how they do. Besides many Books & people on here Have the kana chart WRONG anyway. you can still from that yes ... but
@Raymasaki Kanji is different, it is Chinese symbols adapted to the Japanese writing system, so yea If that was the case I would fail completely, some of them are so freaking complex. But I was able to memorize the hiragana that quickly, and I know them all. Although I'm still a little spotty on the katakana though.
@Raymasaki It only takes one day, it all depends on your method. For me, I printed off some romaji song lyrics, sat down, and rewrote them in hiragana, then in katakana. One song, one day. Maybe one or two characters weren't in there. I already had a page with the alphabet written in romaji for me to fill in with kana, so I knew which those were immediately, and just repeated them a few times until I had them down, too.
@Raymasaki You think just because you couldn't do it, no one can? If you didn't read what I said, I did it just to learn them. Does it matter if you learnt it by writing in katakana? The sounds are the same. I'm not stupid enough to write it as ホッカイドウ. In fact, I'm not even stupid enough to write it as ほっかいどう. 北海道 is how I write it. Idiot, you're the one who brought UP kanji, then you say we weren't speaking about it? Read your OWN posts. "2000 Kanji in a week. you must be a special. I award you 2 pieces of Mochi" OMG HEY. That's what YOU said! Wow, we really weren't talking about kanji.
@Raymasaki As for learning ゐ, are you kidding me? It's been out of use for HUNDREDS of years. You'd look like a complete idiot if you wrote ゐ in your compositions, unless you're a scholar studying old text. I would bet there are many native Japanese who don't even know what that is, unless they're taught it in history class or something. You're completely ignorant. You couldn't do it in one day, or even one week, so no one can do it? Glad to know you think so highly of yourself.
@Raymasaki The people that have been commenting here aren't five years old. They're teenagers and adults who have went through school and know how to optimize their memory. You know those people who study the night before the test and do amazing? They're the ones who learn kana in one day. The human mind can retain a lot of information for short periods of time. We learn all the kana in one day, then use them while they're stored in short-term memory, so they gradually move to long-term memory.
@Raymasaki Way to not read what I wrote! Good job! No wonder you're so bad at learning kana, you don't even have the attention span to read a paragraph in English. "You clearly have poor material if it doesn't have information about っ and the other things." (That icludes kyo and kyu) On top of that, learning and mastering are two completely different words. Look up their meanings. Finally, thou is in modern day dictionaries, too. But you still look like an idiot if you say it.
@Raymasaki Okay, so you just said it's possible to learn in one day after all of this arguing that you can't learn it in one day? I took three hours to learn hiragana, and three hours to learn katakana. Which is, hey, only two hours shorter than your estimate. I must be SUCH A LIAR 'cause it's two hours shorter than how long you said it'd take. Good job losing your own argument.
@Raymasaki My favorite prefecture of Japan is Toyama. I like the way the mountains meet the ocean, the vast array of local foods there, the quality of the cold-water fish (I'm a huge uni fan) and the creepy, down-to-earth midnight festivals is Odawara.
....oh wait.... that wasn't a question directed at me, was it? ごめ〜ん…
@Raymasaki Oh, so you think you're Japanese. Okay. That explains everything. :D
@nekohakase What a coincidence, my favourite is Toyama, too. ^^ But that's because my host family was absolutely amazing in Takaoka. I'll never forget how scared I was to be there, and how comfortable they made me feel. I think I got one of the best families! The others were all going to karaoke and bowling, while I got to go to ikebana and shodou classes. (Well, we went bowling once, too. XD)
You look good as a reporter!! ;) Congrats on God Hand Teru. I was surprised to see you in the very first scene!!!! lol Are you working on that one?? :)
@teamkilo1 I'm kind of a mutt... hee hee... I'm a Hungarian American, born in Chicago, but moved around Europe for most of my life. Now my parent's home is in Dubai, and my home is in Kichijoji, Tokyo, Japan! :)
I love your Japanese! I've been learning for two years and am no where NEAR how good you are. I wish people would apply themselves more in my class; they blow it off and then forget how to read basic kana, then they fall even more behind in kanji. For those who really CAN learn the stuff, it's really boring and depressing :|
can you teach simple sentences i really need to know how to speak in japanese coz rite now im in japan and only a few people know how to speak english i would really appreciate it if you though me......thnx
It's best not to further alienate yourself from a language by forcing the learning environment to be unnecessarily foreign and unfamiliar as well. Edith Piaf is very popular in Japan, by the way: many of her songs have Japanese karaoke versions.
It's ok. We understand. Life is hectic, and then when we get time to relax we tend to want to do just that. Making videos is hard.
So you started learning five years ago? That's intense. I learned Hiragana, but I am having trouble remembering it, and understanding its purpose. Can you write an entire paragraph in hiragana if you wanted to?
That sounds like it requires an extreme amount of dedication. I hope I have enough dedication to offer.
I keep getting myself down, because I find it hard to remember hiragana. Are there sites that have paragraphs in pure hiragana? That would help me remember what sound each symbol makes, instead of writing the alphabet over and over again. And is there a site with a list of hiragana words?
You sound very natural when you speak Japanese. I'm envious! Hopefully one day I will be able to speak as fluently as you. :) Maybe in 3 years (since I'm already on my second year).
wait wait wait... i start first with what, hiragana, katakana, kanji, or any?
i started off with hiragana already, it's quite easy, it's just difficult to get them to look right... they look, WEIRD XD
anyway, thanks, you're being nice, and WOW, 5 years O_o... you mean it? ouch... good thing i'm not in a hurry to study it, since i'm studying it at my own accord P:
You know something ?? You have one fantastic sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh I got from this. I don't know if it was intentional , but the sudden cut to black and white with the 1940's music in the background struck me as being clever.
I am not sure that this video instantly improved my Japanese though. I was looking for some magic tricks. Maybe chapter two will do it for me :-)
I wish I had time to subtitle my terrible nihongo, but im too lazy to translate to edit the videos I make haha. I really like the style of how you make your videos :D
Hey,your speaking is amazng!Great, well done! Can I ask you just one think?:P I am learning Katakana but i can't understand how to learn Hiragana?I think its difficult...But anyway, you did a great job!:)
Actually, it's probably a better idea to start with Hiragana, because it's used more often than Katakana is. If you MUST use flashcards, write a katakana on one side and a hiragana on the other side, so that you're forced to get used to the association of one with the other, and not the association of a kana with an English spelling.
I started learning Katakana reccently with a book I bought called, "Let's Learn Katakana". I usually work on it every night before I go to bed and I'm getting better and better at it :D By the way, I love all your videos and hope to see more soon!
Sorry, but I'll have to disagree with you. It's not fair to expect people to learn kana all in one day. I'd say at least a week for hiragana and another week for katakana
I learned both in the eight hours it took me to fly over to Japan on the airplane. Anyone can do it - just concentrate! People start out studying by thinking it's harder than it is. That's already a 壁 - a wall they have to overcome. To start out thinking it's easy really does make it so.
On the other hand, everyone is different. That's why I plan to put a week between videos, and not just a day.
Mastering Japanese is certainly not easy but I think its something anyone can accomplish if they put forth sufficient effort. IMO, the keys to success are 1) an unwavering belief that you can reach fluency, and 2) not looking at the study process as a necessary but painful process, but as something akin to a fun hobby, in other words have fun studying!
So true what you say about just doing it,just sit down and study.Hai sai,yai biin Niiru, hajimiti ugana bira.*Wonders if my teacher was Japanese!* ( p _ - )!!
I love the drawings among the videos, they are so funny and make the video more interesting.
I learned how to write hiragana and katakana in about three days - each day for each type and one day for both. I'm the slow type when it comes to study, and I disconcentrate too easily.
Right now I don't have much time... 15 minutes is the most I've got due to night classes. I hope I can improve my japanese, since I'm going to level 3 in march.
You did good then! Fifteen minutes is a lot more than most people do. I hope you move up soon... Good luck to you!. Looking forward to your videos too! :)
Extremely amusing, and you are truly a stern but attractive taskmistress whom anyone would happily obey.
But I'm sure you are kidding when you say Japanese can be learned fast. Not only do you have to learn a whole new set of words for everything, you have to learn a whole new way of writing.
It's all dependent on how much time and effort you put into it.... If it's only an hour or two a week, it will take months to understand even basic conversation. But once a day for a couple hours... will teach you a great deal more.
OK, I see you're serious. Having tussled with another language (German) before, and failed miserably, I think I am just an odd outlier on the old bell curve. I had a terrible memory even when I was young.

