  • great video, i have same problem with my 2000 A6, front passenger window, i will try to do it myself next week, what was the name of the parts called or name that needed to be replace??

  • @lawrence001973 -- just tell your audi dealer parts department that you need the plastic tab on the power window lift mechanism for the front window. The OEM parts break all the time on this year and they usually have them in stock. The replacement part is of a better quality than the original.

  • nice movie, from Poland ! ;)

  • the most difficult thing is to find the part i am a distributor for European part and i have the original one. if you need them let me know ,thank(323)807-6347 Gabriel

  • okay i give it a go and fix the passenger window i felt like a million dollar man doing it! lol ... now i wanna get under the driver windows controllers but while im pressing the little thing to lift up the buttons nothing happens and i dont wanna force it out ,im talking about where the controllers for all the windows and lock windows is ... i know theres a short in there somwhere i wanna see it thanks!

  • awesome video! im having a similar problem with my 2003 a6 the door behin the driver is having trouble getting all the way up its like the mottor is pushing but somthing is stoping it ..

  • @111111555555555514

Back window is different. Could be just out of alignment due to some loose components. The panel comes of similar to the front but it the lift mechanism is broken the whole assembly needs to be replaced. a little over a $100 at some places or check car-part.com for a used one.

  • If this is all stuff you figured out on your own I hope your brain makes you a lot of money!

  • Excellent intuitive video good on ya

  • Thanks for the video!, i have the same exact problem, on both windows. Not sure if audi dealer will sell me the part.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just saved myself a whole wad of cash repairing my own power window (in my case it was the steel drive cable that had failed) and I would not have had a clue how to go about doing it without your video to guide me. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this with us.

    THANK YOU again,

    Ian

  • Absolutely amazing video; great close ups. Looks like a real professional production.

  • I am very gald you poseted this video, very helpful. i just changed the clips on my 02 A6 3.0 but it didnt fix the problem. i took it all apart, took the window out ran just teh clips up and down works fine. I put the window in and its slow and stops. How do I test the motor to see if thats what i need. or did i test it and need a new one with the way its acting...

  • Spot on repair for a 2001 Allroad as well. The retainer clips ran me $20 and I had bought a motor online for $289. I'll return the motor and call it repaired. The job took me less than 2 hours from start to finish and had I been able to remove the clip for the power to the door lock actuator this would have been 45 minutes tops. EXCELLENT tutorial, Thank you a million times over for saving me my entire Saturday!

  • Do you have to press to buy the individual parts, because my local garage (non audi dealer but specialization in audis) says that he tried before and the dealerships only want to sell him the complete actuator for well over 100 bucks.

  • @medowbrookgoer39

No problem with my dealer. They knew exactly what i was talking about when i walked in and had several of the parts available in inventory. You might try calling an Audi Dealer elswhere in your area and see if they will ship it. also - This is the procedure for the A6 front doors. the A4 and the rear door of the A6 require a whole lift assembly. maybe your mechanic had that experience with something other than an A6. Good luck.

  • Driver side is the same. good luck.

  • Thanks for this video... big help to me. I'm doing driver's side next. Anything different I should be aware of? 2001 A6 2.7T

  • where can i get the clamp at?

  • @562salvador

you need to get it from an audi dealer.

  • @562salvador

I stock clips for all Audi and VW (and BMW, Saab, Volvo, Focus, Cayenne, Land Rover, Jaguar): info (at) regultorfix (dot) com

  • @vtraudt uuups:

    info (at) regulatorfix (dot) com

  • Just changed the window regulator clips on my A6 quattro. It went very smoothly thanks to this video!! It was about a 2 hour job and the 2 clips only cost me $13 from the Audi dealer. With that said, the cross breeze feels very good now!

Thanks so much for posting this!!

  • Mine is a 1998 A4 Quattro. Can I use the same part (4B0-837-463-B) for the front passenger window even if the internal mechanism is different from an A6?

  • good video im having that issue as we speak on my audi a4 right rear windown

  • @RudelyPolite - be careful on the A4. the set up on the internal mechanism is not the same as the A6 front window. I think the door comes off the same but you probably have one of two problems. Either the lift assy is actually broken or it is loose and the window just gets stuck because it is off center. The rear A6 assy and A4 assy may run as much as $150-$200. but its easy enough to take the door panel off to assess the situation.

