Wait are you saying Lance Rusell? Really? Really??? The same guy who in this match said "wow they wont quick here. You gotta shoot em to beat em" Even knowing that one of them has to be pinned to loose and will be pinned. Not a legend. Just an annoncer
You have to say Lance Russell's name in the same sentence with Gordon Solie and Jim Ross, when you are talking about the absolute best voices in wrestling.
Curt was one of the best and Jerry Lawler had the best fists in wrestling.
Dundee was a great worker, equally good as a heel or face.
They should have made henning a babyface. The AWA went through such hard times that they needed a great peoples champ and henning could have filled that role.
He had been a face for a long time and drew money but Verne seemed destined to self destruct his promotion.
everyone talks about jim ross. don't get me wrong he's a heck of an announcer. but they forget about lance russell who was on the scene well before gym. He is the howard cosell of ring announcer.
The AWA should have let Curt keep the strap and built the promotion around him. He was such an incredible superstar that he could have been the Ric Flair of the AWA.
I think verne could have got dr death steve williams for a good price to make a run with him, the nwa didnt use him much and japan just was a pay check at the time. you also gotta look at eddie gilbert and kerry von erich
Unfortunately, Verne never saw Hennig as a hot commodity. In fact, Verne rarely, if ever, pushed younger more athletic guys as champions. He mainly pushed old guys like Bockwinkle, Bruser and even Otto Wanz as world champions.
Also, let's not forget that Bockwinkle pushe for Hulk Hogan to be AWA champion, but Gagne was too stuck in his ways to see that Hogan was nothing more than an attraction than a main eventer.
Lance Russell, the Memphis play-by-play man, used to call the arena matches by himself. He was also often the ring anouncer and time keeper on the SAME shows. Lance was awasome...
Lance was the man. His commentary was effective yet simple. I wish he could be inducted into the Hall of Fame cause the wrestling world today needs to know about this legendary announcer.
True regarding Lance. Jerry Jarrett ran Lance off after learning about a possible takeover scheme involving Lance and Lawler. He later forgave Lawler but not Lance......I never could see the logic of that decision. Lance was great and he should receive credit for helping make Memphis wrestling a huge success. It was never the same w/o Lance.

@rushman21901 Actually, what Lance said was, "Boy they won't call it quits. These guys, you gotta shoot em to end it." 1:37-1:43