JessicaHalo 1 year ago
@Raymasaki Way to not read what I wrote! Good job! No wonder you're so bad at learning kana, you don't even have the attention span to read a paragraph in English. "You clearly have poor material if it doesn't have information about っ and the other things." (That icludes kyo and kyu) On top of that, learning and mastering are two completely different words. Look up their meanings. Finally, thou is in modern day dictionaries, too. But you still look like an idiot if you say it.
JessicaHalo 1 year ago
@JessicaHalo you also avoid MY sentences & questions.
you'r such a Dumb young anime fan! EVERTIME i get into an argument its from some Dumbass newbie! IM NOT "bad" at learning kana. Ive fukin leanred it
in 01 & it took me several Days. YES i guess i could have learned it in one day IF i sat there for 8 hours going over it without stopping.
Raymasaki 1 year ago
@Raymasaki Okay, so you just said it's possible to learn in one day after all of this arguing that you can't learn it in one day? I took three hours to learn hiragana, and three hours to learn katakana. Which is, hey, only two hours shorter than your estimate. I must be SUCH A LIAR 'cause it's two hours shorter than how long you said it'd take. Good job losing your own argument.
FYI: Anime sucks.
JessicaHalo 1 year ago
@Raymasaki And by the way, you are bad at learning kana. "私の名前 わ Ray です
私 わ 音楽 に はまって います"
Way to use the wrong wa.
JessicaHalo 1 year ago
@JessicaHalo NO shit. using WA is an inside Joke with Japanese people.
so i wont explain it. other people pointed it out. im well aware of it.
its odd & as corny as "Go the light is BLUE"
my question for you is what is your favorite prefecture of Nihon?
Raymasaki 1 year ago
@Raymasaki My favorite prefecture of Japan is Toyama. I like the way the mountains meet the ocean, the vast array of local foods there, the quality of the cold-water fish (I'm a huge uni fan) and the creepy, down-to-earth midnight festivals is Odawara.
....oh wait.... that wasn't a question directed at me, was it? ごめ〜ん…
nekohakase 1 year ago
@Raymasaki Oh, so you think you're Japanese. Okay. That explains everything. :D
@nekohakase What a coincidence, my favourite is Toyama, too. ^^ But that's because my host family was absolutely amazing in Takaoka. I'll never forget how scared I was to be there, and how comfortable they made me feel. I think I got one of the best families! The others were all going to karaoke and bowling, while I got to go to ikebana and shodou classes. (Well, we went bowling once, too. XD)
JessicaHalo 1 year ago
@JessicaHalo Did you ever go to 風の盆? (Kazenobon?)
nekohakase 1 year ago
@nekohakase No. I was only there for one week. It was a very short homestay. >:

