  • if you want to know how to do your own notes like that go to the link and look at the very bottom post:

    w w w.boyinaband(DOT)c o m/forum/viewtopic(DOT)php?f=11&t=7781

  • Lol ,i have done exactly the same but it doesn't sound like that xD not even close.. xD

  • WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU COPIED AND PASTED A FILTER FREQUENCEY ENVOLOPE IN

    !!!!!!

  • @DjTornaidoe Yeah I got stumped there too...I wiggle the rotary knob but its not rght. doesn't sound good....

  • what program is he using ?

  • @WhiteEyeTree Reason

  • @WhiteEyeTree Reason 6

  • being australian, its great when dave says 'root' laughing by myself here.

  • i hadnt realized til now how much more powerful this is than fl studio

  • @JDthunder1524 DAW Didn't Do A Track, but the producer...

  • WEIRD, when was setting up the routing in thor i paused set my amount to 34, un paused the video he set his amount to 34, slightly eerie or same technical taste i dont know

  • Anyone else just here to listen to Dave talk? I sure am..

  • sounds like shit

  • how did he get that rotery thing ?

  • Awesome!!

  • HOW THE HELL DO I MAKE IT WOBBLE?!?!?!

  • @BAvlog edit automation on the rotary knob. and wiggle that shit hard

  • okay i give up, i dont understand this shit anymore xD

  • @slagemo Dont give up. Its difficult - but just spend half an hour a day listening and learning from this dude and you will eventually get there. Dave wasn't born with the knowledge but from sheer determination and hunger he's built up a wealth of knowledge.

A lot is about trial n error too.

  • 100% lost

  • Quick question... why route the Rotary to the filter frequency and have to draw more points when you could just route LFO1 to the Filter 1 Frequency and then route the LFO1 Rate to the Rotary so the automation works just like the Rate knob? I mean... that's what works for me so... yeah. Just wondering.

  • @CDriveOfficial With the rotary knob you can set up more "complicated" wobbles, if you get what i mean.

  • Comment removed

  • i cant make it wobble when i put parametric frequency 1 in to the combinator eq. what coulod have gone wrong?

  • "we will be attempting to recreate the sound of a giant robot tearing open the space time continuum, otherwise known as the bass"

    lolz

  • Oh mummy mummy pwease can I make some bwutal dubstep today PWEASE

  • "It's pretty much finished i don't think we need to do anymore work. I'M LYING.."

  • I... I think I love you.

  • am I the only one who enjoys the overly deep clicking old school-ness of his keyboard?

  • How are you getting the wobble? I have set everything up exactly how you have yours but I cannot get he wobble unless I pencil it in, I tried changing the LFo1 and all that but it is not working either?

  • @usafbradley765 Soooo, since you have already penciled it in, the changes you are making with the equalizer is just effecting what you already have penciled in right?

  • @usafbradley765 The way he did it you DO have to draw the wobbles in. If you watch the original Dubstep 7 day song, he'll show you how to map the LFO1 to the Filter 1 Frequency. Then you automate the LFO1 Rate to control the wobbles (it wobbles for you, you just automate the speed that they change). You can then route the LFO1 Rate knob to the Rotary knob like he did in this video.

  • Good tutorial, these vids are always great! Without meaning to be rude that sound could do with a lot more work imho - has the classic 'reasony' sound to it that makes a reason produced track instantly recognisable (and not in a good way...). I'd say Loki's BASS REESE tutorial is far moreon the money for this kind of sound. Nice tute tho still you go through everything very clearly, thumbs up

  • i dont get it. anytime i put an envelope over it it doesn't sound good at all lol

  • When I try to connect my snare and hi hat from the KONG to he line mixer it connects but does not go to the specified channel? can you make a video showing how you first linked everything up

  • @usafbradley765 have you set your outputs for each sample? On Kong click the down arrow (show drum and fx), then select drum output (at the bottom of the new section you just opened) and change it for the sample you want to route individually. E.g. you change it to output 3-4, hit tab to flip the rack round, then connect the outputs 3-4 to your mixer. The sample you selected will now have its own output (as opposed to the defaultmaster outs).

  • how are you getting the wobble effect on your live input? mine only sounds that way in the recordings after I draw in the peaks for rotary 1

  • @ddrguitarpunk He doesn't get the wobble for live input. Although, you CAN set up Thor's LFO 1 to target the frequency in the programmer, then set it to tempo sync and a sine wave. After that you can just fiddle with the amount in the programmer and voila. Automatic wobble.

  • SO awesome, I love these tutorials so much. I'm beginning to understand the program way more. Thanks man.

  • Sorry dude but skipping the scream connection tutorial sucked BIG TIME sice the last time we only linked 2 screams not three so it was NOT COVERED.

