  • @SolidGoldCEO Don't present your opinion as fact. Bercause I can find plenty of people, myself included. who'll argue that Rob Newman is the greatest stand up of all time, and History of Oil as the greatest stand up performance of all time.

  • "You that knob whose humour never stood up on its own and needed a funnier sidekick next to him at all times or he'd cry for his mummy live onTV? That's you, that is."

A good History Today sketch though!

    "I didn't mean i know them"

"Well thats what you said!" XD

  • This sketch almost got me expelled from School when it was originally on TV, we laughed so hard I actually cried in class!

  • I actually cried just now watching this. I thought it wouldn't have stood the test of time, but it seems it has.

  • I have the same memories! I swear I have scarred gums from biting them so hard trying not to laugh and avoid getting a detention.

  • You watched this in school? LOL

  • lol if only. We laughed just discussing it at school the next day!

That must have been at least 15 years ago, I can't believe it's still so funny!

  • My friend Greg and I loved these guys so much we paid homage by performing our own version infront of our classmates and teacher. Amazing shit.

  • They wrote their own lines and I think You can see this in the sketches...Presumably they stayed together because one the contracts they had to fullfil...I think the rift is mentioned on Analysis on History Today...

  • Hello Stimpy404, how are You doing Man...? Yeah. To answer your question, as far as I can understand both of the guys wanted first billing, they wanted their names first, Newman and Biddiel, Biddiel and Newman, Rob Newman wanted his name first because he believed he was the intellectual comedian behind the pair. He was the driving force, As the rift deepend between the 2 this sketch became more and more cruel until they were just ripping the piss out of each other. They wrote their own lines..

  • this is the best!!!!! i looked this up on youtube coz my dad told me about it.

"you know men who put fruit up eachothers bottoms?"

y did they do this if they hated each other?

    lol

  • Absolutely hilarious! ...can't they get back together to make a Christmas special or something?

  • They hate each other-I bet they really found this cathartic....especially on stage!

  • You see that little group of girls? That's your gang!

  • You know, like, a dead slug, thats like, all dried out and shrivelled and like one centimetre long? That's your dick that is.

  • For all you arseholes that don't like Rob Newman. He came up with this!! ROB NEWMAN IS GOD! lol

  • the best of the sketches by far, imo :)

  • Ah, the best one they ever did. "You know men who put fruit up each other's bottoms?"

  • Yes, thats your mum elevendayempire that is.

  • If David Baddiel was that slim these days, he'd be a bit easier for Frank Skinner to carry....

  • Brilliant.

  • @Pamultimate Bit cerebral for you?

  • haha suffering from scruffula.

  • Hahahaha...that's great, mate.

  • Ha - me and Trussy: spot on mate.

  • That's My Life As A Prostitute by YOUR MUM.

    lmaoooo! Classic!

  • See that pile of cack over there? That's your favourite dinner that is!!

  • I love this show so much! I was only like 8 when these were on tv, my dad taped it and I would watch it every time I was of sick to cheer me up. They should really release a proper DVD boxset one day!

  • ha ha I loved these when they were out. Classic spit your drink when laughing sketch lol.

  • Nothing on TV today is as funny as this was!

  • Taking the essential humour always inherent in 'your mum' lines and jokes and taking it to a whole new level!

  • I do not think we'll see comedy that funny again..

  • Where has comedy gone? This is priceless!!

  • Rob Newman is my brother's godfather!

  • Liar.

  • What happened to Rob Newman?

  • He's a hippie now. Shows powered by bicycle generator and that. Do a search for History Of Oil if you'd like to see.

Better than David Baddiel, at any rate.

  • @KiruBanzai He's also a writer (not a bad one) and a patron of a charity that fights against the stigma of mental health amongst men.

  • You see that sheep with 2 heads. Thats your sister that is

  • This is from the second series of The Mary Whitehouse Experience. FYI. Your Mum.

  • Thanks!

  • Nah, this is from Newman and Baddiel in Pieces, episode 1. So it isn't the first History Today (which was from The Mary Whitehouse Experience)

  • You're right, I think there was only one TV series of Mary Whitehouse.

  • It's seems too easy really, but it works cos I always laugh, perfect

  • Very funny indeed. How they did it without laughing I will never know.

  • They used to crack up all the time. They'd often manage to cover it up, but once or twice you can see them struggling to keep a straight face.

  • I don't blame them. Such a pity they split up. This had me falling on the floor - it was so reminiscent of playground silliness. I have not found much to laugh at lately, except for Catherine Tate.

  • See that History Today?

    I am aware of it.

That's funny, that is. That is like bloody hilarious.

  • why isn't the Mary Whitehouse Experience on dvd yet!? I so want Hugh Dennis to say milky milky on that mock the week!

  • "You know men, who put fruit up each others bottoms..." "Yes" "oh you do"??? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • I used to love the Mary Whitehouse Experience, history today was wicked! :D :D :D

  • Great sketch! But the first History Today was actually a discussion on 'The Austerity Years 1939-1945'

  • DAILY TELEGRAPH SUX HAHAH

  • As funny now as it was then :-)

  • There was actually an earlier sketch, on a cassette that came free with the Mary Whitehouse Live video released between TV series 1 and TV series 2. I think this was the first, and it sounds improvised, as if they were just making up the characters there and then. I recommend finding this tape (especially if you like things like Derek & Clive)!

  • Thanks for the information! I'll look for that one!

  • I thought this was forever lost with the demise of VHS.

the wit and humour has yet to be beaten in my opinion.

    absolutely fabulous!

  • History Today is possibly one of the funniest thing Ever. My mate & I still quote it today

  • That? Is hilarity incarnate.

  • "Your best work, I feel." LOL

  • absolutley belting mate

  • Aaaah I used to love that show, pity Rob and David went their seperate ways!

  • classic.. thanks so much for posting this.. do u have any more?