@teamkilo1 I'm kind of a mutt... hee hee... I'm a Hungarian American, born in Chicago, but moved around Europe for most of my life. Now my parent's home is in Dubai, and my home is in Kichijoji, Tokyo, Japan! :)

I love your Japanese! I've been learning for two years and am no where NEAR how good you are. I wish people would apply themselves more in my class; they blow it off and then forget how to read basic kana, then they fall even more behind in kanji. For those who really CAN learn the stuff, it's really boring and depressing :|
I'll be checking out more of your videos later!

can you teach simple sentences i really need to know how to speak in japanese coz rite now im in japan and only a few people know how to speak english i would really appreciate it if you though me......thnx

if your teaching japanese why are you playing FRENCH music?
delicoustoiletwater 2 years ago
It's called cosmopolitanism.
It's best not to further alienate yourself from a language by forcing the learning environment to be unnecessarily foreign and unfamiliar as well. Edith Piaf is very popular in Japan, by the way: many of her songs have Japanese karaoke versions.
nekohakase 2 years ago
The Japanese love French music.

nekohakase 2 years ago
That's funny. lol You told us no excuses and not to be lazy but then you got too lazy to make the next video. It's ok...
hermitcrabcare 2 years ago
LOL You're totally right. I had better get my butt in gear... I am using work as an excuse to have to time....
nekohakase 2 years ago
It's ok. We understand. Life is hectic, and then when we get time to relax we tend to want to do just that. Making videos is hard.
So you started learning five years ago? That's intense. I learned Hiragana, but I am having trouble remembering it, and understanding its purpose. Can you write an entire paragraph in hiragana if you wanted to?
hermitcrabcare 2 years ago
Thank you.
yeah, I can write in Hiragana, katakana, and kanji without problem at this point. Only the first getting-used-to-it is a bit hard...
nekohakase 2 years ago
That sounds like it requires an extreme amount of dedication. I hope I have enough dedication to offer.
I keep getting myself down, because I find it hard to remember hiragana. Are there sites that have paragraphs in pure hiragana? That would help me remember what sound each symbol makes, instead of writing the alphabet over and over again. And is there a site with a list of hiragana words?
hermitcrabcare 2 years ago
ok,the best way to learn japenese is to watch subbed anime,i learn alot of words that way like