  • "an error has occured" god fuckin damit out of all the videos. trying to view this specific one and it just shows an error but i try other vids and they fucking work. godogodogodogodogododogdog fml

  • Ok after I added the param 1 frequency effect and play the synth doesn't show it wubbling in equalizer. Any help here sorry a stupid dumb noob. So help me god.

  • @sneakjake I'm not sure if the next videos may have a tut on this but you have to set up a rotary lane. Basically right click on the bass device in the editor window, pick "Parameter Automation" and then choose "Rotary 1" since we set Rotary 1's target to Param 1 Freq. Then, in the rotary lane, write your lines.

  • I actually named it 'Space Time Tear'.

  • can i get help with the notes he was supposed to explain later? anyone please!!!!

  • yo u lost me after 1:10!

  • What the actuall fuck when I press the Thor shit my music just sounds the same I think my mixer wires is fucked up can someone tell me what they should look like eg : a link to a pic.

  • where did you explain the notes 0o? i dunno how to let the notes sounds like yours...

  • @MzudemArap the point is to let your own musical mind make the notes, all he his doing is showing you how to make the instruments. If you copied his notes that would be pladgerism

  • @sumosumo84 yes.. I got it after some trying by myself, but he could explain how to change the wobble speed for the dubstep effect, with my MPD it was easy but without midi I wouldn't know how^^

  • "i'll just add in some notes now, which i'll explain later" YOU DIDN'T MOTHAAFUCKINN EXPLAIN LATAAAAA!

  • @CunnyFuntDannyB lmao, #dead

  • @CunnyFuntDannyB He explains it in day 6.

  • @wwwboyinabandcom right, how do you put the notes in?! i am getting really frustrated about this, COS ITS FUCKING NOT FUCKING EXPLAINING THAT PART YOU POOP. sorry bout that, now, you got it to do the wob wob type thingy and whenever i go to put notes in it doesn't do anything? HELP NIGGAAAAA!

  • @CunnyFuntDannyB use the sequencer to draw it in with the pencil tool. if you dont have a track for thor or your combinator, right click on the combinator and go to create track

  • your jokes are hilarious, dont listen to haters

  • Never stop the jokes, never.

  • Please stop the f*cking awful jokes, these vids are nearly perfect

  • which program is this ?

  • @SLIPKNOT957a the program is reason 5

  • You* said: "I'll just put some notes in which I'll explain later..."

    Where is the explanation???

I'm stuck because I dont know which is the instrument u use and the tones...

    Can somebody help me?

  • I said: "I'll just put some notes in which I'll explain later..."

    Where is the explanation???

I'm stuck because I dont know which is the instrument u use and the tones...

    Can somebody help me?

  • You have Reason SKRILLS

  • i watched this video over and over pause it at every step and i can't get it to wobble all its doing is making the sound u need to explain how to make it wobble cause that's the point isn't it?

  • @AJlurksnyc this isnt how he does it but this is how i wobble it, turn on key sync and tempo sync then in the green box at the bottom set the source to lfo 1 amount 100 and destination (dest) filter 1 frepuency, hope it helped.

  • @conceptofDub yes this worked. i dont no why the guy didnt explain this bit. was there for ages thinkin where i went wrong

  • @weepromotions Dave's normally very good and he does show how to wobble it in this but I prefer doing it the other way because the one in this is 'harder' when your new to Reason,

  • the bass is a lil overdistorted imo, but the overall tutorial is great thanks!

  • Guys, if any of you are beginners in production I do not recommend using Reason. These tutorials do help a lot with learning how to structure and layer a dubstep song, but you're better off using something like FL Studio or Ableton since with correct VSTi's, it'll save you the time in creating these sounds from scratch like this guy's doing. You'll still need to do EQing and shit, but it doesn't involve nearly as much routing to like 80 different mixers. No offense to this man at all though.

  • where can i download this programm

    please

  • @kriss123ization at the store.

  • amazing how hard and awkward it is to split frequencies in reason. compare w/ ableton: ?v=I9S6NqfWhtU

  • To those of you in question, when he "copied the envelope" and magically got the wub sound to his bass, what he did was he copied the "envelope" or "filter" that we used in day 1 to create the effect of going from a lower, "compressed" sound to full sound. Basically copy that, and draw in the lines, making the spikes radical (i.e. up then straight down then back up) to make the wub effect, instead of on day 1 where we started half way then went up over a series of notes.

  • @k4rma Thank you... you.

