I really do like this, however I like Karen's better, this seems heavy in places and does not flow well, still well done.. By the way being Canadian it ROCKS any way!!!!!
@ssur55 I remember that well. I was in college, the FM station deejay was playing every song and trying to guess who was singing what. It was all wishful thinking. As if the Beatles could have gotten together and recorded an album without the world knowing about it.
hey everyone - the lead voice here sounds UNLIKE any of the beatles boys. are you thinking of the arrangement as your beatles reference...? i hope so - i suggest you check out the catalogue from Jon and Vangelis - that could be a legitimate mistake/ comparison.
A lot of people thought that they sounded like the Beatles where the reality is they sounded more like Badfinger however, they wrote great songs, did beautiful arrangements, were master musicians and all had terrific voices.
I Wish these guys would make music again, they were tremendous!
the mellotron flutes are similar to that beatles song and its got similar vibes but i'd never mistake it.... anyway.. been looking for this and thankfully found this after listening to the carpenters disappointing version.. almost thought i'd dreamt it was good!
Always loved this album I bought it the same week it was released (NO I didn't think it was The Beatles) but it IS damn good. I was very shocked when The Carpenters covered this song and even had a hit with it.....
Klaatu is one of Canada's greatest bands...and very much under-rated. In my opinion they are to be esteemed among the great Canadian artists of all time…my list would include Rush, Klaatu, Max Webster, Harmonium, Ian Thomas, The Guess Who, The Musical Box, The Band, Blue Rodeo, Chilliwack, Grapes of Wrath, Uzeb, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Burton Cummings, Joni Mitchell, BTO, April Wine, Bob Ezrin, Glenn Gould, Daniel Lanois, Sarah McLachlan, Gino Vannelli...
…not to mention many other bands and artists whose music I have enjoyed: Age of Electric, Barenaked Ladies, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, Crash Test Dummies, Econoline Crush, FM, Mahogany Rush, Our Lady Peace, Payolas, Rose Chronicles, Delerium, Saga, Spirit of the West, The Stampeders, Streetheart, The Tea Party, Triumph, Trooper, Wide Mouth Mason, Zubot and Dawson, Zuckerbaby, Bryan Adams, Paul Anka, Rik Emmett, Stephen Fearing
I loved this song! Bought the vinyl back in 1976 as a 12-year-old. There was tremendous hype that Klaatu might be the Beatles, secretly reunited. They weren't, but they were good nonetheless. Thanks for the memories!
When I came across this record in my local shop, I had no idea who Klaatu was. I picked it up regardless, and I'm glad I did. Really memorable and enjoyable music, thanks for the upload.
I worked in FM radio when this came out. I recall saying on air that it was reminiscent of the Beatles because of this song in particular. I'm not going to claim any credit for the idea, and I doubt it started from the very small power station I was broadcasting from. But you have to admit it's got that 'Uncle Albert' kind of sound and feel to it - with extra synthesizers of course.
While ago Dad showed me his recs, he had this, told me to try and trick my girl saying this was The Beatles (She's a HUGE Beatle fan) because of this song exactly. I know what you mean bud. Didn't try yet though, hahxD.
There is another video on YouTube that describes the Klaatu / Beatles rumors, and one of them claims that this album was recorded in 1966 - somewhere between 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'. But just by listening to the synthesizers simulating horn and string sounds on this song I highly doubt that the technology even existed back in 1966.
I got to see Klaatu live back in 1981. They did a good job of this song and a couple others off this album.
@nmtoc Well, the first Moog Modular system was manufactured in 1964 and sold and used in a record in 1967 so its not entirely impossible and this sounds very Moogish.
Epic song from this fantastic album..One of my favourite albums of the '70s: 3:47EST. This album cut is much better than the 45 rpm version. Sit back and listen to 7 minutes of pure indulgence.
thx for the post. klaatu is klaatu, not the beatles, rock on

In 1977, there was a rumor going around that this was the Beatles under a different name. It wasn't, but we sure wished it was.

In the early 70's , many thought this was The Beatles, including DJ's thinking this was the Beatles alias.
Especially with the tune Sub Rosa Subway.