  • just watch the video. you probably have a broken lift clip.

  • I drive a 2000 audi a6 and my front passenger window seems a bit stuck. It goes down fine but struggles to go up past halfway unless i pull it up using my hand. Can anyone advise as to what could be wrong please?

  • those are exactly they symptoms that would indicate that the retaining clip is broken. good luck.

  • my motor and clips are good my problem is that the wire snapped... any videos on how to replace the wire? I tried but it worked once the the wire got tangled

  • Hi, is it the same with audi a6 2006 rear door? if not , could you please advise where can i find such good explanation like yours about my car?

  • @mamarakateporetu i don't know about the 2006 model but on the 2000, and other years, the rear door is different. on the rear door, you have to get the whole actuator assembly. i've seen it on Rockauto.com for about $100 some time ago. it is not much different from an assembly / disassembly perspective but the "part" is much more expensive if you have to replace it.

  • This is great. Turns out my driver side window was having the same problem. Lovely step-by-step instructions! Only bummer is that the little plastic parts now cost $15 a piece.

  • Thank's for this! I just got done with a successful repair of the exact same issue.

  • 2000 A6

  • @mlr1844 Hi i drive a 2000 audi a6 avant...and i have a similar problem, and i would like to ask you something...My front passanger window starts to go up but half way up it comes back...It also goes up very slowly...It goes down normaly...What do you think is the problem...Is the problem the same as in this video or is it something more serious...

    Thank you in advance.

  • I have a B6 A4 (2002) both my rear windows do not work, they do roll down using the switch but I cant roll them up using it. Any ideas on the B6 A4? Thanks!!!!

  • @JeansBiturboA6

The A4's have a different system on both the front and rear. The rear is similar to the A6. If the mechanism won't go up, it is probably either off balance (not even) and jammed up or the lift assembly is otherwise damaged. If the assembly is damaged you will need to replace the whole assembly. not too difficult but more expensive for the part - about $120 or so in the US.

  • @JeansBiturboA6

    regulator clip broken maybe.

Since the clips are not available (Audi, VW, BMW), I have located a manufacturer in Germany and stock them now here.

  • Great video. I'm hoping that it is the same proceedure when working with an Audi TT.

I'm having problems with the motor. It dosn'n move any more, but it make a clicking sound when the door is open and when trying to lower and raise the window.

  • @Stoffs

I think the TT is different though you get at the motor pretty much the same way. Once you take the door panel off, you should be able to diagnose what the real problem is.

  • wow that's easy access to door guts.

  • Thank you so much for the video! My kids had some window stickers and I dropped the window from the front drivers seat and then the next thing I know the window was grinding and got stuck. I initially only saw 2 screws in the door, watching your video has helped! THANKS A TON! Seattle WA

  • Great video, we have a 2004 A4, passenger window "grinds" then gets stuck at bootom, where it now is hung up. Any ideas? Will the A4 come apart like your A6?

    Thanks!

  • @rdftrd1

The procedure is for the front door of the A6. The rear doors on the A6 and all the doors on the A4 have a componant system that includes the frame. Taking the door panel off and other componants are similar but if the tracks are broken, you have to replace the whole window lift regulator assy. Runs around $85-$120 USD depending on where you get it.

  • @rdftrd1

window may just be out of alignment due to loose bolts. if it were mine i would take off the panel to see if anything is broken or just out of alignment and loose. If loose, just do the obvious realignment and tighten up the fasteners. good luck

  • @rdftrd1 Thanks for your helpful insight!

  • Nice! Thanks a lot for this helpful video!

  • Hi great video, this will save a lot of people a lot of money, because dealers always try to sell u a complete mechanism, unless you tell them 20 times that you only want a pair of pink sliders. Did the trick at my 3 door A3 too, even without removing the complete frame. Same procedure as for the A6 in the video.

  • Thank you, awesome video and instructions. You saved me a lot of money and time. It took me an hour. Thank you again.

  • Do you have the part number of the clip?