  • @k4rma thanks

  • With you perfectly the whole way until assigning "show programmer, click thor, select filer 1 frequency." I turned down the envelope in filter 1 and then all of the sudden it says "now listen to this envelope I copied and pasted in" what envelope? from where? Not a big deal but I fiddled with the thor for about 3 hrs to try to get that kind of sound and got nowhere. What happened? Thanks for the tips anyway.. good stuff

  • @floydhammers i do exactly what you say but when i fill in the envelope it only changes that it sounds louder but it does not make a wobble please help me

  • dude ur a genious. im gettin such phat sounds!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you dont understand shit!

  • @TheAssviolator223 lol why do u watch these tutorials? if you dont understand it, attempt to learn it, listen to what he says, change the dials for yourself instead of following his precise instructions and see what they do, its the only way you will improve.

  • @TheAssviolator223 Lol its a learning process guys! I was going through the same thing, the more you use the program and watch the tutorials over, the more you will recognize more what he is talking about.

  • @kapnkrunk14 i dont even understand how anyone can even practice. i looked up Reason 6 and its like $450 ide like to get into this stuff but goddamn i dont have that kind of cash just to start up a hobby to see if i even like it. Says the demo lets u do everything for free but u cant save or whatever lol. Is there a free version thats dumbed down for noobs i dont know about or are all these 7 day vids for people who went and paid the several $100 dollars or pounds for Reason??

  • @Thechozenone333 torrents... jks If you want to do it you got to buy it simple as :/

  • @TheAssviolator223 just drag the mouse and hit every knob and button then hit the head against the keybard

  • @TheAssviolator223 Then you don't pay attention :)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheAssviolator223 I do , you have too look and understand

  • You didn't say how you got th wobble effect on the bass.

  • @floydhammers yeah thats what I want to know because the notes are just playing out plain and not changing frequency at all

  • for some reason it doesnt work for me... I tried 5 times doing everything you did to make the noise but it doesn't change frequency at all and I dont know why cuz I copied everything you did ... at 3mins 30 you press play and its already warping the sound of the note, what am I missing? you mention copying an envelope to the track is that whats missing?

  • do more on arrangement and how you put the notes on the sequencer please

  • when i turn the shaper on it's always a different noise when pressing for example c1

what am i doing wrong? ^^

  • nice thanks man

  • DUDE , You have lost me with the notes now , What do i do with them ?

  • wow

  • 'skrills as a producer' ;D

I like that, Skrillex is one of my favourites

  • Right... this whole envelope thing.. I have no idea what is going on.. Some help would be greatly appreciated :D Thank you!!

  • "now its time to bring the pain.... hardcore from the brain, so inside my astroplane....." lawlz.

  • How do you draw in the wub?

  • @AlcestemoliereS this is done by automating the rotary 1 control on the combinator. hold alt and left click on the control. if you followed the tutorial correctly, you should have an eq freq and thor's filter 1 freq already assined (i also assigned the param 1 freq on the final eq in the patch, i just thinks it adds extra depth to the sound). in the arrange window, there should now be a new note lane for the automation. draw an envolope in this, go into edit mode, and you can draw in the wub

  • 'Quality robo-bass'?? I think 'shite' is the word you're looking for

  • I don't want to find a STIHL store. I want Dirty Dubstep.

  • Sorry but the beggining of this tutorial was great (day 1) but then u just skip stuff.... Dont show us with other words... so how r we suppost to put the notes if u dont show us ???? kind of a bad tutorial if u dont say anything

  • media.io/progress.jsp;jsessionid=825EDF18CF832AF02B7CE1B0A4F98B55

^ this is the best i could do, ran out of patience.

  • I'm having problems with creating an envelope for the frquency modulation for the initial wobble! :( HELP

  • Comment removed

  • He said skrills at the top.

    Skrills.

    Skrillex.

    >_>

  • so... many... popular culture references! you're practically like a random meme generator!

  • nice tutorial until now, BUT from where do u got that red lane(s) there? i did the same thing like u, but that thingy never appeared... pls help us.. i see that there are enough people like me ;)

  • i just took like an hour to do exactly what you did and i get no sound output... thats cool...

  • honestly dave I feel like i liked the sound before u imaged them and put screams on them and eq'd..it sounded like a chasing shadows type bass wobble..this is more megatron bass if u catch my drift and im sure u do because your British and British people founded dubstep

  • i dont get what you do after thor to get that small modulated wobble

  • Around 1:21 where are you getting the bass noise from. I followed exactly what you did until you said you added some sounds already but you'll talk about it later. And my sound just sounds like a repeat of a high noise. Help please.

  • @iTzBrayden You have to create an envelop in the combinator's track and add some notes manually just like you did for the beat

  • 1:30 lol

  • your excellent skrills as a producer? Loving it.

