"Alex" as we call it is one of the worst, shittiest places in Berlin. Nothing but rund down, crime, neo nazis and gangs and drugs. its a shit hole, but tourist are easily impressed.
I agree to an extent, particularly about the gangs and drugs, (never smoke in the Platz, you'll be begged from more often than you can blink) but Alex is still a great place. Good shopping, great bars in the Park Inn and the outdoor bar right now is fab.
I'd rather be in Alex on a Friday night than near the Neptune Fountain!
