im getting jaw surgery next summer, they are fixing my underbite, widening my top jaw and pushing it forward., im not usre if you had the same surgery, i was just wondering, are you happy with your surgery and how painfull is it?

Hi there:) I'm 22 and just had this done 8 days ago, i never thought to look on youtube for people going through the same thing!!

I'm finding talking really frustrating; I can do it, but I don't sound like myself cause of the splint and wires!! People have a hard time understanding me and i'm worried since i start classes in a week:( Does speaking continue to improve??

Also, does getting your splint off hurt? I didn't have to do braces but have arch bars/splint instead...

Speaking improves everyday, though you may not want to talk... talking helps you heal and the splint doesn't hurt coming out at all

I'm getting orthognathic surgery on the 23rd, so that's 16 days from now (Just my lower jaw, I've got an overbite). I'm getting scared now, and I just want to get it over with!! Your videos reassure me that I'll be able to enjoy my summer afterwards, and if I'm not still on narcotics after 2 weeks, I'll take driver's ed.

What is it like going under, and then waking up during the actual surgery?

Going under is like a snap of the fingers. You don't wake up during the actual surgery. Let me assure you that you do not wake up during surgery. I woke up 5hrs after the operation

Gosh you wouldn't even be able to imagine that you were the same person from the first video! Where were you at for your surgery? This winter I'm having a top bottom jaw surgery at the mayo clinic in rochester ( i only live like two hours away, minnesotas cool like that)

after your surgery, how long did you have to wear the headgear and were you able to take it off to take a shower and brush your teeth?

Hi, I also had top and bottom jaw surgey. I'm on day ten of recovery. I'm still a bit swollen. I can't wait to see my face back to normal! Sometimes I feel like the swelling wont go away completely. I'm just being paranoid right?

Hey! These are really interesting videos. I have many questions. I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but was your surgery covered by insurance? If so, was it hard for approval? Also, how did you research your surgeon? Sorry for so many questions. I was told years ago that I would need this. I've been avoiding it but now it's too obvious and affecting speech and chewing. If you could send me a note, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Its a battle. You need to explain that this surgery is medical and not cosmetic. I got 80% coverage on surgery and hospital, but not help with braces. I got lucky with my surgeon. A friend of the family makes teeth implants next door to his office. Just as youd want the best artist to paint a portrait, you want the best doctor you can find. I had minimal swelling and very light bruising, he was amazing. If you have a lisp, it should disappear and you will have no idea how you were eating before.