  • i assigned the param 1 to freq, but it fails to work how it is in the video---the way you are able to hit a note and it automatically wobbles--, i have to work it manually by assigning the rotary knob to a knnob on my keyboard and manually doing it by hand. IS there anywhere to fix this problem and allow it to automatically wobble by hitting the keys

  • @DevinLC96 I think he already clicked "edit automation" on that rotary 1 knob and previously (not in the video) recorded some automation with it. Then when he plays the track back, the automation he previously recorded is playing automatically.

  • @DevinLC96 I've got the same problem, did you find any solution ?

  • that looks very complicated o.o

  • @bayu585 No, just takes getting used to.

Fruity loops is simpler to use (imo) so its a good starting point. But dont let me stop you, Reason is great too.

  • Thanks for this but god damn your sooo white

  • 3:05 sounds like pokemon

  • this guy is funny as fuck

  • please help! how do i copy paste the envelope? my sound is terrible atm.

  • hey what program is that your using???

  • this is bullshit, i dont get any wobble when i follow exactly. fook this

  • Ya the programmer didnt change my eq at all I think i missed a step lol

  • lol ur link is broken kinda, shows only for a millisecond at 10:54

  • bestpart of this video is the start - HI

  • How can I go further in the tutorial without writing in the bass notes?

  • How do we do the notes?!?!?! This is meant to be for beginners!!

  • @GenFabz hit edit mode, you can put them in by mouse or midi board after that. awesome tutorial man, keep it up! learned so much more in these videos than anywhere else.

  • who else couldent click the next part to save there lives :)

  • yo through the whole project not once did you explain how to write in the bass notes... it would help people who are new to this whole thing...

  • those fuckin notes.. lol

  • so when you start splitting the bass... my sound goes out... i checked and double checked and i still cant hear it...

    any tips?

  • Comment removed

  • How the Hell do you make what you call an 'Envelope! Im stuck!! :S

  • @Franticcontent620 right click on the knob or slider you want to edit and select edit automation. tadaa! envelope slot made!

  • @Franticcontent620 just lick it and then post it.

  • When i press show programmer on the combinator is doesn't show that thor is there. Hep?

  • i only hear my bass from my left speaker.. i checked everything and can't find the problem. anyone?

  • @JonaaSugar check ur pan

  • you just butchered this. Unless your going to be a sound engineer you dont need all of this information

  • thank you thank you! that was the simplest frequency splitting i've ever seen, that freakin' blew my mind! every other method i've seen is overly complicated and a pain in the arse. love your vids, man.

  • How do you make that envelope????

  • Ok, so I just got Reason 5 a few days ago and I've got everything running pretty smooth except for a couple little settings that piss me off to no end. First of all, when I have multiple note lanes in a track, I can't figure out how to name them. Second, whenever I use "Copy pattern to track" from Redrum, Dr. Rex, etc., it will always put the pattern in a new track, not the one for the combinator that the device is inside of. Can someone tell me if there are ways to change these settings??

  • Why, oh why, do I laugh at all of your bad jokes?

  • 3:32 i dont get what u meant my copy and pasted a envelope. help please

  • hey I have a question..how can I make that effect of bass? I mean..i make this bass and it sound simply and continuous.. u have an automation at freq?

  • I gotta be honest, i was hoping you would show us how to do that envelope thing you said you copied and pasted in. all i have is a boring sound that doesnt wobble or anything

  • When I make the 3 Oscs I end up with a machine-gunny sound as opposed to the sound you get =\

  • @totalytal Nevermind, figured it out :P

  • LFO1 Filter & Filter 1 Freq it gives us the effect of wooble bass.

    Too much unsaid in tuturial.

  • @DNBucek he showed us a different way of doing it... using the filter ;)

  • u lost me at the stereo imager bit :(

  • What defines "brutal dubstep", mentioned around 2:09? I definately had a plan for (my interpretation of) brutal dubstep, with brutal death metal vocals and double bass over super filthy bass. When I have lots of practice making normal dubstep, of course.

  • "wow thats pretty much finished I don't think we need to do any more work."

    I was like.. really?

"I'm lieing" and that made me rofl

  • The way you can assign an automation envelope to more than one knob is nifty. Does anyone know if you can do that in Logic (short of remaking the envelope)?

  • you talking about? wham fucking created dubstep!

  • Dave you are my hero

  • "Astro plane"... hahaha

  • You didn't talk bout the notes like you said you would...

    you broke my heart...

    we're not friends anymore...

See you later for day 2 pt 2!!!

  • @TreeKixx I meant later in the series - Should be day 6, along with arrangement :)

  • @wwwboyinabandcom Just out of curiosity, why wait so long to talk about the notes?

  • @wwwboyinabandcom I love how you always call your files. Great extra's :) I really enjoy your tutorials, keep the good work up

  • @TreeKixx Damn im stuck, i dont know how you put those bass notes in XD...
