i'll never forget the face of an elderly man (whom i didn't know ) looking over the beautiful views of the River Clyde . As i approached him ( I'm sure he had tears in his eyes ) he turned and said to me " look what they've done to us " . This was a reference to the vacant shipyards of Greenock which for years was a great ship building community . That was about 27 years ago and I can still see that man's pain to this day . :(

You also assume that Scotland will have ALL the oil fields, which is not the case. Oh you could be "independent" alright but you'd have a standard of living far below England's after 'your' oil runs out in ~2020 and you banks fail... Be glad you have such a nice place within the UK, a better place that England itself has.

@william19882007 Lets clarify something here. 2 wells discoved north of Aberdeen would keep Scotland going for over 100 years. Airdrie savings bank was the only UK bank that didnt owe a single penny to any other bank. 90% of Scottish £ goes to London,without it the rest of the UK would be paying higher taxes. We make millions in tax from whiskey exports alone. If Scotland Wales and Ireland went totally independant England would be ruined. The national debt belongs downing st not the rest of us.

@kjw7000 Ok, fair points. I'm sure there are a couple oil fields that could hypothetically meet Scotland's demands for some decades, but I doubt they would be able to generate current levels. Yes but the main banks had to be bailed out by Westminster, something Scotland wouldn't not have been able to do. Airdrie is a small savings bank, that is not indicative of the rest of the UK, or Scotland for that matter. Probably not the best ammo in an argument. Basing an economy off... next comment..

@kjw7000 Basing an economy off whiskey is a mistake waiting to happen. What if demand goes to shit? What if some one else makes it better and cheaper, which is unlikely, but worth noting. Unfortunately the debt belongs to the WHOLE UK, not just certain people in it. A hypothetical independent Scotland would be burdened with 6% of it, which is enough in interest payments to wipe out any other slight momentary advantage Scotland may have. When a country succeeds it gets its share of debt.