I'd be pretty disappointed if you didn't.

wait wait wait... i start first with what, hiragana, katakana, kanji, or any?
i started off with hiragana already, it's quite easy, it's just difficult to get them to look right... they look, WEIRD XD
anyway, thanks, you're being nice, and WOW, 5 years O_o... you mean it? ouch... good thing i'm not in a hurry to study it, since i'm studying it at my own accord P:

You know something ?? You have one fantastic sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh I got from this. I don't know if it was intentional , but the sudden cut to black and white with the 1940's music in the background struck me as being clever.
I am not sure that this video instantly improved my Japanese though. I was looking for some magic tricks. Maybe chapter two will do it for me :-)

I am doing Japanese tutoring in the US.
I should let my students watch your video.

Hey,your speaking is amazng!Great, well done! Can I ask you just one think?:P I am learning Katakana but i can't understand how to learn Hiragana?I think its difficult...But anyway, you did a great job!:)
91azerifan 2 years ago
Actually, it's probably a better idea to start with Hiragana, because it's used more often than Katakana is. If you MUST use flashcards, write a katakana on one side and a hiragana on the other side, so that you're forced to get used to the association of one with the other, and not the association of a kana with an English spelling.
nekohakase 2 years ago
I started learning Katakana reccently with a book I bought called, "Let's Learn Katakana". I usually work on it every night before I go to bed and I'm getting better and better at it :D By the way, I love all your videos and hope to see more soon!
<3
SophieHatter 2 years ago 2
Sorry, but I'll have to disagree with you. It's not fair to expect people to learn kana all in one day. I'd say at least a week for hiragana and another week for katakana
Ninensei18 2 years ago
I learned both in the eight hours it took me to fly over to Japan on the airplane. Anyone can do it - just concentrate! People start out studying by thinking it's harder than it is. That's already a 壁 - a wall they have to overcome. To start out thinking it's easy really does make it so.
On the other hand, everyone is different. That's why I plan to put a week between videos, and not just a day.

Mastering Japanese is certainly not easy but I think its something anyone can accomplish if they put forth sufficient effort. IMO, the keys to success are 1) an unwavering belief that you can reach fluency, and 2) not looking at the study process as a necessary but painful process, but as something akin to a fun hobby, in other words have fun studying!
shimewaza 2 years ago
Agreed! It's easy if you put your mind to it.
registerjp 2 years ago
日本語をマスターするということは簡単なことではないけど努力さえすれば誰だってできることだと思う。成功する上で重要だと思うのは1)「私が流暢になれる!」というゆるぎない自信と2)勉強をつらい作業ではなく、楽しい趣味みたいなものとして見なす、つまり勉強を楽しむ!という二つの様子だと思う。
shimewaza 2 years ago
So true what you say about just doing it,just sit down and study.Hai sai,yai biin Niiru, hajimiti ugana bira.*Wonders if my teacher was Japanese!* ( p _ - )!!
supercross1985 2 years ago
I love the drawings among the videos, they are so funny and make the video more interesting.
I learned how to write hiragana and katakana in about three days - each day for each type and one day for both. I'm the slow type when it comes to study, and I disconcentrate too easily.
Right now I don't have much time... 15 minutes is the most I've got due to night classes. I hope I can improve my japanese, since I'm going to level 3 in march.
きょつけってください! またね!

nekohakase 2 years ago
Extremely amusing, and you are truly a stern but attractive taskmistress whom anyone would happily obey.
But I'm sure you are kidding when you say Japanese can be learned fast. Not only do you have to learn a whole new set of words for everything, you have to learn a whole new way of writing.
Give me a break!
dianasatyr 2 years ago
It's all dependent on how much time and effort you put into it.... If it's only an hour or two a week, it will take months to understand even basic conversation. But once a day for a couple hours... will teach you a great deal more.
nekohakase 2 years ago
OK, I see you're serious. Having tussled with another language (German) before, and failed miserably, I think I am just an odd outlier on the old bell curve. I had a terrible memory even when I was young.
So more power to your committed students!