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!! What an OUTSTANDING video/tutorial and you saved me $550 at the dealer.

  • Great video and lots of help. It should be noted that it is easier if the window is not lowered all the way down before removing. This leaves a little slack in the cable between the clip and pulley.

The drivers side is more complicated due to the extra window and door controls on that door.

Window clips from local Audi dealer were $6.60 each. Be sure to have VIN when calling the parts department. In 1998, there were two different style of clips depending on the month of manufacture.

  • Thanks, very helpful and exactly what I hope is the problem with my '03 Audi A6 rear door. Anyone know how to tell if the problem is these clips vs the entire window regulator?

  • Very useful video. I'm hoping this is the problem I have with my '03 Audi A6 but curious if anyone knows how to tell if it's these plastic clips that have gone bad +/or if it's the entire window regulator?

  • super je to sve ALI !!

ako covjek koristi silikon sprej na okvir prozora i podmaze klizace .. ovaj problem se nikada nebih ni desio ;-)

sprej koji sam ja koristio je: CRN 88 SILICONE

  • Great Video but I had a problem. I could not get the new pink clips on because the wire barrel Bead ???? was too close to the white pulley and I could not get enough slack to insert the barrel into the new clip. How can I create enough slack or move the bead barrel away from the white pulley to install the pink clips? Thanks for your help! Scott

  • Just successfully finished this job on my 98 A6. Your detailed and well narrated video far surpass the Audi repair manual CD instructions. The new lift clips were $8 each versus the Audi dealer repair estimate of $285. Took me approx 3 hours.

Thanks for posting this. Good job.

  • is there maybe a website online where i could buy the little blue pieces that i need. audi dealership is really far from my house

  • $6.18 for a piece of plastic molding? Though if it were a Mazda, it would probably be twice that.

  • thank you for help

  • ...big "thanks"!

Very nice of you to share your experience. This would cost may be a few hundreds.

    Thank you, one more time.

  • Hey Thanks my A-4 front passenger side was different, it has a inside sheet metal so the window unit sides out of the top. The video was helpful thank you.

  • Great instructional video! Well done. I have this problem with my driver side window. It goes down, then on it's way up it gets stuck and then the pinch protection pulls it back down. I have to pull the window towards the back of the car while rolling it up. I am assuming it's not the motor. It must be the clip like your passenger side. I am also assuming the driver side is the same as the passenger side with just a few more electrical connections. Thank you.

  • Exactly. I had to do the driver side in October - took me 30 minutes end-to-end. Good Luck.

  • Very good instructional video! I have a similar problem as 350zdemon. My passenger window on 1999 Audi A6 went down automatically as I was driving and when I attempted to roll it back up it tried but stopped and went back down. I tried a couple more times and I got the window to go up, but a few seconds later it went back down on its own. Do you think its the motor or the clips? Thanks!

  • i have a ? my window on a 1998 a6 passanger goes up but then slides down by itself could it be the motor or the plastic part

  • most likely the plastic part. if the plastic part is not broken, the motor would be unlikely to reverse since it does not "free-wheel" easily - or perhaps at all.

  • Thank You! You help me a lot.

  • thanks, i am having problem with rear window :(

  • Rear window is different. make sure the window is on the track and not binding - that can cause the motor to shut down and appear broken. If you have an actual "lifter" problem, you have to replace the main lifter bracket. $140+ part vs a $6 plastic part. I had the same problem and i just needed to re-track the window.

  • @mlr1844 I think Im having the same issue you did. My rear window goes about half way up, but the window binds and goes back down, if I pull it forwards, it goes up just fine. So I just need to re-track the window then? Thanks,

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

  • Thank you, very useful, i did my window a few month back and used this to aid me, replace the entire mechanism, which required the rivets from audi to be drilled out and replaced with bolts and nuts hope this can help the rest of you guys as well. Thanks again A1

  • All I can say is thank you! This video saved me a bundle. Well done!

  • I followed the procedure and found the gripper in my Audi power window is broken. But I could not get the gripper alone either from Auto stores or from Audi. They want to sell the whole regulator costing $190.00. Where can I get the gripper alone.

    Thanks

    Ananth

  • Thanks for the Video!!!! it helped me do it my self.. Saved me bout 200 bucks :)

  • My window motor is fine it will start to turn and stops. I was told it is a entire window regulator. does anyone know if it is just the green clips ?? how do you know if the clips are bad ???

  • I wonder if this will help me with a 2000 VW Cabrio window problem.

  • I'm pretty sure they are all similar. Check with guiness810. He's got lots of experience.

  • You DO NOT have to remove the carrier...if you have the right tools and know how, this job is 15 min. per side to replace the window clips....one of the biggest gravy jobs in the dealership, trust me, I have done hundreds. This is a harry homeowner version with all the un-needed steps. Audi has gone through 4 revisions of these clips...Greg-Master Audi technician

  • Thanks Greg - I wish you had a posting on how to do it 8 months ago. In any event - it was fun making the video and it seemed to have helped a few folks. Any tips on how to change the fresh air blower that comes on at cold start up? I need to swap that out too.

    Signed - Harry Homeowner

  • no problem, if you need any info, just shoot me a message. The secondary air pump I assume is what you are referring to. What is wrong with the pump, noisey, not coming on at all...there is a big 40 amp fuse that powers this pump...there are a couple reasons why this fuse will blow if it doesnt come on at all, or if it is noisey, I can explain reasons for that as well....just message me with your symptoms

  • Thanks

The pump does not work. For a while it was really loud on start-up for a minute or so. Then it stopped working and I got a code indicating it was bad. I have a Bentley repair manual which is pretty detailed but it seems from your original comment that some procedures have been updated so I wonder if there is any trick to replacing it or if it even needs to be replaced.

Also, the turbos are leaking a bit of oil can they be repaired? Any aftermarket units that are better?

  • sent you a message

  • Can you shoot a video how to fix the green part without removing rhw whole carrier. Also Where to get the gripper (Green parts holding the wire

    arkrish68

  • If your Audi dealership won't sell you just the clips, they are trying to rip you off. Just tell them you want the "pink" Clips. Audi started with Green ones...then they kept breaking, then they upgraded them to blue ones, they kept breaking, then audi changed to orange clips, they kept breaking, and finally, lol, the PINK ones have metal inserts in them to stop them from breaking.

  • When I have time, I will try and make a video of how to change the clips without the regulator removal and you can do these in 15 min. per regulator. All you need is a T25 torx bit and a ratcheting bit holder from sears. I am soooo busy with work and family stuff that right now I am not sure when I will get to making one, as I am currently a Volvo technician at a dealership, I left Audi because Volvo are much easier to make money on and fix, lol.

  • Great Video. I followed it and fixed the same problem on my 98 A6 Quatro. I purchased the parts for $6.66 each at my local dealer. They were in stock.

The part number is 4B0-837-463-B. It is called a "Carrier". There were two carriers on my window, and I had to replace both of them.

Tip: If you remove the door panel and see broken pieces of green plastic at the bottom of the door, you have this problem. You can stop your work there and purchase the replacements before continuing.

  • hi great video,

but can u change the clip without taking the window out? ive heard that u can but no one really tells u how.

  • it would be very difficult since the clip has to be inserted into the track behind the window. You'd have to figure a way to "bend" the window out. since the whole procedure can be done in less than an hour, i wouldn't think it would be worth an alternate procedure.

  • is the set up close to the same for the rear passenger window i have an 03 s4

    great video

  • its pretty similar - all the window connection tabs are the same; the difference would be minor configuration differences in taking the window out.

  • Hi

    Thanks for your video!

Where can I buy this (blue or red) piece on the net?

    thank you

    (From Canada)

  • Any VW Audi specialist should be able to supply. Web, or local dealership.

  • Great video! I think I've got the same problem on my 2.7t, parts have been ordered and are on route, I'll let you know how I get on.

  • You are my Hero! It was exactly as you had demonstrated! Took longer to drive to the dealer for the parts than the repair took.

By the way the dealer wanted $250.00 for the fix ($12.00 parts)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  • how can i check to see if the window motor is not good?

  • i think the easiest way is to pull the motor off the frame (3 bolts) then hit the up/down power switch. if it runs the the motor is probably good and the plastic clip is whats hanging things up.
